A brief history of Yokuda

Post » Sun May 29, 2011 1:09 am

I just saw a map of Tamriel that included Yokuda while researching Atamor(sp?). I was just curious about it's culturs history and what not. If anyone could point me in the right dirrection it would be much appriciated.

The Redguards blew it up because they didn't know how to use the tower properly.

And just a note, the entire thing didn't sink, most of it did, but a chain of islands still remain.

Just another note, by "blew up" mean they destroyed the tower and thus the local reality of the continent, causing it to degenerate and thus sink into the sea.

How were they trying to use the Tower? I thought they destroyed Yokuda because they couldnt control their battle stances or something like that, something to do with the Swordsingers? Could you help me out on that? Maybe link some sources to read, please.

The Tower in question was the Orichalc Tower, built by the "left handed elves" that also inhabited Yokuda. The Yokudans never actually used the tower, they did however destroy it in their war against these elves. Just thought I'd attempt to attempt to clarify things a little bit.

Basically, it started out as historical Japan except with black people.

IIRC, "Yokuda" supposedly means "Paddy (in/by the rice-field)" in Japanese.

Witch brings a nother question from this ignorant one. What is the significance of these towers I keep hearing about.

Seriously, I'v been playing MW for 3-4 years and OB for about 8 months and have never heard of them until 3 days ago.

That's probably the Dwemer for those of you who are new. Also referred to as Dwarves in these games, although that is a misnomer. They were of average humanoid height and build.

edit: I may be wrong, but I could have sworn the Dwemer were referred to as Left Handed Elves by the Yokudans. If I am thinking of another race please correct me.

You're mistaken. The Dwemer had vanished before the Yoku came to Tamriel.

Although it's an interesting speculation. Even if it doesn't quite line up with the whole "Elves sailing, looking for Aldmeris and founding the Pyandonian and Yokudan elves" bit we get from http://www.imperial-library.info/obbooks/father_niben.shtml

The reason I assumed it was them is that the term "left hand path" is often used to refer to the occult or the arcane..so called "paganism". The Dwarves would have been considered very much arcane and perverse by most other Elven nations, so that name would suit them indeed.

Why perverse? They were just trying to go back to the "first brush", isnt that what most mer are looking for? Leave this damn prison that is Mundus.

If anything Dunmer are the ones to be considered perversed from an elven point of view, since they turned to worship Daedra Lords and later the Tribunal with their stolen godhead and all the other perks.

I thought you were just using them as everyone does; as a scapegoat ;)

Perverse in that they constantly questioned and sought to undermine the divine with their calculations..they were the atheists of the Elder Scrolls universe. I rather admire them for their bold scientific standpoint and their desire to become gods themselves, replacing the Pantheon - others, including the Chimer, obviously felt very differently. They were seen as profane by more than a few, I'm sure.

If the Left-Handed Elves were Dwemer, could the Orichalc Tower have been Numidium?

No..because walk brass is the Numidium, not Orichalc tower, which was made in MW and is the opposite direction of Yokuda. Heck, remember how Vivec sold the Numidium to Tiber Septim, who then used it to crush opposition till it blew up from Arctus Zurin pretty much after Summerset Ilse was conquered

But still, I find it funny how most people consider their methods to be insane and heretical, even though they were embracing total merish thought (with the exception of the dunmer and possibly bosmer).

"Orichalc" could simply mean "flesh-metal". Hammerfell (Stros M'Kai) had Dwemer too, and Numidium could have walked there to aid the Dwemer in their struggle against the Yokus.
