Bow Is OverPowered

Post » Sun Mar 23, 2014 12:54 pm

Go watch Force on YouTube. While the majority of his videos have been a bow + 2H Nightblade, he shows all four classes in a multitude of builds and in each one- if built correctly- allows you to wade hip deep into crap and come out smelling like roses. I've been watching him for a month now and it's all in how you play- bow doesn't seem any more or less OP than anything else, in my opinion.

though - I'm talking pve not pvp...

My next topic could be DKs are OP.

Wait for the release of the game before you start asking for nerfs.

Not to defend bows, as I'm going to be a melee class. Your video doesn't show bow to be overpowered in my opinion.

First, understand that the partial charged attacks from stealth having high damage is a bug that is already being addressed for release. This was stated in this weeks Reddit AMA with the dev team. So those hits are not valid for this discussion as they are going away.

Partial charged stealth attacks: That was a bug, and the fix just missed this most recent patch. You can expect partially charged, sneak heavy attacks to scale smoothly in their damage all the way up to the full charged value"

Next, the video doesn't detail specifics about skill points spent, points put in attributes, damage ratings of weapons, etc... I know that there is some info in the youtube summary, but I'd like to have seen that demonstrated in the video.

Damage summary of equivalent attack types...

PVP
Bow full charge (looked like one light and one heavy target) - 664
2H Heavy (1 heavy armored enemy, 1 light armored enemy) - 597
DW Heavy (target looked heavy armor) - 407
PVE
2H heavy - 878
bow full charge - 779
DW heavy - 672

This shows they are effective, but not "OP". There is also a trade off to being an archer, and that typically comes with close range weakness. That will change at level 15 with weapon swap, but then everyone else can carry a bow at level 15 if they choose. Seems like a level playing field to me.

Bows are strong and effective. Agreed.

Bows are overpowered. No, disagree.

Bows just need a minimum range for their attacks, if they don't have already.

I disagree. I enjoyed using a bow in Skyrim, and loved the power I was able to have with it. Typically in MMO's I avoid it.

But since Skyrim was the last ES I played, bow was fresh in my mind and so that is what I tried first in ESO. I found that there are a lot of melee mobs and as soon as you aggro they run in and render some abilities useless. This however was soloing. In groups I can see how it can be more effective. As well, if I tried to maintain range after so far creatures turn back and regain full health... no way to really know at what point this happens until they turn.

noobs talking about stuff they have no clue as usual...

many weapons hit harder then the bow, go do some testing before you make dumb posts like this.

we already had weak bows, and they were moved up sligtly to make them effective in PvP.

Its more like some dude made level 10 went to croydiil and probably got owned by a level 50, and then he thinks bows are OP.

Agreed... until we get API keys that give us game data on damage, these statements are simply put out to invoke mindless/meaningless discussion.

Non-bow users have both charge and teleport strike or familiars... given you instant retaliation to bow users.... That doesn't include the snares and stuns that can also be used against kiting bow users.

Give some facts (which is impossible) or just quit wasting our time with these baseless comments.

My 1st statement: I backed, well with the youtube video that link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ooEzPG_xfWA shows the Bow dmg being on the top compared to other abilities.

My 2nd statement: Bow skill Focused Aim is able to hit targets as far as 40m and gives other ranged ablities an extra 5m range.

My 3rd stament: Bow abilities Venom Arrow and Draining Shot being instant cc so much easier to execute in PvP than:

Uppercut(TH) 1sec cast time

Power Bash(OHS) 1.2 cast time

Rune Prison(DM) 1.5sec cast time

Though with the 3rd one it makes me think that why are those 3 out of all cc with cast time when others are instant.

I didn't ask nerfs, I clearly asked buffs for others.

I know that with a staff, you'll bop the target with the end of the staff instead of firing flames/sparks/a laser beam/etc as you do at a distance, and as far as I could tell the damage was the same, but I wasn't really paying close attention to that or what difference it might make with heavy vs light attacks. I imagine that a bow user will do something similar up close, if they don't just take point-blank shots.

Have to agree that saying Bow is OP is reaching a bit too far. But other weapons could use a little love.

I disagree with close range weaknesses. As bow user you have instant interrupt and instant cc that puts distance between you and target + snares target with morfed ability.

I don't recall having any CC, but I barely hit 10. Seemed like there was some to be had later. Perhaps weakness wasn't the right term, but bow felt more effective if I kept them away from me. Perhaps I'm remembering my experience incorrectly.

My main position still stands. I don't see them being overpowered, but they are very effective.

Bows are actually slower than the other weapons. Damage wise, I would prefer to use a lightning staff or resto staff because their charge attack is a channel and could end up dealing a lot more dmg than a charged bow attack. But I will use bows because I like archery Irl :P.

asking to buff the other weapons is the practically same as nerfing the bow - and no, the bow is not op, its annoying to see nearly everyone walk around with a bow but that doesnt make it op, its just the safe choice for low level cyrodiil pvp and it will change once people will hit level cap and really start thinking about their builds and stuff

I remember reading over on Tamriel Foundry that bows were actually the second lowest DPS weapon in the game, next to the resto staff.

If charging/releasing a bow's heavy attack is slower than other weapons, that needs to be factored into the equation if you're trying to gauge it's DPS.

I will be using a bow due to my poor latency. I just hope it is not OP, that would be lame.

Well, daggers are clearly overpowered. Better nerf them. And a dragon knight chained me down from a keep wall. That can't be right. A Templar jabbed my with a shiny stick and knocked me on my ass. Sorcerers were setting me on fire. Do the devs even play their own game?
