Bow Is OverPowered

Post » Sun Mar 23, 2014 11:31 am

Hi!

1) Bows damage is superior compared to melee weapons and you can shoot it from safe distance without greater danger of being hit yourself.

2) Bows range is superior compared to Staff and Magical abilities.

3) Bows Interrupts and CC is instant cast while Sorcerers and ie Sword users have a cast time for theirs.

I bet I make a lot of friends posting this, but facts can speak for themselves. Though I do not want bow nerfed, but some melee and Sorcery put on bar with bow.

Balance for all!

Thx!

I was worried about this too, all the PvP I watched was just bow nerds sniping

I think it was the most popular weapon at low levels and from what pvp i did. Not to mention you can make nightbalde builds with it where you can kite harder bosses to death without them touching you. Magnum shot+ cripple = OP

No it isn't. Especially when factoring sneak attack bonus.

But range will always have its advantages.

Melee gets gap closers though, so it's not as if ranged has free reign.

1: Don't run blatantly from your group otherwise you will get owned in Cyrodiil, this game consists of teamwork, not solo wannabes. (not calling you one, OP.)

2: I've killed numerous bow users by simply charging and stunning them before they had a chance to shoot. I was a 2 handed wielding DK DPS, NO ranged.

3: With all the lag that beta provided during Cyrodiil, it wasn't easy for anybody to take out ranged.

thnx!

i disagree that its over powered, infact it doesnt even have a proper skill tree. if anything it needs to be stronger.,

if you shoot a arrow youll see it disapier in mid flight cause it can only travel so far.

it need skills and skill lines,

would even be awesome if we could have skills on it that target certain parts of the body

EX: target knee skill

target Head skill

target heart and throat skill

ect ect

The only issues I really have against bows is a user(s) that get such a big jump on me from stealth mode with the crit, bonus damage, cc, range, etc. By the time I shake all of that off and try close the gap I'm pretty much dead.

I don't know how balanced things are though, since I'm not a PTS tester.

I had been thinking the topic for a while, but when I saw this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ooEzPG_xfWA it strenghten my believes about Bow being OP.

So are you going to argue just "range will allways have its advantages" and that supposed to justify it doing more damage than melee.

I think Balance wise melee should do at least same or more dmg than ranged because you are in higher danger of getting hurt when you are in the middle of it all(fight).

...

Bow does have skill lines.

And with the game system, targets are "boxes" not "couplings of parts"

This will never happen without a major game overhaul

The only time a Bow was OP was when they had 2+ archers standing on rocks in Cyrodiil and you had to walk are the rock to makes it up, however stealthers DESTROYED them easily because once they lose range they are not nearly as good

Maybe me saying Bow is OP is going too far. What I mean is, Bow is in current weapon balance at the top and other weapons could use a little buff/help.

I had both a bow and a duel wield dagger characters during the beta tests and I actually did better with the daggers. I didn't like the lack of range on the bow. I don't know if staffs have lower range but if they do that svcks because frankly the range on bows weren't all that great, unless they got increased. As far as damage I can't say for sure I didn't pay that much attention.

I might go bow when the game goes live, not because it's OP which I personally don't believe, but because I've always liked playing archers and do in almost any game that allows it.

I don't want to tell you how many times I've gotten killed using a bow. There are counters to the range issue, unfortunately. [I was soooooo missing my smithed to the max dragonbone bow from Skyrim.] And the range isn't as far as I would like, to be truthful.

It might be worse in pve; the enemies seem to know where you are, and head straight for you after you shoot them, even from stealth.

I said I've been thinking it for a while. Meaning observing it's use in beta etc. You mean to water down my argument for putting a link in Youtube for rather well made test about different dmg types.

Why not comment my arguments though?

I met quite a few DKs that curbstomped my NB archer. They didn't seem to mind the bow so much.

It's the classic: Buff scissors, nerf rock, paper is fine.

What arguments? Still waiting on those ...

If you mean your statements, they did comment. They said you were wrong and asked for proof. You listed a youtube video.

I found that video highly amusing for some reason. Sneaking around Cyrodiil just to do test shots. Looks like often he even tried just backing out of combat right away, too.

As for bow I think the two things that are going to make it a staple weapon in Cyrodiil for many is this:

1. In zerg blob vs. zerg blob, it is safer to fire from your blob from range.

2. Getting sneak attacks, or just hitting anything in general, is much easier with a bow. Reigns mentioned the lag, which is true. Trying to hit anything with melee if it is laggy is nearly impossible, while using a bow it is easier.

In other words, I think even if you were to cut bow damage in half, it will still be a favored weapon. I don't know what the "fix" should be, or if anything even needs to be fixed at all, but damage isn't really the concern.

Sooner or later, just about everyone will be level 15 or higher, capable of two weapon sets. For most, one will be some kind of ranged, the other will be some melee for close-quarters, and folks will have plenty of skill points to level up both. Why is this even shocking?

I agree about bows continuing to be favored, even if nerfed. Everyone will use ranged until close, then switch, except for folks who want to use two types of melee.

Huh? I don't understand what you are saying.

Err. Now I see the edit. Yes, that is what I meant, that I'm not sure damage is even the concern. People are going to be running around with bows no matter what. And with weapon swap, for nearly everyone it is kind of a given.

You could make 2h swords automatic one-hit kills, but it doesn't change the fact that you are at the bottom of a wall getting pelted with arrows. Or if you go charging into an enemy zerg blob and get insta-killed.

I heard my cat the other day tell me that nerf to Khajiits is only a cosmetic nerf. They're still OP to other classes.

On youtube the other day it showed the nerf to Khajiits is only a cosmetic nerf. They're still OP to other classes.

I should make crazy arguments like this too if it's that easy.

Me? If so, what do I need to explain further?

Edit: I think most folks will have some kind of ranged weapon, because even nerfed damage at range is better than no damage at range. Or they will roll something like a DK who can snatch you up and bring you into melee range quickly.
