My brain. Can it handle it.

Post » Mon Sep 06, 2010 6:37 am

So on the week that Brink comes out I have to take an MSP test for school (I'm in 8th grade). I take this test on May 9th and May 10th, early in the morning. So I was wondering, would my brain be too fried to play Brink after I got home on May 10th? Or would it be so energized from all the brain usage that my Brink skills would be amazingly epic? I don't think I'm stupid, but I'm no Einstein. I'd say I have average 13 year old brain power. So could my brain handle taking this "HUGE IMPORTANT TEST" then playing hours of Brink when I get home? I'm not sure how hard this test will be, so I don't know how tired my brain will be when I'm done. But I fear my body will want to go and take a nap when I get home instead of playing Brink. And when I wake up it will be very late and past my bedtime, therfore not playing Brink at all on release day. If the test is hard I could always just bomb it so I won't be too tired/stressed and can play Brink all day. But then I may not make it to 9th grade. Thoughts?

Don't bomb a test just to play a videogame for the first day when it will be out and active for years (hopefully). Your job is to be a student so you can get the job you want and will be happy with (and don't say you are doing sports, that's so gimmicky).

If you know proper test taking strategy, then you probably won't ruin your brain for the day taking one test. Tests are not that stressful, they are just a way to see if you retained what you learn. Also, those mandatory government tests are insanely easy compared to the ones that are done for colleges.

I think if anything, BRINK will be the perfect thing after these two tests, it's a game you're clearly looking forward too, which, I think it's safe to say, will also be a very good game. After you're done your testing, gaming will be the perfect thing, to take away all that accumulated stress, and literally just take your mind off of everything. Fried or energized, it will be good to play.

This topic is going to be a conflicting, writhing, mass of honest advisors and huge trolls. Beware.

Personally I'd say do your tests as well as possible. Then, Brink can wait. It's not going to grow legs and run off in the space of a day or two. Ultimately you'll enjoy it more if you're fresh rather than tired, and the first time you play a game (especially Brink) is always a precious moment. ^_^

Simply play the challenges and campaign first, then the multiplayer a few days later.

Wait until your tests are over and then play 12 hours straight. I have to wait until May 26th to play; I have A-levels.

Take your tests. Then enjoy Brink.
You'll do better on your tests and it will make Brink that much better for you when you are done.

after the test your brain will totally be hyper-functioning, it probably will make you play better, if your brain is still in "think" mode

it'll be like The Green Hornet

SnowPatrol i hate you :P May 26th, my exams don't finish till June 27th (A Levels aswell) You in first or second year? I'm in my second year and although my exams don't finish till then i don't care because i only need to average 40% in all my exams to get to the Uni i applied to. I did so well in the first year that i only need 40% in my exams to get C's in all subjects, and even though i'm an A student i honestly don't care when i only need 3 C's to get into uni lol.

Anyway, i say take your tests. You won't be tired, and hell if you do get tired after doing a test i would be worried. I go into tests with less energy than i come out with, sitting down in one area with just some paper and the silence as my company is a great way to build up energy and when you come out you will really want to release that energy so brink is ideal. Treat it as a reward, do your exams and do your best, then have brink to enjoy after!

I'm facing an even worse dilemma: I get my hands on Brink on the 10th, and then I have my Chem 2 final on the 12th. Anyone who says that avoiding Brink to study for those 2 days won't be hard isn't human... :cryvaultboy:

I can't comment on studying. I don't do it :P I'm too lazy, i sit down with a book and i just can't do it. Could also have something to do with the way my brain is connected up..... to whatever it is that powers them? BATTERIES, MORE BATTERIES!

Anyway, yeah i have no doubt that studying will be bad. Chem is pretty hard, i dropped Chem to do Physics (doesn't make that much sense when you consider Physics is actually a harder subject than Chem, even if it is only mildly harder) So yeah, good luck with the studying man :)

okay seriously man.. DO NOT purposely fail the test. Try your best.. and all throughout school. (1-12). I've never really been brain fried to where I couldn't play a game. so trust me you should be completely fine.. If you're a bit pooped.. Perhaps go out and have a nice dinner, then come home and play for a few hours before bed. Trust me, I will put video games first, but do not purposely fail the test.. Stupid stupid move.

Good luck on the test :trophy:

I'd say take the test, do what you can. You have years ahead of you that can be used for nearly anything you want. Tests are important though, more important than any video game. I'm a senior, graduating this week at my school, and going off to college in the fall and my tests got me in to the college for FREE: books, room, and I get to go to Italy and other countries for a month for free. I see why you want to just say, "Forget it, BRINK is all I'm focused on." since I'm a gamer myself (I'm even making one in my free time) but again, the game isn't going to go anywhere, you have the day after to play your heart out and take it easy (I know I am as soon as my store gets them in and my shift is over, I love working at the local GameStop). So, TGP, do your best, ignore the trolls that will eventually flame this topic (and maybe us that gave advice), and I hope you pass. Enjoy life, TGP.

I figure if I study every weekday and play all weekend I'll be fine.

I'm just glad they moved the release back a week. It was slated to be between my two days of graduation testing :cryvaultboy:
