Brethren of Steel

Well I thought for my first post on this forum I'd post something I've been working on for a little while. It may include the occasional spoiler to the game's storyline. Comments and criticism welcome ...

You forgot initiate at the beginning. :P

Few errors:

"Eldar Lyons" is "Elder Lyons"

"Paladin Baal" is "Paladin Bael" because I know that's who you're talking about.

Thanks for the quick reply. I guess I should have checked the first to.

Ah, the thing is I was intending to use an unnamed Paladin and had just made the name up. I know who you mean, I completely forgot about him. I guess I should change the name since they're quite similar.

Good story, and I'm interested to see how it goes. I haven't read a BoS one in a while, actually, which is surprising.

Thanks guys, glad you liked it.

@outcast slayer: it's ironic you should say that...

Now I have a question, I've almost written enough for an update, about 1000 words or so, but my question is where would you like this to go? I was originally intending to have the doing missions around the Wasteland and D.C area with hints at what the Lone Wanderer has done. But I think it could be interesting to send them off to another city entirely to recover something or someone. So what do you think?

Personally, I'd like to see them going around the D.C ruins and getting caught up in all the chaos around there, like the Super Mutants and the few BoS quests like Water-Caravan guarding and the Lost Initiate one.

Or, there's always Fort Bannister. Get them involved in the takeover of the place.

Alot of people like to head into the D.C./Mall ruins with their stories. (Ive even resorted to that myself even though there aren't any Super Mutants, BOS or Enclave there yet. :vaultboy:). I think the reason for this is the never ending three-way-battle (plus robots and ghouls and ex slaves to spice it up) that our heroes walk right into the middle of makes for instant carnage (just add water). But its just a thought.
.
By the way, nice BOS story. Your actually (suprisingly since you would expect more competition with BOS) original with them. Really I just like this story, though...
I like the way rank effects their relationships and even how they speak to each other. You have done well.
Please continue...

Chapter 1

The Citadel
August 15th 2277
0745 Hours

Squire. Initiate. Knight. Paladin. Sentinel. Elder. The ranks of the Brotherhood were etched into his brain, how he longer to climb the ladder and become a hero. Today was, thankfully, his first step to achieving such a dream. He was to don his Power Armour for the first time and take the rank of Knight, joining his brethren out in the Capitol Wasteland. He had been placed under the command of Paladin Danti and tasked to patrol the area around the Washington Monument, watching out for bands of Super Mutants. As it was Knight Mattias sat on his bed, elbows on knees contemplating the task ahead ? even he had heard the widespread phrase 'join the Brotherhood of Steel and you'll be dead within the week.' Hopefully, it wouldn't apply to him.

"Brother, are you ready? We're all waiting." Mattias startled by the sudden voice; his fellow Knight Gabral was stood in the doorway, he, like Mattias, wore only a black bodysuit that was intended to be wore under their Power Armour. Mattias nodded with a nervous smile "Yes, of course." He got up and followed Gabral down the corridor toward the armoury. It was an odd journey for Mattias. Squires moved out of the pair's way in respect to their rank, Squires who until a week ago had been Mattias' friends and equal. But now they were separated by rank.

They descended the stairs to the Armoury; they were met by the last four members of their unit: Danti, Rikel, Braail and Urim. Each nodded in respect as the pair entered, they returned the gesture. Paladin Danti was already wearing his armour, his helmet held in the crook of his arm. "Now we're all here," he started with a smile "Elder Lyons has tasked us to patrol the area around the Washington Monument. Recently the GNR dish was blasted from the spire by a group of Muts, but they won't be our only problem. Reports from the guard stationed there suggest that Raiders have begun moving into the territory, so I suggest you keep your eyes open. Understood?" Every man in the room nodded. "Good, now kit up." As ordered each of the men present began donning their armour, as Mattias began the suit's weight felt alien and new. He guessed it would take a while to get used to the armour. Within five minutes they were all armoured and ready to go.

The courtyard of the Citadel was full of Squires and Initiates training under the watchful eye of Paladin Gunny, Mattias winced as he remembered some of the instructing he had received from Gunny; by hell the man could scream. This time he simply received a solemn nod from his mentor; by the gate stood Scribe Rothchild deep in conversation with Sentinel Lyons and Star Paladin Cross, Seneschal to Elder Lyons. The group stood just short of Rothchild, Danti stepped forward. "We're all ready, even the new boy. See you all soon, say seven days or so." Rothchild nodded and tapped his chest with a fist, in respect. "Lyons requests that you go via the GNR station, Three Dog is worried about increased sightings of Super Mutants; that and the fact that another building collapsed in the D.C ruins, cutting off the direct route to the Monument. You'll have to travel north from here to Farragut West Metro Station and go underground, shouldn't be too hard until you get to GNR. If the situation warrants, call for back up and we'll send in Lyon's Pride." Danti nodded in confirmation and ordered his squad out of the Citadel.

Mattias first sight of the Capitol Wasteland was of a ruined cityscape, with the sound of distant gunfire and screams. Even the wind carried a faint taste of blood; it almost made him want to be sick. "Alright men, we got a long walk ahead of us. Remember watch each other's back and we'll all be fine. Oh and as you know we have a new squad member, Mattias. Please, welcome him like a brother." Mattias looked round at the assembled group each face wore a smile, stern but accepting. "Ok, let's go. Combat readiness at all times until we reach GNR. Move out." With that Mattias unhooked his helmet from his belt and put it on. He was momentarily blind before the suits' systems kicked in. He drew his Laser Rifle and followed the rest of the unit as they began a journey that was bound to be fraught with danger.

*

It had been less than an hour since they left the Citadel and already Mattias was crouched behind a concrete barrier, out of the way of enemy bullets. He was about to look over the barrier for a target when tracer fire chipped away the top of the concrete. The Raiders had them pinned; good thing they don't have heavier weapons; as the thought ran through his head a wash of flame licked Urim's armour, receiving a startled cry from his brother. Mattias grabbed a Frag Grenade and primed it for two seconds, he threw it and waited. The blast was harmonized with a cry of pain, as if it was a cue Rikel bounded the barricade and ripped two more Raiders apart with his Minigun. The rest of the unit followed them and began searching for targets now that the tide had turned. Mattias spotted one hiding behind a rocky outcrop, he could just make out a shot at the Raider's shoulder; he took it. The Raider fell with a silent scream upon his lips. After that it didn't take long for the rest of the men to finish off the rest of the Raider pack.

"Raiders," Danti looked at Mattias "Walk in the park, boy. You held your own then, but wait 'til you meet the Enclave or the Muts then we'll see what kind of soldier you really are." From anyone else Mattias would have been insulted, but from a seasoned veteran like Danti he could take it.
"If you say so, sir." Braail came and slapped him across the shoulders,
"Still that was a bloody fine shot." Mattias smiled, Braail was the joker of the group, he could tell already after being with the squad for an hour. He tried to make light of everything and everyone. Urim was sterner; he worked himself with zeal. When he was at the Citadel he was rarely out of the courtyard training. Rikel was the quiet one, he didn't often speak even when spoken to, either choosing to ignore the speaker or answer in a way that didn't involve words. Gabral had warmed to Mattias the most; he seemed open and cared about all his brethren in the unit. But Danti was another matter entirely, Mattias couldn't read him, it was as if his face was made of stone. Well technically speaking, all of their faces were made of metal whilst they wore their helmets.

It didn't take them long to discover the Raider's camp, it was a collection of shacks a bit further down the coast. Since its previous occupants were dead the place was deserted. Danti turned to Urim and Gabral "Check inside, make sure there's no one left. Anything you find that could be useful, take it. Hurry up about it. The rest of us don't want to stand around in the open too long." They nodded and went about their task, noisily kicking down the shack doors and sweeping the room with their rifles before going in to take a closer look. Within minutes the shacks had been searched, the two Brotherhood warriors had come back with little more than some cans of irradiated food, dirty water and a couple of Stimpacks. Not a lot.

They moved on, moving closer and closer to their objective. Personally, Mattias' objective was to get back to the Citadel, and get past his first week as a front line trooper of the Brotherhood. He felt that if he could do that, he could do anything. It was a strange experience being part of a patrol; everyone was focused on the mission. You had little to talk about with the other members of your squad; you already knew where they came from: the Citadel; you knew where they lived: the Citadel; and you knew what they did for a living, because you did the same thing. Of course Mattias listened to them talk and joke about their past experiences but he couldn't do that yet, he hadn't fought beside them, bled beside them in some cases. He was still an outsider; he didn't share their bond of brotherhood. Hopefully, he would soon.

His reverie was broken by a flicker of movement in the corner of his eye. He glanced over; rifle ready; nothing, just the river. But something must have moved, he moved closer to the edge to check. He couldn't see anything. "Oi, New Boy! Why the hell did you see fit to break formation?" Mattias turned around.
"Sorry, sir." He began to move back into formation before he felt a something grab his ankle and pull him over the walkway.

-----------------------------------

Thanks for the comments and input, I'll keep them travelling through the D.C ruins then.

@ goris the scholar - Wow thanks, I appreciate that, thanks a lot.

Also, just a quick note. I changed Baal to Danti.

I am loving this story. You can feel the reason they call themselves "Brotherhood". Their words express tones and facial expressions behind their "metal faces."
I'm glad you were able to decide a direction for the heroes. Now you can weave your tale. I will keep an eye out for more of this. It is classic BOS.
.
PS I was partially inspired to write http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?act=findpost&pid=14835450 by what I read here. I realized that the event had to be bad enough to 'seal the deal' but not enough to make the Outcasts and the BOS into enemies. Thank you for your input.
.
PPS I imagine Danti (being equated with Baal) to have his name pronounced like Dante' (dawn-tay) who is onna my fav authors

That's what I was shooting for (makes a change - it's usually a Super Mutant ;) ). Maybe I picked it up from writing too much about other Power Armoured warriors...

PS I was partially inspired to write Schism: Discension by what I read here. I realized that the event had to be bad enough to 'seal the deal' but not enough to make the Outcasts and the BOS into enemies. Thank you for your input.

I read that particular piece, it's what made me comment in your thread. I'm glad you enjoyed this enough to feel inspired. The ironic thing is Schism has inspired me to keep going so thanks for that.
.
That's how I pronounced it, I just didn't want to use the actual name so I mutated it. Fitting for the context.

Also, as of tomorrow I will be away until the 25th so I won't be able to write more until then. So I shall return when I am able. Just don't think I've abandoned this work.

Chapter 2

Underwater in River Potomac
August 15th 2277
0907 Hour
s

The strength of the tide seemed to be doing everything possible to hinder him in his underwater dual with the creature. The Mirelurk had pulled him under and had tried to rip his armour clean open and extract the meaty sustenance inside; all the while the tide was moving Mattias onward, much faster than his brothers could move. If I make out of this I’ll be alone. How the hell was I going to get back the Citadel? His thoughts were all dark, like many of those born at the Citadel Mattias hadn’t stepped outside its’ great walls into the dangers of the Wasteland until today. He may as well have been blindfolded as well; it wouldn’t have hindered his knowledge of his surroundings. As it was he had more pressing concerns to deal with.

The Mirelurk hammered at his chest plate, he felt it strain and begin to crack under the blows. He head butted the beast, its’ hold didn’t loosen. He tried again and again to no effect. He kicked and head butted until his limbs were sore, to no avail. He couldn’t summon the strength underwater, at this rate he would die. The Mirelurk’s claw clamped around his neck, slowly crushing the life from him; it seemed death would come sooner rather than later. He desperately tried to prise the claw open with his hands; even with his armour’s enhancements he could move it.

Fear welled up inside him, threatening to paralyse his limbs and prevent him defending himself. He fought it just as he fought the Mirelurk, albeit more successfully. He regained control of his limbs and tried again with a renewed vigour. But, his salvation came from a rather surprising source. The pair was pulled around a bend in the river by the powerful tide; a support for an overhead bridge was dead in their path. The Mirelurk crashed into it, knocking it unconscious. Mattias felt the shockwaves and his neck jolted, darkness threatened to overcome him; being free from the Mirelurks’ grasp Mattias gladly walked into the blackness’ open arms.

*
When Mattias awoke he ached all over, he felt groggy and wanted to be sick. He removed his helmet and did so. Looking around, he couldn’t work out where he was. It seemed that after the Mirelurk had let go of him, the tide had washed him up onto the riverbank. Apart from the obvious that he was somewhere along the riverside, he had no clue. Although he did notice a Metro Station not far back down the river. Maybe it was the one he and his squad mates were aiming for? He went to stand up but his vision began to swim and he fell back to the floor. The darkness overcame him once more.

Voices and gunshots were the first sounds he heard as he awoke for the second time. It was night time, the moon was at its’ zenith subtly illuminating the wasteland. It would have been a transfixing sight at any other time; that is a time when bullets aren’t screaming over the space where you are lying. He tried to glance around without drawing attention to himself; it didn’t work, luckily. “Trust you to be asleep on the job, Mattias, leave all the hard work to us.” Mattias glanced up; Braail was stood over him, firing his rifle from the hip.
“What’s happening?”
“Seems like the Muts took an interest in you, lucky for you we got here before you could become dinner.”
“Stop gawping and get up, Mattias! We need every gun we can get!” Danti sounds cheerful; as the thought flashed through his mind he caught his first glimpse of a Super Mutant. The breath got caught in his throat.

It was a huge creature, at least two heads taller than he was, its’ skin was a sickly mustard colour. It was covered in over-developed muscle, its’ fat fingers barely able to squeeze its’ gun trigger. It wore flaps of skin and human skulls as trophies, with slabs of leather acting as armour. At this point Mattias found it impossible to believe that this beast used to be human. Mattias’ first instinct was fear, how the hell can I kill that? His momentary indecision was broken by the extensive training he had received. His next action was to grab his gun and fire, very aware that his helmet was on the floor; his face was open to the elements, and gunfire.

He took a kneeling position and sighted down his rifle. His finger pulled the trigger. The laser blast hit the beast square in the chest, it didn’t seem to affect it; apart from make it angrier. In reply the Mut unleashed a blood chilling roar and fired back. It missed Mattias by an inch and struck Urim in the thigh. “Ah, [censored],” was his answer. Luckily the bullet didn’t penetration his brother’s armour, he would only have a bruise in the days to come. That was, if he survived. Unfortunately, fate wasn’t so kind.

The group of Muts, about three of them, seemed to take this cry as a sign of weakness and all aimed at Urim. One shot flew wide; one hit his shoulder plate whilst the last cut through his weak neck armour and through his throat. Urim fell to the floor clutching his throat; blood was coming out in spurts and his breath escaped him in a flood. They seemed to compete over who’d have the honour of killing Urim; either by blood loss or suffocation. Within seconds he was dead. The loss of a comrade had a visible impact on the rest of the unit, indecision cut through them. It was only the second volley from the Muts that got them fighting again. They fought with a vengeance, their sorrow for their friend turned into a raging force that wanted to see their enemy dead. Taking a lead from the Muts the survivors focused their fire on one Mut at a time, aiming high for their heads. Three laser volleys was all it took; the Muts were dead on the floor. They chucked the bodies in the river, not wishing to lay their sight upon them for a moment more.

As one they turned to Urim’s lifeless body. Danti, as unit leader, crouched beside him and muttered a benediction. He removed Urim’s helmet and gently closed his eyes. It was a haunting sight, Mattias would never forget it. Urim looked at peace, as if he was sleeping; well, that was if you didn’t see the gaping hole in his neck. It was a strange moment, Mattias had barely known Urim, for that matter he barely knew anyone in his squad, but he still felt a sense of loss. He still felt the need to mourn. He’d heard people say that you mourn not for someone’s death but for the fact that they were no longer part of your life. It was definitely true in this case. “How…how long was he in the unit?” He asked, as he finally found his voice.
“Five years, he was soon to be promoted to Captain. Another glittering career cut short by the bastard Wasteland.” Braail replied, his voice was surprisingly stern compared to the usually mocking tones. “Alright lads, we still have a mission to complete, I’ll radio the Citadel; they’ll send someone to collect the body. Meanwhile, Mattias get his Holotag whilst Gabral and Rikel will split his supplies between the rest of us.” They all nodded in assent.

The three of them moved over to the body. Mattias didn’t want to spend long getting the tag, but he didn’t want to be seen as disrespectful. He was quick but reverent; he undid the clasp and gently pulled the tag away. For safe keeping he placed it around his own neck; Scribe Jameson would want to record the details of Urim’s death in the Brotherhood’s Archives. After all the manner of someone’s death was just as important as the manner of someone’s life. Mattias just hoped that his death would be on the battlefield, fighting for the cause of the Brotherhood.

Slightly smaller update this time, wanted to add some suspense...

As you may notice I've moved the chapters so that the parts are in the same post and have linked them at the top. Not really important now, just for when the topic gets onto several pages.

Chapter 3

Farragut West Metro Station
August 15th 2277
1435 Hours

Surprisingly, for an underground tunnel, the Metro Station was well lit. However, Mattias found himself wishing he couldn't see what was down there. Everything was decaying; he was almost worried that the Station would collapse on them at any moment. There were offices down side corridors, full with filing cabinets and the occasional desk, and even rarer a computer terminal. Paint and plaster was falling off the walls in chunks, now I can see why we only use Metros as a last option, it's like hell itself down here, well nearly. We all know the Wasteland is a better example. They were all on their guard; the rest knew what was down here from first hand experience, whilst Mattias had been informed before they entered the Metro: Raiders, Feral Ghouls and even wild dogs. The only upside he could thing of was that they would have a reprieve from fighting Super Mutants, at least until the reached GNR. For all they knew it could have been over run by Mutants, meaning that they would have to perform a purge and collect their dead.

Eventually, they descended onto the derelict rail tracks of what used to be the Metro train. It was little better than what greeted them upon entering the Metro. It was darker down here, there were no overhead lights. Each of them activated their helm-mounted lamps, giving them some light to illuminate their path. Not long now, we're nearly there. Don't be so scared, you're a member of the Brotherhood of Steel. We are Steel. We are hard. We have been sharpened to an edge. Repeating the Brotherhood's code helped to calm him; he suddenly became more focused and less jittery. He rolled the words over in his mind over and over again; they helped bring him the peace of an eye of the storm.

They left the rail tracks as quickly as they had arrived. It wasn't long before they reached the exit gate. "Hold it. Listen, we have no clue as to what we may find on the other side of this gate. We'll have to walk a short distance through some ruins of a school; Three Dog seems to believe that there is a large Mut presence in the area. Our man objective is to get to GNR. If the amount of Muts gets too much, you run. Run to GNR and hope that the garrison is still alive to cover your ass. Got it?" We all nodded, none of us doubted the seriousness of Danti's orders. "Okay as soon as you get out here, find some cover and scan the area." He pulled open the gate "Go! Go! Go!"

Mattias ran as fast as he could, he sprinted up the ramp that followed down to where they had just left. He glanced to his right and saw a support pillar about ten strides from where he was now. He went for it. Safely in cover he scanned around for targets, he couldn't see any. "Clear!" He heard five over calls and waited for Danti to give the order.
"Alright, let's move. Keep it tight and fast." They moved as fast as they dared, they needed to fully aware of their surroundings but still get through the ruins as fast as possible. As they came around the corner of an alley way they glimpsed the school. It's like a ghost town, what's going on? Even the school was silent, there was no presence of a Mut anywhere. "Maybe Three Dog was exaggerating?" Gabral gave voice to what they were all thinking. As they exited the school and came through the street that would take them to the front of GNR they saw that he definitely was not.

The garrison of nine members of the Brotherhood was bunkered down behind sandbag walls. They were beset by a horde of Super Mutants, at a guess about thirty Muts. Even including the garrison the Brotherhood members were outnumbered two-to-one. "Right lads, stick it to them. Keep close, keep firing and most importantly run for the barricades. We'll stand a better chance if we link up with our brothers over there. Ready?" Danti didn't even wait for an answer, he just ran. Our loyalty made us follow him; we ran and fired, not really picking targets. The hordes' attention focused on them, giving the garrison chance to make some easy kills. We took a few down to, but by the time we made it to the barricades, miraculously without loss, there was still at least twenty Muts left.

"Hold steady, and cover each others backs." The Muts took that as the cue to start firing again, Mattias ducked behind the sandbags. He could hear the dull thump of the bullets breaking open the bags and the sand pouring out. Is it just me or is this getting slightly repetitive? He snapped off a few quick shots and ducked again. He repeated this several times, each time he looked over the sand bags it didn't look like the horde was getting any smaller. Wait a sec, an idea came to time. He pulled a brace of grenades from his belt, priming them for a three second delay Mattias threw them over the barricade. BANG! The explosion was massive; Mattias felt the heat of the backwash flow over the sandbags before waning. The blast had killed a small huddle of Muts, but with the other members of the Brotherhood following Mattias' example the Super Mutants retreated.

"That was fun." Braail was the first to stand
"Come on lads, Three Dogs expecting us." Danti turned to one of the GNR guards "Thanks Wilks." Wilks nodded as we opened the door to GNR and moved inside. GNR was fairly run down, at least on the ground floor. There was rubble everywhere; Wilks had erected two lights to help with visibility. They walked up onto the balcony and carried on up to the broadcasting level. Three Dog was waiting for us at the top of the stairs.

"Danti, my man, thanks for taking out those Mutant bastards. That was one crazy firework display."
"Trust me, Three Dog, it didn't feel like a display." Three Dog smiled, Mattias didn't like the man; he seemed slightly arrogant. He doesn't care about us or the Brotherhood, as long as we keep him safe. "Yeah, umm? listen Danti, I need a favour."
"No, Three Dog." Danti cut in "We don't do favours; we have a job to do. Lucky for you one of them is protecting this place. Find someone else to fix your dish." Three Dog looked slightly down hearted. "I'm disappointed, I thought you guys were all for the Good Fight."
"We are, but we have other wider, more important, issues to worry about." Mattias saw the stern, stony look on Danti's face and knew he wasn't about to back down anytime soon. "Look, Three Dog, we're going to stay here for the evening and then we have to more on. Lyons has given us a job to do. I'll request that Lyon's Pride come and help sort out the Mut problem round here, okay? But that's the best I can do." Three Dog nodded and went back to his equipment.

Danti looked at us "Listen, not a word about our destination. If he knew where we're headed he won't stop asking. Understood? Good." He went to turn away "Oh, and if anyone does breath a word, you'll go and get the dish alone. Got it?" We all nodded, that was no idle threat. With that the squad all went to help out the garrison in anyway they could; whether it be repairing defences or erecting more sandbag walls. The work took most of the afternoon. When they'd finished Danti posted a guard and the rest of the unit went back inside. Mattias made a bed in the corner; he removed his armour a piece at a time, and fell asleep.

Added rest of Chapter 3. I think from now on I will update full Chapters, so updates will take a bit longer.

Ok, you can call me a liar as I'm going to have to post this Chapter in two halves. Mostly because it has been a small while since I posted and RL is bogging me down, so I'm not sure when I'll be a ble to finish it. A shame if, like me you write as a form of meditation - I guess that's the word for it. Also, apologies for such a small update, reason above. But heck, no excuses right? ;)

@ outcast slayer - I appreciate that, please keep reading.

Chapter 4

Galaxy New Radio HQ
August 16th 2277
1207 Hours

They left GNR just after midday. Danti had made radio contact with the citadel requesting that Lyon's Pride be sent to aid the garrison at GNR. Elder Lyons had informed him that Sarah Lyons and here unit had been sent out on another mission but would be directed to GNR on their return. The news seemed to lift Sergeant Wilks' spirit knowing that the Brotherhood's elite were on their way; Three Dog, however, seemed despondent. As he had pointed out Elder Lyons had neglected to mention when Lyon's Pride would return, if the ever did. In his current mood, Three Dog felt that that time could be a long way off, due to "Lyon's increasingly eccentric orders." It was then that Danti had reminded the DJ of the fact that it was Lyon's 'eccentric orders' that kept a garrison outside his radio tower. Mattias had the feeling that, like himself, Danti didn't like Three Dog all that much.

So with the atmosphere getting colder and colder by the moment their unit left GNR and continued to head to their next objective: the Washington Monument. As he had been constantly reminded, the Washington Monument was an utter warzone. It was filled with large numbers of Super Mutants, Raiders, Ghouls, Mercs and Enclave soldiers, if you were really unlucky. Mattias was apprehensive about facing the Enclave; he wasn't sure if he was scared to face warriors spoken of in hushed tones by his brethren, or if he was eager to test the reputation of such warriors face to face. He smiled to himself; with the way the tensions are building around here I may just get my chance.

To get to the Monument his unit had to travel inside another Metro Station; the path to the metro was covered in rubble. In fact, to reach the actual path they had to scramble down the ruined side of the radio tower. That was hard work; each step had to be carefully measured to ensure that it wouldn't disturb the debris; if it did they could well be sent plummeting to their doom. That was a sobering thought. It took them the best part of twenty minutes to reach ground level without incident. The first two members down were Gabral and Rikel, they instantly found cover behind some debris and began scanning for targets; one brother had been lost to this mission and each member of the unit wasn't prepared to lose another to it.

Mattias hit the ground running; he took point and pressed forward. Two ghouls came out of no where and attacked. Two laser blasts came from behind, the ghouls dropped to the floor. Mattias never did find out who took the shots.

I will endeavour to do so, just that RL seems to be dumping on me at the moment. Hopefully, I'll get more up by the end of next week.
