I was wondering if anyone can tell me (or point me to a guide maybe) the general idea about breaking down ammo at a bench. Repair is one of my tag skills (although I'm only about 4 hours in and have it at like, 40 I think so far) and at the bench the only thing I am able to do is break down ammo. I also have tons of empty magazines and cases that I'm not sure what to do with. I tried breaking down one thing just to see if it would give me components to make other stuff...but everything is still grayed out. How do I know what to break down and what to keep? Does this work the way I am thinking it does? Sorry for the noob questions. -Meg
As a rule, breaking down an ammo type gives you components necessary to make other ammo types. Specifically the primers and stuff. Primers are restricted to similar ammo types, while cases are limited to a SPECIFIC weapon type. As a rule, to make one kind of ammo, you will need to break down a similar type of ammo. For example, 10mm and .44 magnum are both "large pistol ammo" and as a result yeild large pistol primers and pistol powder. You will need cases for the type of ammo you are creating, which you can get from vendors (usually for 0 caps), from people you fight, or from firing your own weapon. to get all the lead you'll probably need to break down a scrap metal or two as well.
