Bow and arrow really should be a weapon..

Post » Fri Sep 03, 2010 1:47 am

It wouldn't.

Remember there is damage thresholds now.

A .22 shouldn't get through power armor either.

EDIT:

And those ARE lies about using bows in oblivion. I played one Kajit charater that never laid a paw on anyone.

Lies. Pure utter lies. I had my Archery skills as my main skill, and I could score one hit kills with a shot to the face. :obliviongate:

Hmm, I may revisit Oblivion sometime to build a proper archer type character. Raising skills and attributes in Oblivion is kind of a pain though... =/

Out of curiosity, what were your character's stats and gear and what difficulty were you playing?

You might not have been using enough alchemy...
It's been years since i've played oblivion and I don't remember the stats and difficulty was normal.
I just know that I was constantly using the different alchemy poison effects though. If I recall correctly there was a poison that would slow enemies, poisons that would do damage over time, and poisons that would increase the targets damage taken.

I just thought of something how would an arrow get through Power Armor.

Arrow with a plasma/explosive/pulse charge at the tip?

Yeah, it's been a while for me too. I remember trying to make 3 and 4 effect poisons via alchemy, which came in handy. So were the item enchantments.

If FONV wasn't so damn close I'd be starting a new character in Oblivion now... =p

I think they should not only add Bows and Arrows, but also Crossbows and Bolts.

Plus, with the weapon customization system, these could become extremely powerful. Imagine adding a radiation soaked head to the bows, these could do massive damage to everything (apart from Ghouls and Super Muties).

I'm curious, where do people get these ideas about radiation? Even in the game, you have to soak up a massive load of it before it becomes a threat- so to make a radioactive bullet, bolt, or arrow anything more than a (very weak) slow poison it would have to be so radioactive you'd need Rad-X and an advanced radiation suit to load and fire your weapon, then dose up on Rad-Away immediately after firing to keep it from being self-lethal. I mean really...how long are you going to carry around an arrow that's giving off radiation like the entrance to Vault 87?

Oh horserubbish. I got no problem with bows and arrows per se- hell, I'd love to see a Super Mutant or someone in Power Armor packing a compound bow made from a leaf spring off the rear axle of a car. 350 pound draw dropping to about 100, shooting 3-foot sections of steel rebar? Who needs poison or radiation when you're basically a ballista with legs?

But didn't you know?
Main characters are gods when it comes to radiation resistance. :bonk:

But I agree, radiation weapons make little to no sense. *cough*fatman*cough*
But Reservation. They had radiation missiles or something. That would've been nice, to when you've earned their loyalty just go in there and fire away a missile at some town causing it to be overflown with radiation and killing everyone. (no ghoulification).

I also read somewhere that a... Legion member had planted a radiation bomb in an NCR camp and when the player gets there the whole camp had turned into feral ghouls.

Would be cool to get some of those radiation bombs.

But, radiation bullets? Radiation arrows?
That just seems kinda... Weird and illogical.

I'd like to see a crossbow of some type - similar to the one from Half-Life 2. That or a modified Hunting Crossbow. It would do extra damage to limbs, and killing-blow criticals would pin said limbs to the wall (like the Railway Rifle). You could craft the arrows and coat the tips with a debilitating poison.

The only tipped-arrow that i really want to see is THE EXPLOSIVE TIPPED ARROW!!!
And, add some crossbow please!
Crossbows are stealthy, yet powerful weapon. I could easily imagine a very high-powered and heavy crossbow-wielding power armored guy firing rebars from old buildings to penetrate other guys with power armors.
Crossbows are used by special forces, too, as a stealth weapon. In the middle ages, crossbows were very fearsome, that some knights even tries to make the church ban it. It would be a useful weapon in the harsh post-apocalyptia...

:excl: OBISIDIAN: URGENT NOTICE: YOU CAN MAKE BOWS!

Steps to take:

A. Modify SS's bows with his explicit permission.
OR
B. Remake bows from oblivion from scratch.
THEN
C. Add to F:NV, in dlc or prefferably the vanilla game, before all these poeple that have posted in this thread shoot your workspace with nuclear tipped arrowheads. :nuke:

In all seriousness, do it! It will be a da*ned shame if we don't see bows. Even more so than tommy guns( Do not start a failspam discussion over tommy guns, make a new thread ). If one modder could do it at home, why can't you, the devolpers?

Sorry if this aggravates the devs, but if it gets their attention.....

Also, I think it'd be cool if we could retrieve our arrows (just normal arrows, not the explosive ones, of course) and spears, thus granting us another form of getting through hardcoe without packing 1000 rounds of rifle ammo. 15 arrows and a couple throwing spears and you got yourself the ultimate hardcoe wasteland tribal survivor!

Well, it was an old character build I had going, I didn't make my own class yet, so I used the preset Agent. So you could imagine me jumping around and shooting bows right into people's faces when they got too close :P
I was also playing on medium. Hard difficulty isn't even fair, making you have to use your entire quilt to kill something...atleast from lower type of arrows.

Bows and Arrows FTW! It'd be great to have the bow and arrow in New Vegas, so I vote yes for this one.

As I recall the Depleeted Uranium 50 cal. ammo was very similar to the real thing.
The tip was self sharpening and would cause toxic gasses if burned in an explosion or fire..
I found myself tracking down each of the Spore Plant seed pods to throw as darts.
Immagine combining the seed pod with a motorcycle spoke for a crossbow bolt,
coating the tip with Depleeted Uranium and melting through Power Armor or ripping through that bunker in style...

I think I put the formula on a .pdf file here on my Pipboy....

...So... You want a seed to be able to penetrate a power armor through radiation magic?

I would like bows and crossbows as the sneaky mans weapon with poison tips and crippling bonuses so you can disable enemys a lot better. Arrows would be weak but they are gunna be very easy to buy/make and the bow would be faster than most guns as "reloading" a bow would only take 1-3 seconds. Crossbows would be more powerful but a lot slower reloading. One of the upgrades could be a missile arrow which is just an arrow with a missile tied on it.

It would give a more hunters feel with the game so no reason why there cant be any bows and crossbows. theyd probably come under small guns

have a parlizing arrow and a flaming arrow and a poisining arrow but an explosive arrow would be a pot shot to hit somone unless it dosent explode when it hits put u have to ignite it with the flame arrow or a molotov (will that be a wep?)
