No breath meter underwater in Skyrim?

Post » Sun Sep 25, 2011 2:27 am

So, in SammiiDoogles hands on thread from eurogamer expo he say's he played a Nord and was underwater for a long time and never had to resurface for air. There wasnt even a breath meter. He mentioned that apparently Argonians don't have that racial trait anymore since everyone seems to be able to breath underwater.

WTF?! Bethesda what are you doing there?!

Can someone ask Pete what's with that or something?

It leaves me pretty speechless.

Guess it was too much of a nuisance for their new target group. 2-year-olds, perhaps.

I'm sure we can't breathe underwater. They've just decided to take away the HUD part of it and make it more natural. The player gasps loudly when returning to the surface after being underwater for a longer time, so I definitely think we can't breathe underwater, just like in previous games.

I like it not having an oxygen meter. I don't like... HUD :P

Didn't he say he was playing an Argonian?

EDIT: NM, just way the twitter answer. For serious? Infinite breathe? Or is there some visual representation of running out of air other than the meter?

Demo is demo. For all we know, they turned it off for the showing so people could explore underwater if they so pleased. Basically, what I'm saying, is there's no point in getting bent out of shape over something that has a 0.00000000000001% of making it into the game without proof.

Just because there's no meter doesn't mean you cant drown. Maybe the implemented something different in Skyrim.

What the hey hey?!

I don't understand this. I'm not sure if he's being too vague about it or if it's just that. Everyone can breath underwater. I don't get this at all.

I hope so.

Not really. My guess is that if you stay under too long, you'll start making gulping sounds, then start blacking out if you don't surface.

"The School of Alteration involves the manipulation of the physical world and its natural properties. This skill makes it easier to cast spells like Waterbreathing, magical protection, and Paralysis."

Confusing.

Yeah, but his answer couldn't really be anymore vague. That just means there's no bar. Doesn't mean that your character won't start choking and make you go "Oh, wait. People need to breathe."

Okay, so waterbreathing is in and apparently there is no meter but you still drown?

I'm trying to remain calm so this helps. Is there any way to confirm that you can still drown except for Argonians?
