(PC) I bought physical copy for a reason!

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 2:36 pm

Extremely disappointed I'm sitting here waiting for a game I bought a physical copy of to download. I would have pre-downloaded this a head of time like everyone else who bought a digital copy. But I didn't buy a digital copy because I didn't want to wait 2 hours to download it off of Steam... And yeah maybe its my fault because I didn't know this was the case. No where I read did it say this was the case. But its cool because I'm sure Bethesda and Steam could care less what one person thinks...

Thats what Im asking myself now. I am really pissed at Bathesda right now. I can understand having to login to steam tio finnish DLing the info for copyright reasons. BUT COME ON!!!!!

I bought the DVD version for PC so I wouldnt have to spend 8-10 hrs DLing the game and guess what Im doing, SPENDING 10 HRS DLING THE GAME!!!!!!!

If I wanted to DL the game from steam I would have ordered from steam. so .... WTF!!!!

Well, on these forums this has been discussed up and down many times. And it's DVD, not CD. For a CD you would wait twice-tripple the time.

So I'm not the only one who is having to wait forever while Fallout downloads

I'm only on 30% and it keeps bouncing from like 1 whole day to 1 hour in estimated download time

Unfortunately this seems to be the way the industry is going. I miss the days of popping in a cd and playing but even on my consoles a disc just starts the process anymore. My new laptop doesn't even have a disc drive of any kind.

It would of been nice if ZeniMax Media Inc., Bethesda Softworks, and Bethesda Game Studios sold the physical boxed versions of the PC versions of the video games that they develop and publish to be 100% Digital Rights Management (DRM) free.

I can't purchase these kinds of video games on DVD discs like this or even keep downloading video games that are 25GB's, 50GB's, and so on because I have 300GB monthly data cap from Comcast.

It's making me very upset. I wish ZeniMax Media Inc. and Bethesda Softworks would follow CD Projekt RED's footsteps.

you'll either go digital next time or go without. i know it's not what you want to hear but physical media is on it's last leg. Unless 60% or more of all PC gamers go out and buy a blue ray drive then physical media isn't long for this world i'm afraid.

You seem to not understand.

Physical media will NOT be disappearing for the next 10 years.

Why do some people have to keep telling you that some of us have MONTHLY DATA CAPS.

I have 300GB's of monthly data caps from Comcast, other PC gamers have like 50GB's or 100GB's. Some of us have really bad internet connections, some rural areas in the USA believe it or not don't even bring in cable or wiring.

When you buy a disk and you get a download time measured in days, the publisher has failed. Granted, that's partly because my husband and I are both downloading the remainder of the game, but that lengthy a download is really not on. They need either to put the majority of the game on the disks, so that we're just downloading a bit that's been held back as piracy protection, or we need to get our disks in time to start downloading with everyone else. With Steam required to play there's no excuse for treating their paying customers this badly.

Your like the guy who corrects people for their use of There're, their and there... Great... DVD not CD... point still is this download is stupid. I want my 5 DVDs or however many to install from, not a 5mb/s wait for the last 19 gigs to download.

Lol, op. I guess you haven't been watching the threads for weeks. I feel your pain. Unfortunately, I'm as well one of the victims of collateral damage created by Beth business practices. Watching the walkthroughs on YouTube, I'm happy to see FO4 looking as good and at times better than what I had expected but it is a punch in the stomach that I won't be playing FO4 this year or even next year because of my slow Internet speed which is worse than yours.

I feel you OP, but its a sadly necessary policy on their end due to piracy. I hope it doesn't take you too much longer. (I for one will be waiting till this coming Sunday due to tons of work this week).

I'm giving up on the video game industry.

I'm officially done purchasing video games ever since I heard Konami did this with the physical boxed version of the PC version of Metal gear Solid V and now ZeniMax Media Inc. and Bethesda Softworks a few weeks ago with the physical boxed version of the PC version of Fallout 4.

Only CD Projekt RED and gog.com I will support.

I just cant waste my 300GB's of monthly data caps on downloading video games, especially singleplayer only video games.

So if ZeniMax Media Inc. and Bethesda Softworks ever want to earn my money they have to sell 100% Digital Rights Management (DRM) free physical boxed versions of the PC versions of the video games that they publish and sell to brick and mortar retailer stores worldwide.

After officially stopping purchasing PC versions of video games from Steam in 2012. I have SAVED A LOT of money, Well minus the money I spent on purchasing PC versions of video games from gog.com.

I'm not going to accept this at all.

Thats not the

Thats not the point. Why sell physical at all if you still have to DL the game. As far as Im concerned its one heck of a misdirection.

The corporate wheels of capitalism are rolling hard and fast into the digital age and they don't care about you. Your a dwindling demographic and in the grand scheme just a bump in the road. Sorry but that is the cold hard truth. You'll be lucky if you got 5 years before 80% of the industry is digital only.

On a side note: What are you complaining about anyway, this game is less than 1/10th of your cap? Guess you have to cut back on the streaming a little eh?

Pretty interesting that you say corporations will stop selling physical media on discs.

You do know corporations store their data, spreadsheets, and so on on discs for backup right?

SONY has developed a new Blu-Ray disc that can hold 300GB's of data on it for corporations to use. Corporations are not going 100% digital ever.

Hmm why and what am I complaining about? Well lets see if i purchase the PC version of Fallout 4 and download it, then keep on purchasing and downloading more and more PC versions of video games my 300GB monthly data cap will get used up in a month.

Just to play have to connect to the internet to download and play singleplayer only video games is absolutely ridiculous.

We are not a minority. There are still millions of physical boxed versions of PC versions of video games sold to brick and mortar retailer stores worldwide.

The music industry even though it's 100% digital still sells physical discs and they sell like 300+ or so million CD's every year.

Movies are still selling millions of physical copies on DVD discs and Blu-Ray discs combined.

their "sadly necessary" policy due to piracy has not stoped pirats from already providing full copys of the game for install, Nor has it stopped a literal flood of "Watch me play Fallout 4 Live" streams in the past 4 days and honestly if they even thought that then There [censored] idiots.

All it did was piss off players who got stuck waiting to play the game.

the reality is they did not want to burn Blue ray disks for PC.

I wouldn't mind if ZeniMax Media Inc. and Bethesda Softworks injection molded, printed, and shipped the physical boxed version of the PC version of Fallout 4 on 5 DVD discs or 7 DVD discs at all.

Your issues is more serious than mine. ^^

My issue is not really related to DRM even though I get your dissatisfaction. My issue is really simplistic in that I have low internet speeds to make a 20+GB download viable and that's the only reason why I buy physical copies.

Oh well. The only consolation I've is that I haven't spent my money. I won't support Beth for their recent "customer service". And I can almost picture Beth saying to this, "Well thank you for your support and don't let the door hit you on your way out." ^^

Why has this now become the industry standard? I am happy to pay a little more if it means I can play the game when I buy it. it's unfair that I now have to wait another 20 hours downloading because Bethesda is too cheap to buy a few more discs last time I ever buy a game day one. This is the same [censored] that happened on Arkham Knights launch.

What choice? I'm 100% happy that I save my money and don't purchase physical boxed versions of PC versions of AAA video games sold in brick and mortar retailer stores that have Digital Rights Management (DRM) copy protection software of any kind or PC versions of AAA video games that are sold digitally only.

I will instead fight it and complain about it in the forums and show them if they ever want to earn my money and sales from me that that is the only way I will ever spend my money.

I can live without playing video games.

When I was a kid growing up video games didn't exists anyways. So I'm used to it.
