BOSS Master List Manager

BOSS Master List Manager v2.0 Released
  • Mods inserted into the BOSS Master List are placed after any special code lines (such as Bash Tags) - previous versions did not take these special lines into account (thanks to Psymon for spotting this).
  • If a BOSS log file exists, BMLM will use it to append any Unkown mods to your Undefined ESPs Load Order Definitions. The Load After entries will be blank, so the entries will be ignored until you specify the Load After ESP/ESM. It will not add any entries already defined
  • When Overrides mods were deleted, comment lines that followed were erroneously removed along with other special code lines - this has been corrected
  • If you have updated your configuration and you run the BMLM, the message about latest version will *not* be displayed (unless you have saved the document before running the BMLM)
  • In addition to suppressing the message, you are now asked if you want to save the document containing your configuration after the master list has been updated
I do not anticipate any further updates (unless problems need to be fixed or someone comes up with a really good idea :))

Thanks I will test in the coming days.

The only idea that sprang to mind was the idea of having entries that will add bash tags.

Surazal - A million thanks for creating this mod. I use and update BOSS, and would love to see this utility being made "mandatory" alongside BOSS usage!

Mmmm - now that is a thought.

Thanks for the kind words - perhaps the BOSS guys need to have a chat with Bill Gates and bundle Word 2007 :)

BOSS Master List Manager v2.1 Released
  • You can now define your own special code lines such as a Bashed Patch suggestion (thanks to Psymon for the idea)
  • You can now specify the Load After ESP/ESM for your Override definitions without having to define it in your Undefined Load Order Definitions
  • Any BOSS defined special codes associated with your Override definitions will be preserved and moved to the new position along with the ESP/ESM being overridden
  • You can replace BOSS's special code lines (eg Bashed Patch suggestion) with your own definition by including the lines in your Override table
  • Comment lines that are associated with an ESP/ESM in the master list are now taken into account (eg "\% {{BASH:Sound}}")
  • Many of the BMLM's messages and prompts have been revised in attempt to make them easier to understand.
I do not anticipate any further updates (unless problems need to be fixed or someone comes up with another good idea :))

OK so I just tested with version 2.1 and it seems to be working. Congratulations.

Now the question is can I use this to change the BOSS inherent load order.

For instance BOSS loads many older Duke Patrick mods well before bash. It is an argument that I don't want to get in the middle of with BOSS officials stating that they should load prior to bash and Duke stating that they should load after bash.
I've seen technical arguments for both sides but don't want to go on with argument and would rather be able to tell this to have it rearrange the BOSS masterlist so that they are back to after the bashed patch.

Or will it mean that there will then be two entries adn the esp will most likely be placed where the first entry is?

Thanks Surazal

Thanks Psymon

Yes you can use the Override Definitions table to define your preferred load order and it will do a "move" operation so that duplicates are *not* created.

now THAT is useful.

in fact I think I may for the first time keep BOSS and the masterlist actually in my data folder instead of a back up folder I would run tests on.

With this, olod files, and wrye mechanisms of loading masters - fears of running BOSS and making a mess may be a thing of the past.

more tinkering and testing needed on my end but just wanted to say thanks a lot.

Very pleased that you find it useful.

Hope the combined Undefined and Override limit of 50 is not going to be a problem for you :)

Let me know if you find any glitches or come up with some more good ideas.

You don't need to update Word.

If you extract the archive file (available from Nexus) and open the document you will see installation information on page 2 of the document. Once it has been setup, you can have a shortcut to the document on your desktop to run the macro.

Does this help or have I misunderstood the question?

BOSS Master List Manager v2.2 Released

Primarily a stability release rather than any new features.
  • Fixed a few problems that produced incorrect error messages in certain circumstances
  • Fixed a few bugs that I found, but which have not shown up in any testing I have done.
  • Removed the limit of 50 for Undefined and Override definitions. If you exceed the maximum, the macro now dynamically increases the memory it needs in increments of 50.
  • Other stability changes have resulted in minor performance improvements

I haven't tested it in Word 2003, but it will probably work. You will need to get the http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=941B3470-3AE9-4AEE-8F43-C6BB74CD1466&displaylang=en to be able to read Word 2007 documents.

Please read the comment under the Overview about Windows Update.

Let me know whether this gets it working for you.

Just tested the download and I get the save dialogue - so I presume it would work for me. In waht way is the download "broken" for you?

Stop shouting and try a different browser if you have one.

Also, make sure it isn't waiting for you to approve an activex program or something.

I could not resist to test it... (At work, because I have Word 2007 here  ) and now I have to try and get it working at home.

It looks great!

Thanks for this useful tool :)

Did you ever manage to download the compatibility pack and try it? If you are still having problems downloading the pack, have you tried doing a search on Office 2007 Compatibility pack and seeing if there is an alternative download site that works for you?

BOSS Master List Manager v3.0 Released

This is a stability release - no new features have been introduced.
  • Significant revamp of the VBA code in order to make the changes below viable
  • Reduced number of prompts requiring a response
  • When BMLM removes one of your definitions (because it is no longer unknown) it now removes any associated special symbol lines as well
  • Improved and corrected location of insertion or deletion points within the master list - there were some anomalies that could be generated when processing Override Definitions
  • A range of other minor fixes and enhancements.

I don't have or play FO3 so I would not be able to test it. Having said that, I just downloaded BOSS-F and had a look at the master list format. It would nearly work as it is - you only need to change the various location definitions to make it work.

The key issue is that BOSS-F has some additional leading symbol codes (: and ") that BMLM does not process. Also, does BOSS-F create a BOSS log text file and does this have the same Unknown Mods format?

In the end, it might be worth trying this version and see how it behaves with BOSS-F (I am assuming that there are equivalent URLs for the ones defined in the BMLM Configuration Table). If you find that it works, I could probably make a change to BMLM that would allow for the definition of BOSS Symbol Codes. This means that there would only need to be one version.

Let me know how you get on if you decide to do anything.

Should work yeah, I'l give it a try. Everything in BOSS-F is the same, expect the added functions, which I believe Pacciffic Morrowind is going to eventually add in.

Edit: Does this work on openoffice, as I don't have microsoft word?
