And Enchant Arrows by whole quivers, not one at a time only.

I know they have also mentioned that arrows will be a limited resource, but if you want a strictly bow-wielding character, it may be difficult to stick to only bows.

Because of the limited resource, I don't see the PC being able to craft arrows. Although I would like to see that implemented, as it would be more difficult to use bows only if you could only rely on what you find and buy, assuming they are scarce. They will be more powerful though, so it may balance out though. But scarce could mean a lot of different things. It was easy in oblivion to accumulate 100's of arrows, although it took quite a few shots to take down anything with a lot of health.

Sounds cool, but how would ivory tusks or dragon bones bend in a working bow?
No flexibility to the degree necessary to draw a bowstring before breaking either the string or bow.
Just sayin

they had bone bows in Morrowind. I dunno

I'm fairly sure crafting arrows will be a feature. Todd said on a few occasions that any job we see an NPC doing, we can actually do ourselves. He also said that burning down a lumber mill may result in less arrows available in that area. So, with those two things in mind; we can tell NPC's will make arrows from wood, meaning by extension, the PC will also have that ability.

That makes perfectly logical sense :celebration:

As a committed stealth / archer type. I'd LOVE it if I could craft my own bows and arrows from stuff I find or harvest from creatures.

If its not in the vanilla game, I'm sure this will get modded in, but hopefully it will be in from the start.

Like guards that would still be chasing you with ten arrows in their chest....

I can't see arrows being that scarce, I mean that would be absurd surely.

There was Bonemold armor yes. I don't recall bonemold bows, just arrows I think. The name Bonemold always implied to me that there was a special process used to shape these things, possibly semi-magical in nature. I don't think this Bonemold material will show up in Skyrim.

bonemold bows were in morrowind so it could be possible to work ivory into a bow as well.

Enchanted arrows and enchanting them needs to go way down in cost. It was way too expensive to get arrows with even basic enchantments by comparison to weapons that will last forever. Arrow enchantment should activate upon impact whether or not the intended target is struck to offset reduced cost.

Thx 4 the link.
I still think stonecrafting & bonecrafting is unlikely for Skyrim, given the info already released. Probably just metal arrowheads acquired through NPC blacksmiths & smithing skill.
The statement that arrows will be rare has me worried though.
If stealth(characters) get shafted like in many other action-oriented rpg's it will be disappointing.
So far the the stealth system sounds good, but skills and crafts don't seem promising for stealth characters yet.
Switching Alchemy to a Stealth skill won't make up for an inability to craft bows/arrows.

I agree with this. I think arrowheads may be limited to metal. I am optimistic because of the ammo crafting seen in NV. I also hope stealth characters will be a prominent role, and it seems that the dagger stealth kill (up to 10x damage) is being focused on pretty heavily.

I still think that they should include it personally. It doesn't have to be realistic for it to be cool. If I had a dragon bone or ivory bow and it worked (regardless of whether it worked in real life or not) I would be happy in the game. Same as how it is unrealistic to take the kind of physical abuse you do in any video game but it wouldn't be fun otherwise.

If one can smith armor and weapons, it seems reasonable that one could craft a bow and even some arrows.

I truly like the idea of improved archery for Skryim.

Maybe there will be no need for enchanting arrows this time around & bows will have magical damage & effects transfer to the arrow as is the standard practice in most RPGs.
Would that be terrible? Or just simplify Archery in a good way?
Imo it wouldn't be so bad, I think the pros outweigh the cons.

maybe it could be something more simple like:

enchanting arrows while the bow is equipped and ready to fire, i know a bow is a two handed weapon but i'm not talking about using spells on one hand and firing the bow with the other, what i'm proposing is while the bow drawn you press the opposing trigger to the one you use to fire the arrow(hold the button to select the spell), this would make the front hand on the bow transfer magick energy to the arrow directly enchanting it.

Magick energy from the bow or the character?
I'm guessing you mean equipping a bow in one hand and a spell in the other?

I always found the magical bows being so different from other magical weapons in the game (TES3&4) unfavourable to archers.

1-you'd use a little mana from your character, but the mana cost would be far lower than the cost of using a spell.

2- yes but not really, you're only using the bow but the back hand shoots the arrow and the front hand enchants it. you can't use conventional spell while having the bow equipped.

kinda like the ammo powers in mass effect 2 (i don't really have a better comparison than this one, and i'm sure someone is going to start flaming just because i mentioned a bioware game)

I think it would simplify the process to simply make the enchantment on the bow transfer to the arrow.

That would be awesome to add poision, barbed, extra fast, or even armor penetration to be able to made. They would add a lot of diversity to being an archer.

My character wasnt much of an archer in Oblivion, but the bow and arrow system looks much improved in Skyrim, so I might give it a try.
