Bow in Left hand

Are there any mods that allow you to hold bows in the left hand. so that you pull the bowstring with your right?

If not, how hard would it be to mod it?

I dont think its possible... the animation has the bow in right hand, so to make it work for the left hand you need a new animation. Making which is very hard...

The more difficult part than animation would be to get the bows appear in left hand and arrows in right hand while shooting.(So i would recommend you to not waste your time on this thing)

Either way i like the Morrowind`s way of equipping bows better than Oblivion and Skyrim it feels more logical and also looks better.

btw you are asking it coz you have become used to the one in oblivion and skyrim dont ya??

Maybe it feels more logical to you, but in real life bows are held in left hand. :P

I'm not experience with bows, but is this a universal posture? what about lefties, Morrowind has a lefty bow animation by accide- I mean.. default?

It looks right to me. Of course, being left-handed, it would.

Would it be possible to extract the animation file and flip it or something rather than making a new one?

Your dominant hand draws the arrow back and your other hand holds the bow.

The only way for that to make sense, is if you could do something two handed, but then again two handed wouldn't work. I don't know all the details. Perhaps, one of the new MW engines being made will allow that option, to specify weapon, bow and shield preferences.

And yes it does seem silly, being right handed I would pull back with the right hand, more power, more control, more fine adjustments. So having right handed characters using the weapon backwards from RL does seem a little awkward, but only if your paying close attention to the animation. I never really noticed close enough to care. Then again, each person uses and learns weapons differently. Playing the piano a bit myself and using both hands, I've played it backwards before (Hands crossed) but it just doesn't make as much sense.

Yep it's default. I think it's universal except for lefties, yes. I'm not into marksmanship either (though I'd like to be :) ) but I always figured it's because your right hand is much stronger and you need a good bit of strength to pull the string. Might be wrong though.

Thanks for all the replies!

It's not a big deal I guess it just seemed weird to me for 2 reasons. (Of course, lefties are probably right at home for once!)

1. I'm right handed.

2. Most other games have it the other way arounds.

I guess I was hoping it would be an easy fix and could be flipped or something.

On a personal level I think games should allow for both hands. Most games it seems like the problem is the opposite. Lefties usually get left out.

Getting the weapon bone (bone the bow is attached to) to follow the left hand while it's linked to the right, and vice versa, would be the toughest aspect. You'd probably have to attach it to the left hand, flip the animation, save the animation transform positions and then swap it back over to the right hand and load the animation onto it. And then do the same for whatever bone the arrow uses, and even then it would probably be messy and need cleaning up.

It's a good bit of work considering it's a small issue. Games shouldn't allow for both hands, because that would waste dev time.

Lord knows devs shouldn't waste time making customers feel more comfortable in their games when there are pointless easter eggs that need inserting. :D

Considering how much time is spent by players creating characters that feel right to them, especially in RPGs, why should so fundamental an issue be completely ignored by so many, for so long? I am disabled; I get tired of seeing perfect people everywhere I look in games and even that has been examined by some game developers (and modders), but left-handedness, so common that even the current US President is left-handed, is considered too trivial to waste time on? Clearly, if one game can make all bows left-handed, and one can make them all right-handed, it shouldn't require a game engine to be re-written to have both.

Disclaimer: No, I'm not upset. I'm not emotional in the slightest. I'm just showing the lefties a little love.
