yes
if you build a feed trough (resources>misc) the brahmin will stick by them
so you fence of a pasture, stick a brahmin feed trough in there and the brahmin will stay there
oh and to your second part
brahmin increase farm productivity, meaning more food stored in workbench
they also increase happiness
and they add fertilizer to your work bench (good for jet marketing)
Brahmin will produce fertilizer and increase food output rate. Other than that, there is no point. If you want to, you can build a trough for the brahmin and they will stay there.
I wish they have added a farming aspect to the game like brahmin contribute to food or milk or something.
The Brahmin will help the settlement: It produces fertilizer and has a good effect on productivity. Also - if you build a feed trough in a settlement chances are, that a Brahmin will arrive and stay.
The cow keeps giving me disapproval for asking more caps though. :'(
I bought a nice little cow as a pet in Hangman's Alley. lol.
And yeah, build a feeding bathtub. They will stick there.
I used to have a visiting Brahmin in Starlight, but she's gone because I didn't put a feed through.
Well, I didn't know what to do either with it.. I was new.
So you bought a cow and you're asking "what now?"
Now you have a cow!
Wait until nightfall and go tip it.
Set up a shop stand and sell cow pies.
Put it on somebody's roof.

I don't think you can catch visiting Brahmin like that? i know there are three or four Brahmins just outside the Finch Farm border, and despite me making a feed trough they never walk in and use it. Even during an attack, when they all run into my settlement boundary they just walk back out calmly...
theres a chance you do
first game i never found kelly or had any idea that you could buy them, yet i had brahmin at sanc, greygarden and hangmans alley that just turned up
basically if you put a trough down theres a chance wandering brahmin will gravitate towards it i think
Probably not the nearby wild ones.
I've tried some cow punching to move them but if you punch them too hard they get a red bar and run away.
However if you build up a settlement and get a few settlers you have a good chance of a cow turning up.
You build the trough to stop them wandering.
Sometimes more than one cow turns up in my experience.
And sometimes there can be one or two settlements that don't get a cow which is where the cow lady comes in handy.
As an aside at one or two settlements I put five or six cows. The cows start to do tricks like standing on each others backs as they all try to hog the trough.
Sometimes instead of standing on another cows back the game can miscalculate and put them way up in the sky.
As you walk into the settlement you can witness a cow splat as it returns to earth in a hurry.
One less cow.
The Brahmins near Finch Farm are wild Brahmin. They may come across the farm, but they're not there to be yours.
I always wondered, where you can buy a brahmin?
If you walk along the roads there are locations where random encounters occur.
One of those encounters can be with a lady called Kelly who sells a Brahmin for 100caps.
After you meet her a couple of times she might always spawn at one spot.
Brahmin at settlements generate fertiliser...which when combined with plastic makes jet...which makes sweet sweet caps.
ok guys been following all the advice...when i go to build mode i notice the brahmin sau unassinged and i cant seem to assign settlers to take care of them...what am i doing wrong......i had 1 die ......so far ive built a trough and enclosed it with a wire fence and they still get out lol.
You haven't done anything wrong.
Fertilizer just appears in your workbench.
The cow is supposed to hang around the special feed trough.
You don't have to do anything else.
I'm really disappointed that they removed the cow tipping mechanic from the game. I used to love doing that in Fallout 3. My daughter asked me to tip a cow over the other day while playing FO4 and I couldn't. We were both saddened.
My Brahmin at Starlight turned out to be a Synth infiltrator After the turrets cut her down, I found a Institute rifle and some ammo on the carcass, as well as a Synth component.
There's no way I'm giving it the opportunity to friendzone me like Piper did.
