Bow and arrow really should be a weapon..

Post » Thu Sep 02, 2010 7:43 am

simply by having a bow and arrow as a weapon... their would be a whole new roleplay potential to be had...

WILD MAN OF THE DESERT!

I could totally play that kind of character. Id live in a cave, eat wild animals, and hunt stray travellers.

I hope a bow is in the game.

Could be a tribal weapon but they tend to use spears.

explosive arrows would be cool, hit a car silently near a group of raiders and watch the carnage!

Definately.

In almost every pop-culture instance of post apocalypse bows and arrows are used.

Now more than ever (because we're in the wild west, wasteland that is) bows should be included.

I want bows.

Dart gun is pretty much like a bow and arrow. And perhaps assuming the dart gun is still in the game you could modify the dart ammo. NUCLEAR TIPPED DARTS :nuke:

I was actually just discussing this with someone! A seventy pound bow will punch through a flack jacket with a good broadhead. I have a English Longbow that is close 85 pounds and i haven't encountered many targets that can withstand it. I also have have a recurve that is very wicked. On a similar note atlatls are deadly tools of destruction, it could be a fun gimick if nothing else. I also have a few rifles which i reload for (5.56 also known as rem 223 and .308) and it would be really cool if you saved your brass when you shoot and trade it in for a discount when buying ammo, a really shining example of where a good barter trait could come in handy. Of course finding primers, bullets and powder would still be on the shopping list for the trader haha. I was also talking to the same buddy about homemade bombs and gases that could be easy and deadly in the game like popular things in movies, bleach/windex or gasoline and styrofoam. of course all these are probably too late for NV so this is probably the wrong forum, but just a thought.

Another bow thread ey?
Well, I'll contribute with my regular line:

Yes I want bows and arrows, in fact, I want lots of arrow-based weapons like those in Mad Max 2/3 and I want a skill for them.

I just noticed this thread, wait this thread came up here 5 other times right or was it 15?

Yes Bows, and no reason why there wouldn't be any either.

Types of arrows:

Broad Head - Does lot of damage and easily break limbs on unarmored opponents.

Barbed - extra limb damage, critical, or something.

The nice piercing arrow head - basic arrow

Maybe some type of dynamite tied around the arrow but to make things harder, the projectory and distance are really gimped.

I'm still hoping that they have included bows and just aren't telling us.... At this point I would likely even be satisfied with some kind of in game explanation as to why there aren't any: "There used to bows everywhere, but they were really easy to hunt for food, so they're all gone now..." or even better, an explanation from the developers as to why they won't include them.

bow and arrow would be pretty sweet. seeing this thread reminded me of a line from a song: "Bringing bow and arrow nukes and guerrillas with guns". just imagine...nuclear warhead tipped arrows haha.

Oblivion with guns. Fallout 3 with swords.

Yes, I'd like bows too.

It would?
Obsidian is developing New Vegas, not Bethesda.
And I'm sure TESV is going to use a new or way more upgraded version of Gemebryo engine.

how about an arrow tipped wth a hypodermic needle that injects the FEV into its human target. You wait 24 hours or so to sleep, come back and the infected raider has mutated and killed or severly weaked his party , allowind you to come in and clean up the mess or loot. You miss out on the XP but clear out a hostile area a little easier.

This has been discussed a lot in the past. My vote is "yes." I don't see any reason there shouldn't be bows. A post-apoc wasteland would be full of all kinds of primitive weapons, and bows are pretty much the staple primitive projectile weapon in many cultures.

I definitely agree that bows and arrows would still be around, especially out in the wastes where bullets are more rare. Bows are also Awesome weapons of assassination with their near-silent striking power, and give built-in weaknesses against armor to balance them out. I'm sure there's a good Canon reason why, perhaps ammunition is plentiful-enough that most people don't bother with anything other than shooting guns?

Still, would love to have a Bow!
