Brand new issues with new Beth forums

Post » Fri Jun 03, 2016 10:56 pm

Well, Joy is an obvious one that none would type on that forum. Better restrict it. :shifty:

So mods are out on consoles now?

The problem is that this has been occurring for me prior to the Xbox mod releases. I have been receiving an insane amount of "can't reach Bethesda.net" messages and other types of errors for quite some time now.

The blank page problems have been happening since the latest maintenance I believe. The difficulty making any comments in threads or replying has been an issue since the launch of the new site. The site has been incredibly sluggish as well to the point where I feel like I'm back on a crappy elementary school computer with AOL (other websites, including this one, work absolutely fine).

I've never encountered such a poorly designed website with such an insane amount of problems. My old clan forums back in the early days of Halo PC had better designs and functionality. That's absolutely ridiculous.

Wait...words like Joy, and van, and fist are restricted? What is their reasoning behind that?

The more I hear about the new forums, the less and less I think I'll migrate over there when this CD is eventually shut down.

Yeah, the forums I set-up using some generic forum making site for my old FFXI Sky/Sea Linkshell was easier to use then what I've observed of the new Beth.net forums.

Ha, I still have my old clan forums too. Some invisionfree thing or something, and yeah, even they work better than Bethesda.net! xD

No, it was never meant for this job to begin with. It's a wrong tool for the job, like using a smartphone as a hammer. You can, but OH MY GOD STOP DOING THAT!

Technical issues aside, it's also full of [censored]s, so the moderation tools must be as "awesome" as the rest ot it :teehee:

*snorts*

I suddenly see the value of locking threads after 200 posts.

Yep. The main forum feedback thread there has now reached 70 pages. On top of this, I don't seem to be getting notifications anymore about activity in that thread, which I am "following". So I have to scroll through to see new comments. Sure, I can go three pages at a time, but it's still frustrating.

On the question about those restricted words...no one has given an explanation for it. There was one time when a monitor gave a vague explanation for one word, saying that it's something that has been known to be used in bad/dirty kind of ways, but...seriously? What are the chances of people on a gaming forum, or most normal people, misusing such a word? (I am forgetting what the word was.) I do believe that the list of restricted words was probably built in to the Jive software, so it's a legacy feature that may be tricky to fix (though I know nothing about this type of stuff; not a programmer, personally).

Really is unfortunate that in order to really talk about any Fallout games, we need to use the broken site. Sure, people could probably make threads in here, in the general discussion forum, but I bet you they'd get locked and we'd be encouraged to redirect ourselves to the new site. Bleck.

Since you don't seem to be able to delete your notifications, if you uncheck "unread only", you can use old notifications to get close to the end of the thread. If it's a horribly long thread, that you haven't posted in though... well.... hope your fingers have good stamina.

having some manner of text editor for PMs would be nice too......

Unfortunately, the notification inbox does not allow me to enter the thread itself at any given post#. I only have the option of starting at the beginning of the thread.

For me, it loads the first post, and then the last 3-5 or so.

I have no interest in Reddit, especially since i only want so many online accounts. I prefer legitimate forums, as well, not social media sites (I barely even use Facebook anymore; why would I use Reddit?)

Reddit is not a "thing" as far as I'm concerned. Reddit is an obnoxious, combative, confrontational, playground for juvenile bullies who would rather engage in verbal food fights than reasoned debate. It is no substitute for a real, honest-to-goodness, civilized forum where thoughtful advlts engage in thoughtful conversation.

Because Reddit doesn't run on Jive? :P I tend to pop on Reddit every once in a while to check on things, but rarely post there.

I had no issues with the sub reddits I've been too. But if you want to chat about Fallout online it's either Reddit, Jive or Gamefaqs(which is worse than anything). And as soon as these forums go they are going to be the only populated places where you can go.

Looking at some of the treads in these forums, "Thoughtful conversation" is not the word that I'll use for them.

20 posts would be more appropriate on the new forum as it quickly gets tiring to figure out where the discussion has resumed since the last time one viewed a topic.

I actually find reddit to be worse than gamefaqs in most cases.. gamefaqs isn't great, but i find it to be slightly more civil than reddit..

I guess there is also the steam forums, but they are really bad as well (people constantly saying stuff like "this game has a console version? it svcks because of it, stop putting console games out, PC master race, hahaha!" and "if you touch a console, you are a blight on the industry go die".. as someone who plays on both PCs and consoles, it just makes me facepalm)..

My experiences were different, but they could have been that we just went to different games. The only Reddit page that I frequent for updates that is downright horrible is the Star Wars Galaxy one, nothing but 30 year olds throwing tantrums. But ESO, Swtor, Lotro, GW2, AO, Stardew... they are all fine.

Yeah the Steam forums are really bad, these were really the only forums that I could say that I liked despite there being "seasons" where things would get facepalmy, but my motivation to post anything has been dwindling since it was announced that they were moving.

..Maybe I'm just getting old, :P If I want to talk about a game I just chat in a group chat I have in Telegram with 3 other friends!

The Steam forums are terrible, followed by reddit.com.

The interesting thing is the gog.com forums have no moderation at all and are more civilized and people there are more respectful, there is every once in a while the bad person or disrespectful person though.

Why don't we just... y'know... stick to these forums? That work? And have nothing wrong with them? At all?
