Bring back classes?

Post » Fri Feb 14, 2014 7:02 am

I was curious on what your opinions were on how the class setup is in Skyrim. Do you prefer classes like in Oblivion? or do you like the way things are in Skyrim?

I prefer the style of Oblivion. I had a lot of fun playing as different classes and having major skills. It helped me believe I was playing some sort of role.

Classes are bad.

I prefer starting out the way we do in Skyrim.

I wouldn't mind if they did, I wouldn't mind if they didn't.

I don't want them to bring back classes. I prefer making my own "class" and playing that without restrictions.

I never felt the classes made much sense in the previous games, as making custom classes was the best way to get the most out of your level ups, stat-wise. They aren't needed in an open game like this. Use whatever skills you need and call your character whatever you want. Much better this way, IMO

Maybe if they don't rush the next game, maybe there will be proper classes and gameplay with some minimum depth. But I think they will keep on cutting corners.

It felt claustrophobic being restricted to the confines of a single class, but I still preferred it for some reason.

I like the feeling of a warrior being more effective with an axe than a Mage.

Copy and pasted from multiple threads now

So, yes I want to see classes back because it gives a more complex role to your character.

Pathfinder is DnD 3.5

It's more polished and much more smoothed out, imo. And less outdated.

It was just an example of how Perks should work. Perks should not determine what you can do. Attribrutes and Skills determine what you can do. And Perks should enhance what Attribrutes and Skills allow you to do.

This makes it so that there are No Useless Perks as well. Because every Perk will be in some way useful to the Skills and Attribrutes you have.

I much preferred Classes in the long run.

My problem with Skyrim's leveling system is that no matter what Build you start with; if you want to continue to level, you gotta be level every skill you've got, even if It isn't something you wanted.

I suppose making skills Legendary sort of fixed that, But I still very much enjoyed making my classes and naming them; it felt more personalized.

Morrowind and Oblivion had skills and attribrutes.

So your argument fails pretty hard there, right on its face.

I did.

Oblivion and Morrowind had Attribrutes.

I was using Pathfinder as an example of how to properly incoporate Perks.

Skyrim got rid of Attribtues and Skills and instead went for Perks. I feel that Perks were the wrong way to go.

In Pathfinder, yes I am going to mention it, they have Perks they are called Feats. Feats are like special abilities you get as you level up, and they act as Perks. They determine the strength and specials you can do with your skills.

If TES wants Perks. I think the better way to approach it is allow us to customize our attribrutes and skills, further than just Health, Magicka, and Stamina. And add Perks as extra specials for the stuff we can do.

Huh?

I meant present TES as in the present. You know, right now.

I don't care for classes or attributes. I like to be able to roll whatever character I wish without much hassle.

And it's this mentality that hurt TES as a series.

Go back and buy a different simplistic RPG if you want that, but I'm getting tired of companies listening to people like you.

I wouldn't mind classes returning, it feels like a safety net for me, lol. I'd still custom pick my skills as i like from a list. And i'd like to see selecting your birth sign ONCE at the beginning, not chopping & changing it willy-nilly.

I think if they had classes would be fine, only if you can branch out and hybrid them if you so choose.

I enjoy making whatever I want and to be whatever I want. More realistic. There are alot of time that I do just enjoy the simplicity of pure warrior rage though as well =)

You could do that in Oblivion.

I made a ton of unrestricted unhindered custom classes.

@crazyguy: Again your argument has no merit, when both Morrowind and Oblivion and more so Morrowind were designed as table top style RPGs.

The annoying thing about classes is that say I picked my class to be a one handed warrior and something like Dawnguard comes out introducing a new weapon in this case the crossbow and I really want to use it but I can't because it won't level me
