Brentons sound like nerdy little geeks

Post » Thu Sep 30, 2010 1:23 pm

Now I remember why I stopped playing this character race: I couldn't stand listening to their whining death cries.

I know some kid tried to fix this, but the voices ended up sounding like a kid trying to sound like an advlt.

Has anyone else ever figured a way to make the Brenton player character sound like less of an effeminate sissy? I don't give a hoot how the NPCs sound.

It seems that one could take the MP3s from \Morrowind\Data Files\Sound\Vo\b\m and drop the pitch with a program such as Audacity. A 7% drop in pitch adds significant testosterone levels to the cries of this particular character. Puberty is in reach for the foppish Brenton!!!

LATERZ:
I ended up dropping the pitch of the Brenton hit sounds 12%, which makes them sound more manly, but not unnatural. The developers should have had one set of sounds for NPCs, and other for the player character. It's funny when your enemy squeals like a pig, but not so much when it's you doing the squealing!

You sure got a purdy mouth....

Oh, editing the game sounds with Audacity is EASY. A monkey could do it. I'm living proof. I am a monkey.

Are you kidding me? The female Dunmer is my favorite voice set from that game, to the point that I was okay with all the elves sounding like her in Oblivion :P

Maybe not Fligg's best work, but definitely the most memorable :D

I like the helium-filled Bosmer female voices. I feel like I'm talking to a balloon. I dunno. It just cracks me up.

I never noticed the Breton being anything special but I suppose they have an unusual affectation, still, I really would not want all the races having the same sound, I guess I am lucky to enjoy ranges rather then be rankled by them.

Ok, so, I'm kinda curious, what exactly is the purpose of this topic, except that we now know your opinion on Breton's feminine voices?

Mentioning audacity, you plan to remake them, or you want someone else to remake them, or you just felt like mentioning it? Because if it's the latter, this pretty much doesn't belong in here.

So many delicate little flowers....

I thought it annoying, the way the BRETONS sound AS PLAYER CHARACTERS. At first, I was hoping to find a mod to address it, as at least one person had done already. After starting the thread, I thought of a fix myself, and I fixed it MYSELF. Later, I described what I used to make the change. Now, anyone who hates a particular sound in the game might see fit to change it with Audacity.

Boo hoo hoo....

So do you actually plan to release this thing of yours, or?

The Breton voices arguably have more personality than the Nord or Imperial ones, albiet more anoying, but it would actualy be far cheesier to have ALL the male human voices be deep. However I hope that one of the engine rewrites will allow for races to have multiple voice profiles so that not all bretons would have to sound like that... :turtle:

Would not be as big problem as recording all the voices..

I didn't really think of it like that: Here's my mod, download it. Rather, I was suggesting how anyone could change their own game with a simple piece of free software--if they were as annoyed as I was by the existing voice acting. Doing so was easy; anyone could do the same.

I guess if I felt I made some big contribution, I'd make a "mod," but it seems such a petty little thing to me (granted it fixes something I don't find petty in the least).

Actually, even a mod that seems "petty" or simple or is something that anyone could do in 5 minutes with the CS can still be worth releasing. My first mod, Ajira's Alchemy Reports, contains only two changes that affect her two reports. I didn't hesitate to release it just because it was trivial. It's had over 170 downloads and some people seem to love it. You just never know what's going to pique someone's interest.

And I agree with you, Audacity is cool.
