Brilliant DLC Idea

Post » Mon Dec 21, 2009 10:52 am

Here is an idea for DLC, the idea behind it was inspired by Halo: ODST (which I liked).

Your exploring an unknown Enclave base, and all the occupants are dead. You have to find out how. The base is quieter then a church mouse. Lame so far? Heres where action fits in. You come across various holotapes of dead soldiers/families. After you listen to it, the screen fades, and you go back in time to that persons shoes to see what really happened. A mix of exploration and story development (similar to Vault 11), with lots of action in between in the boots of various characters.

It doesn't have to be Enclave, I just like wanted to get the game mechanic out there. Piecing stories together by playing through others experiences.

Pretty cool, but I would think there would have be a bit more to the actual base. Like when you're in the base, would there be old turrets and robots?

Spoiler
On a sidenote I really liked Vault 11 for its background story, but I really want to know what happened to the guy that lived.

Isn't this what a Halo did? Plus wouldn't this mean your character would basically be useless? Your build and your equipment..

Absolutely. You have to work with the character your given each time you read a holotape.

I'm sure this 'base' or wherever has functional turrets, perhaps ghouls, some rats, some traps, some bots. Although I think having a Vault 11-esque environment would suit it best.

Would you at least get good loot? I mean I like a good story but it porbably wouldn't sell well if it didn't improve your character in anyway.

I don't like the Enclave part and I don't like the idea as a whole. I want DLC that builds and adds to Canon. Having simulations and or one big dream sequence/hallucination does not do that.

What? Where the hell did I mention that?

They aren't dreams or sims. You listen to a holotape, somebody wrote alongside their corpse. Then you go back in time to the event in which it happened, and step into that persons shoes.

And this would give a deeper look into the Enclave, beyond all the evil politicians and murderous jarheads.

Well then now I trully don't like the idea. Going back in time and how, just be listning to a Holotape? How would you then go back to the Future? let me guess a DeLorean?

Thats why I thought you meant it like a simulation or one big dream sequence/hallucination.

Let Fallout be Fallout, just like Halo be Halo

It'd work for FPS, but Fallout is an RPG.

I like the idea although I would have it more like Operation Anchorage where you get to this room and you see these pods. Then you enter the Pods and it takes you back in time. Something like that.

Why? What he's saying is your listening to the holotape and playing as the memory your character wouldn't actually be playing the character (You) would just be playing the character on the holotape. At least that's what I thought he was saying lol if not then I really misread.

eh...maybe if it was a side quest in an open world (I.E. point lookout) type DLC. I hate personally halo (esp. multiplayer, though I did think each game has gotten slightly better. I might actually like reach...a little...), so the idea of doing a story ripping off the exact same plot mechanic (walking around a more or less empty area and playing flashbacks) isn't very appealing. I'd probably but it if it was made (though I seriously doubt they'd make this), but it's not something I'm hoping for...

Don't knock it till you try it :P
I like the idea, adding a bit of mystery/hysteria to the event.

I even like the idea of no needed gear due to your a different person for a little bit. Honestly, It adds to the feeling of uneasiness due to the unfamiliarity. Let's the game be a bit more cinematic

But it makes no sense. How does playing a Holotap send you back in time and how would you go back to the future?

No, styles... no.

He means you play what actually happened, and witness what happened through the eyes of the people that lived it.

You (The character) don't go back in time, but the player sees what happened.

That would be just awful, I like Fallout because the realism, timetravel is imposable because time is abstract and does not actually exist, it's just a way to keep track of dates. If they added anything like that I wouldnt even consider it canon and if they continued to do it or even stated it was canon in future games I might even stop playing the entire series, but if it had like some dead space dementia going on or something else that lets you experience the past lives of Enclave solders I would be all for that.

See thats what I first thought he meant. I posted I would not like that because it would be just a like a dream type thing or a simulation. Nothing in that DLC could be trusted as Canon. I don't want it. I want the DLC to add canon to the West, to Fallout.
