Bought DLC, get "Unable to find your Fallout 3 installat

Hey all. I purchased the Broken Steel and Point Lookout DLC from Newegg on a disc, and it just refuses to install. Whenever I run the installer, it says "Unable to find your Fallout 3 installation. Please reinstall". I don't want to go through the hassle of reinstalling and possibly losing my savegames unless I'm positive that it will fix it.

I have my games installed on a different partition than my OS (OS on C:, all other data on O:), could this be the culprit? Also, my game updated itself to 1.7 before I got the DLC, but I see that the DLC disc only comes with the 1.6 patch, wondering if this is a problem too.

Anyway, all hints/tips appreciated!

You won't lose your save game if you back them up first. They're in (My)Documents/(My)Games/Fallout 3. I put the My in brackets as that's only used for Windows XP.

Thanks for the tip. I don't really want to reinstall it though unless I'm sure it will fix it. I can't see why it would make any difference, but if anybody else has experienced this problem let me know!

Well, turns out it was user error. When I upgraded from WinXP to Windows 7, I never reinstalled Fallout 3. I didn't realize this since the game still worked anyway (weird!). All I had to do was "install" the game and then it let me add the DLC without issue.

I put "install" in brackets since the installation only took a few seconds- I have a feeling that it only updated the registry or something. Overall, great game! Can't wait to dig in to the DLC!
