Brena River Ravine 1.5

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 1:10 am

Hello everyone!

For those of you who know me, great, for those of you who don't, you probably shouldn't anyways because I'm not that important.

Anyways, if you couldn't tell by the poster name, I am IAMTHEEMPEROR, and a loooooong while back I took over a mod called Unique Landscapes: Brena River Ravine. Like my predecessor on that mod, I stopped working on it for the longest time, at which point Arthmoor, who is a very good man, finished it up for me so it was playable as it was in it's current state. Much thanks to Arthmoor, because he shouldn't have had to finish where this idiot (I) left off.

I came back a while after the mod's release and played with it, but was slightly depressed because it was missing a lot of things that I would have liked to put in there, but didn't. So I began adding the things I had wanted to include, because I thought my ideas were neat and pretty (at least they seem that way to me), and I revamped just a few different places. About halfway through my working on it, I thought that I might actually release my version of the mod. I debated with this quite a bit, because the last thing I wanted to do was offend Arthmoor or anyone else who was working with Unique Landscapes, if it seemed like I was taking credit away from Arthmoor for actually finishing it (It became his mod after all). But that was almost a year ago.

A few months after my conundrum, I decided that I would probably release it. But actually finishing it came first, and I worked for a long time on it. I added a good deal of new content; content that I probably shouldn't have, and, well, I don't quite want to say the workload was too much, but I found myself busy with other things and stopped working on it yet again.

Which brings me to today. I remembered the sad, unfinished Brena River Ravine sitting in the corner of my hard drive, and became disappointed with myself for never finishing what I had started...again. And I poked through the mod, and realized that a lot of stuff I had added in had no real purpose being there at all. I tried adding too much, and the mod deviated from its original purpose; to bring beauty to a section of the world that didn't have any. And so, it is today that I present you with a half-finished, yet fulfilled mod made by Arthmoor, chuck21, and I.

You may feel free to play it. If you are upset by my decision to release what has become someone else's work, please say so. If you don't want to play it, I wouldn't hold it against you. But it is what it is, and I just wanted to say: I'm Sorry.

I'll be checking my messages on here for the next few weeks or so. If you find any problems with it, you can tell me here or on TESNexus where I will be uploading it. For everything else, you can read the description on TESNexus.

EDIT: Mod removed. Don't want people following broken links :P

Arthmoor released an amazing Brena River Ravine. While you may have started it, he did the bulk of the work and crafted a brilliant UL. I'm not sure I altogether approve of your comments above that seem to intimate his version is somehow inferior when you yourself abandoned it in the first place, not once but twice.

I think I would feel less insulted on his behalf had you gone about this "release" differently. Perhaps through the RELz UL thread and Arthmoor in particular.

Regardless, I will be sticking with the current UL as I find it brilliant, beautiful and a perfect addition to my landscape. :D

If you wanted to revisit this then you should have picked up where YOU left off when you abandoned it the first time and started from there so that the work was yours alone, then released it as something else entirely rather than an unauthorized update to Arthmoor's mod, which will only serve to confuse users. What you've done here is bad form, and you know it is too, hence all the apologies and tiptoeing around feelings in your statement. In general, if you have to start a release with an apology to the guy you're stomping on to do so, you probably shouldn't release, that's just common sense.

If I downloaded a different UL and I didn't like some things about it so I changed it, then uploaded it as an unauthorized update to the original I would get tarred and feathered by ths community and the UL Team, and you likely will too. Do the honorable thing and shut this down. If you want to update the UL mod, then talk to Arthmoor and the UL folks and do it properly through the polite channels. <_<

Edit:

Releasing someone's work, changing a feature, and claiming it as your own is NOT kosher.

The main thing here for me is respect. Arthmoor is a very active, and wonderful, modder and took over your project when you decided to abandon it. Now you come back and pick it up when it is no longer your mod anymore. I have to agree with the post above that you should have gone back to the way the mod was before you abandoned it and built it from there. Now you are just piggy backing of the hard work that Arthmoor put into a mod that you left behind with an unofficial update that was most likely not tested by Arthmoor or the UL team.

I am sure Arthmoor wont really care all that much, but for me it seems like you went over his head and that kind of gets me mad.

To clarify, I did consult the UL team prior to this release. But with enough negative feedback, I've taken it down. It's alright, I'm sorry.

Maybe things can sorted out, somehow. Because I'm curious as to see what changes were made in-game so I can see for myself. I hope that's not being too selfish.

I really don't understand people's overtly moralising attitude towards Iamtheemperor. I mean isn't the mod a collaboration of multiple modders to begin with? Of course it would be rather confusing having two ULs of the same area. Therefore I think it would be wisest for IATE to continue his work where he finished it and release as a completely separate mod.

give the guy a break, it's not like he came in here saying "damn you arthmoor you screwed up my mod" . he thanked the guy for the work done, and then said that he wanted the mod to have something else added which Arthmoor, not being inside his mind, obviously couldn't add

I'm sure you two fine people can get together and make an amazing UL even more amazing :)

Please don't keep posting comments on your opinions of IAMTHEEMPEROR, whether negative or positive.
The last contact Arthmoor had with IAMTHEEMPEROR was back in November, when IAMTHEEMPEROR had made some improvements and changes to Brena River Ravine based on the version Arthmoor released, but then stated that he was again abandoning the mod - leaving his latest WIP in Arthmoor's hands to make use of as he wished. Since then we have not had contact with him as far as I am aware, but would be happy for IAMTHEEMPEROR to contact us again to see if we can come to any form of agreement.

I would suggest that this thread be locked now.

IAMTHEEMPEROR has said that he has taken the mod down so there is no need for others to keep niggling at this.

If the parties concerned want to come to an agreement away from these boards then that is fine, but this thread is staying closed.
