Breton is the best race

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 4:14 pm

It is obvious that Breton is the best race to make your character.

Dragonskin : Absorb 50% of magicka from hostile spells for 60 seconds.
Magic Resistance : Breton blood grants a 25% resistance to magic.

Why even use other races? And why have people not even mentioned how much better these are compared to other races.

The other races have an ability and unique trait about them as well....

I play breton exactly for the 25% magic resistance (haven't used dragonskin until now).

I don't know if dragon breath is considered magic. If not, nord/dunmer protection would be better against certain dragons.

But it's still your game, so play what you want ^^ If the bretons would look ugly i would have picked another race for my mage.

I'm using Breton at the moment with the Atronach stone. Enemy casters literally do nothing but give me infinite Magicka at the moment. Orcs have an amazing racial, I just wonder if the bonus damage applies to spells.

Imperials, Khajiit and Redguards have pretty bad racial bonuses.

EDIT:
To the above, the Dragon breath itself is not magic but the damage over time afterwards is and you can absorb that.

A Breton with Alteration perked up and the Atronach Stone is basically spell immune.

25% resistance plus 30% resistance from alteration perks makes you pretty much immune to magic... I'm playing a Breton mage, it really is awesome.

People don't choose race just for the abilities.

Nords ability is the most handy one to me. Battle-cry and all average foes will flee for a while. A good opportunity to strike them down or bail out.

I can think of a lot of reasons to play a race other than Bretons.

Breton is what I happen to be playing, mainly because of their bonus to Conjuration, and Conjuration being my favorite skill. So they fit my playstyle.

But there are plenty of other awesome racial abilities and bonuses out there.

I'm using the lord stone for my breton so i have pretty good resistance against any type of damage (needless to say draugr deathlords still 2hit me if one of the hits is a power attack).

They're not the best Race if you're not a mage.

Nords + Boots of dwindling frost = 80% frost resistance. I take out frost Dragons, ice wraiths, draugrs and ice mages easily. Orcs probably have the best overall race ability.

Breton's are great for char's who wont focus on enchanting or alchemy to get their resistance, but it's nothing 'game breaking'.
I achieved 90% with my orc 2h warrior easily, breton's just allow u to do it even easier and faster.

Bretons were my favorite race, it's still what I play but they wrecked them by taking away the racial magicka bonus. Stupid.

I love my Bosmer, ealry on my travels around Skyrim I came across a camp with 2 giants, they pummeled me, sent me flying way up in the sky. Reload, try again, while running aorund the giants shooting my arrows at them a bunch of Mammoths joined in the fight . . . one of those mammoths then became my best buddy and helped me wipe out everything in the area . . . . sorted!

dumb comment on a lot of levels

first or all ROLE PLAYING????

secondly most people choose race for fluff, rping and looks and not abilities since you can play on master with any race/class combo

thridly youll get shoots, potions and spells which can pretty much supplement most racial abilities

and lastly different racial traits for different palystiles - an assassin doesnt need the magic resistance cause he doesnt get seen/hit, a warrior proifts a lot from berserker rage (half damage taken means also half magic damage....) etc. etc. etc. etc.

not to mention that brettons all have these kidn of puffy ugly faces...

my orc assassin on berserker rage does 60times normal damage with highly smithed and enchanted weapons (even for the hardest enemy in game i wouldnt need half that damage...)

i would say the breton ability is good for mages cause you mostly get hitten by mages/archers...

I think you'll find the orc racial is the most stupid/ridiculous/I-WIN one.

Yeah, the orcs' berserk ability, making you deal twice the damage while taking half, can tear through an army within its 60 second duration.

yeah its a bit overpowered altough you can only use it once a day... but they could tune it down to like do 2x damage dealt without the damage reduction and instead give em some additional resistance (i'd assume orcs are resistant to disease since they are hardy...)

I prefer any elf to a breton.

They are Fugly.

Also, i like the command animal skill. Most awesome class skill would be the one from the Khajit in my opinion. Night eyes are kewl.

The only one that matters is High Elf. If you are playing as a caster that requires a lot of mana, High Elf > Breton. For everything else, Breton > all. Powers are irrelevant. Yes, Orcs can once a day be better than anyone at everything they do. The rest of the time they are just like everyone else.

I've always loved Bretons for this reason. But then again I hate going up against mages in most games I've played. *grrr*
So having all that natural magic resistance is a big perk to have.

I do have a general dislike to mages (would never play one either) so to me this is a part of my roleplay.
Therefore I agree, their natural resistance plus their power is very awesome.

Orcs also have an excellent range of natural abilities and it would be my choice when I do a full on Warrior Build, but it's also just nice to have a brute when I go warrior.

While not as redonkulous as Berserk, the Redgaurds racial ability is pretty impressive when your duel-wielding weapons and have the speed increase perks.

are trolls and stuff considered anmials? does this work on high end animals like mammoth's?

khajits are super BUT the one thing i dont like about their ability is that it kinda takes away the night and day cicle cause its kinda always day for you...changes the feel to it

My Nord (50% Frost resist) has the Otar mask (30% Fire, Frost and Shock resist) and the Lord birthstone (25% magic resist). That means:

105% Frost resistance (I'm assuming this is capped at 90% or so, seeing as Frost dragons still hurt me, but only a tiny amount)
55% Fire resistance
55% Shock resistance

Admittedly this would be pretty insane as a Breton too, but Nords can be equally epic :)
