As to motive, all avenues are open right now. Could be religious, political, personal, we don't know yet. These kids spent years in the states, lived seemingly ordinary lives. ...Are you kidding? Tons of info on motive and means, possible contacts here or overseas. There is a wealth of information to be had. It's crucial they capture him alive, especially since recent terrorist attacks around the globe are suspected of being born in the Chechen region.

speculation:

-the younger brother made a get away because of the explosives he has with him, police are taking it really carefully. -the older brother was wearing an explosives vest with detonator when shot.

-emergency services are conducting controlled demolitions at the apartment of the two brothers. This indicates not only are explosives found, but that they're in some way armed, possibly rigged and the bomb disposal doesn't even want to touch them, so they blow 'em. This could indicate that the triggering mechanisms are in some way radio controlled -and not cell phone controlled since the cell network was disabled.

-if the kid doesn't have a third -unknown- support element helping him, he'll be apprehended sooner than later. With a support element he could be out of the state by now.

motives: I'm gonna rule out religion (because I can't discuss it anyway /tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':tongue:' /> ) but also none of the usual video materials, farewell messages or other indications of radicalizing were found so far in the brothers apartment, but the explosives were found so it isn't like they're trying to cover their tracks.

Id say that by definition they are mentally ill, because a sane and integrated person wouldnt dream about killing innocents. They would know that it would be counter-productive to any cause they might adhere, quite likely lethal to themselves and a tremendous waste of potential, both in the lives they affect with their act as their own.
A sane person wouldnt treat people as things, he would empathise with other people and therefore realise they are sentient, sapient beings and that there is no excuse to snuff out near limitless potential in a such an unthinking display of barbarity.

Look, yes, I can appreciate the want for more information. But from what they are saying it does not appear they are working with anyone over seas or for a foreign organization. So, gleaning anymore info is kind of pointless. All it'll do is clutter up the prisons even more and I'll as well as everyone else who will have to foot the bill for it. Not only that but he'll be given a lawyer. This dog needs to be put down it will give closure to the citizens of Boston/Massachusetts. If they keep this animal alive and drag him through the ridiculous legal system life will never get back to normal for the people of Mass.

I think it requires a certain degree of sociopathy. Killing someone you know is less, well, deranged than a disregard for human life.
