Bound Bow seems...

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 8:18 pm

I've been thinking about it; compare Bound Bow to other spells...not only does it have faster bullets and decent damage, it also requires NO magicka to fire the 100 bound arrows it comes with. It might do a touch less damage, but its effeciency is so insane that at higher difficulties there is almost no reason to use any other spells. At most you might cast 2-3 spells before conjuring your bow, at which point you never use destruction again.

It just seems a bit odd to me.

Yeah, to further elucidate this, a LP i'm watching right now has a bound bow that does 74 damage per shot, with unlimited ammo, and its barely even tweaked. At max it will probably do more per shot than a mastery level spell.

Seems...really weird.

Maybe it's better to compare it to other bows instead of destruction spells? It is a bow after all, conjured or not. I agree it can be OP when combined with the archery tree though yet player choice and all that.

It really doesn't matter too much, this is a single player game after all. Isn't having fun one of the most important things?

Bound bow is not OP. Its damage is put to shame by any good smithed bow with similar enchantments to the conjuration perks.

A bound bow with the mystic binding perk will do the same damage as a daedric bow with daedric arrows I believe.

But less damage than an upgraded deadric bow and it obviously can't be enchanted. So yea it does decent damage but nothing extremely spectacular.

I was just saying that it's overpowered when compared to spells, is all. A mage casting spells to do damage will do much less damage than a conjurer shooting arrows. I just thought that was silly, since they're theoretically(?) supposed to be somewhat equal.

Yep I think this is correct. It should be thought of as an alternative bow rather than comparing it to destruction.

While in sneak undetected mode one arrow from a bound bow that I have perks in archery for it doing 80% more damage will take down most bandits and sabre tooths in one hit. Other things like trolls will go down in 2. So I'm happy with my bound bow

Eh, just with enchants (100 enchanting) and my archery skill (currently at 76), my upgraded ebony bow does 175 damage. I'm level 36. I use about 8 arrows per dragon, on average.

A Legendary Daedric bow with Daedric arrows will do 10 more damage. So I wouldn't say it's being "put to shame".

Bound bow is great for delivering your poisons e.g. Weakness to Fire, Weakness to Magic etc., before you follow with destruction spells.

Do Bound weapons even also scale off the associated skill for damage and side-effects? For instance, does the Bound Bow benefit from Archery Perks?

Bound bows advantages are, it doesn't use arrows, has no weight and has the same damage out put as an un-enchanted or improved Daedric bow.

Normal Daedric can be vastly improved over bound but then you need high skill level in both smithing and enchanting and the materials for it.

Yes.

With a Conjuration/Archery/One-Handed/Sneak focused character, I'm suddenly kind of glad there aren't Bound Daggers.

You would also need Illusion in there for silent casting as Bound weapons create noise just like most spells.

Bound Bow is well balanced. You end up having to invest heavily in two differing perk trees to make the best use of it when compared to destruction so on that basis it does more damage and perhaps rightfully so. When compared to a smithing / enchanting bowman, the damage bound bow does is less but they spend more perks to make it happen. Conjuration as a school provides a degree more versitility in that you have access to summons and a perk allowing soul traps without casting so it can be looked at as a cost effective alternative to the crafting / enchanting bowman builds when you really want to tack something else in for your character.

Making the bound weapons Daedric strength could probably go a bit further up the perk tree, perhaps 70 skill at least 50, with an additional perk in between perhaps.
As it stands now they are likely your strongest weapons for long time if not most of the game, for a non-smith at least.
I found the present early access to daedric quality made a "mystic archer" character a bit dull.
