Boxing Championship

Post » Tue Jun 08, 2010 3:48 am

With the threads covering almost every aspect of the game, i did not come across anything fight competition related.

Seeing as New Vegas is the place to be when it comes to gambling, i figured it would only be logical that there will be some sort of organised fighting where you can place bets, or get a high enough Unarmed skill, and participate in the competitions yourself.
In my opinion, arena fights are somewhat iconic to post-apocalyptic struggle.

Perhaps the fights will be more civil than the arena style fighting done in The Hole (DLC The Pitt) using boxing gloves and going for knock-outs.

Anyone know if something similar will be available in Fallout New Vegas?

inB4Reno.

Nah, I wouldn't mind it really, would make great for roleplaying.
But then there should be several boxing rings in several towns.

Well, they invented the non-lethal methods of dealing with people for some reasons, didn't they? Including this one most probably :D

Why didn't you play The Pitt?
Was easily the best one out of all five.

Heard New Vegas was coming, decided to spend money on that...Is it better than the main F3 story? Point lookout was my favorite DLC, I guess i'll watch the Pitt online.

Well I don't know how your financial situation is but if you ever get the money for it you should buy it.
It's story, art design, overall gray tone of it is just great in so many ways.
Man I wish Pitt would be it's own Fallout game, it's that good.
But it is rather short if you decide to rush it, which you shouldn't. ;)

Easily the best one? What are you talking about, surely the best one is Point Lookout.

Nah Point Lookout was a great DLC but not top 1 material.
It had a big area of nothing in it, while it had great art design and those quests it did have were pretty good it also failed with other design decisions.
Basically, it was like a piece of toasted bread which had too little peanut butter on it.
While Pitt was a smaller piece of bread it had more than enough peanut butter on it so one could actually taste it.

Pitt satisfied me.
Point lookout, while it filled my tummy it left my mouth dry.

(Does this anology/metaphor make sense to anyone?)

Theredchord93 Yeah it's my personal favorite too. Love it the most out of all the DLC's.

Any fighting outside New Vegas should then be undergound no rules fighting. Deathmatches, with weapons. Making the boxing matches exclusive to New Vegas.

Yes, i saw those boxing gloves, and they made me wonder...

Then again, now that i think about it, knockout fights sound rather boring in the Fallout setting compared to Deathmatches.

This Pitt > Point Lookout

To think otherwise means:

Your Intelligence = Swampfolk.

Naw, they were BOTH great, I just loved the dark industrial feel of The Pitt. I also liked the roleplaying progression of the pitt better: become a slave, fight your way out, lead the revolution (Or squash it). Lord Ashur was also one of the most interesting characters in Fallout IMO. The Pitt also added to the original game because it gave the raiders more of an identity.

EDIT
@ OP

Yes, Would like a boxing championship. Make it similar to fable style where it's like a whole underground organization and you keep getting tougher fights.

It'd be interesting to see an option to complete the boxing championship without directly competing in it... Maybe you've built a diplomat or scientist or other non-combat based character... Having the option to enter the arena and invest in a "Designated Hitter"... Maybe you have to do a little quest to convince the boxer that you mean business... Or mebbe you can just give him enough cash to convince him... You can then watch your sponsored boxer rise through the ranks... Perhaps you botched your quest somehow and he makes it to the third round before being obliterated, or you managed to get him to the final round, when you can choose to sabotage the other fighters chances, or even convince your fighter to take a dive in order to win the BIG cash...

I'd love to see boxing in NV. It was always one of my favorite parts in FO2. In addition to them adding knock-outs it would be a nice homage to the second game.

Id like to see an arena with no ranks, just bets on competitors and you can enter to fight. you lose, you get "knocked out" and wake up outside. you win, you get 100 or so caps. Unarmed weapons only. bladed gauntlet vs. brass knuckles FTW.

I never played Fallout 2... but now that you mention that, im almost positive boxing will be present in Fallout New Vegas... those boxing gloves should have more purpose than just allowing the player to finish the game without killing anyone, well... at least that is what i hope.

I'd like to know if these were the same writers for the Pitt or a different person. Someone finally slap them with the Plot Stick? and pelt them with The Rock of Inspiration.

On topic: I too hope for a boxing like underground fight cage of sorts: bare knuckles, brass knuckles, boxing gloves, bladed gauntlets, boards, tire irons, any scarp melee weapon really.

And for Pete's sake their better be a CL football stadium for gladitorial combat.

The Pitt was tremendously boring. The trogs weren't fun to kill and I felt the story wasn't that great. I did enjoy the setting though.

I liked Point Lookout the best. Great location. Great side quests and secrets. And Desmond is now one of my favorite characters too. Really, I don't know how anybody could not love Point Lookout. The whole ball tripping scene is just awesome.
