Bring Back Grumpy Dunmer Voice!

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 10:48 am

When I played Morrowind for the first time in years recently, I had the most awesome felling of nostalgia when I heard the silt strider guy say: "We make a special trip, just for you! same low price."

I really want that voice back. It was wonderful hearing Desmond in fallout 3!

Agree, this was very cool. Also the constant complaining tone was a nice touch: "Bothersome creature", "Stop bothering me", "Dont waste my time" and the likes. This should be particular to them, imo.

Something more threatening than the Oblivion voice but not quite as harsh as the Morrowind one. I don't like voices that are like someone rubbing two pieces of pumice together. And have some consistency across the genders.

I 100% loved the Dunmer voices from Morrowind more than OB, where they sounded like total wimps. I didn't really like ANY of the voices. I disliked the MW dunmer female voice for the other elves, and I disliked the female breton/imperial voice SO MUCH, and I disliked the argonian/khajiit voice, which seemed far to overt compared to the MW voices.

In short, I didn't like the OB voices.

That said, there was a lot that could have been improved about the MW voices as well. I'd like more variation- if not within a race, then at LEAST between races. I think the voices should try to capture the flavour of the races more, rather than just gravelly for beast races and high-pitched for elves.

Anyway, back on topic... if I had to choose between MW male dunmer voice and OB male dunmer voice, MW male dunmer voice would win. However, I think they can probably do better than both, and that is where my hopes will lay.

I was disappointed by Dunmer voices in OB.. Also the Khjiit and Argonians better sound different this time!
The Nords need to go back to the Scandanavian type accent, and the Orcs.. well they would be fine keeping their OB voice, as they are more civilized..

It could have just been from Red Mountain in Morrowind, but I hated how the Dunmer sounded just like those pompous Altmer in Oblivion.

With Skyrim looking a bit more gritty and realistic I'd hope we're going to lose most of the campy elf voices they overused in Oblivion, Morrowind's dark elves sound great but I bet the actor would end up with throat cancer after reading several thousand lines in that voice.

I'm assuming you're referring only to the male voice (It's strange how commonly people seem to assume the males of a race make up the entire race, sometimes), otherwise Morrowind and Oblivion shared the exact, same Dunmer voice on the female side of this.

Feminists, seeing controversy where there is none since... I mean seriously, this thread is about the MALE dunmer voice because the MALE dunmer voice was a) the iconic one and B) the one that got changed. You say yourself the female one remains the same, so why would we be discussing bringing back the female voice? Good lord.

Yes, bring him back.

Agreed-- that voice really gave them some great character and uniqueness! I could be wrong, but didn't the same guy do the voices for the Altmer, Dunmer, and Bosmer in Oblivion? Ugh. Bring back the gravelly voice! :)

You all remember the voice that you first heard while starting Morrowind. Really added a cool element to the Dunmer in TESIII. Bring it back Bethesda!

Jeff Bakers! Go go!

Those all sounded exceptionally wooden and bad.

I'm all for the Dunmer having scratchy voices, just not as ragged as they were in MW. I was under the impression that the Gravelly voices were because they lived near Red Mountain, and the ash storms that issued from it. Skyrim, not being affected by Red Mountain, wouldn't have the ash storms, at least not anywhere near as bad as in MW; so the Dunmer's voices wouldn't be as scratchy.

No, because other races (and female Dark Elves) didn't have gravelly voices despite living there, too. Also, the male Dark Elves in Mournhold had gravelly voices despite not having ash storms.

Your not the only person in the world you know, this is being sort of childish/trollish.

Absolutely YES! Its absence was one of the biggest letdowns of Oblivion for me.

This man voiced almost all Ghouls in FO3! I guess we'll see him again in Skyrim.

Please bring back the REAL Dunmer voice... bethesda must have had no idea how it felt... I arived in Morrowind for the first time... with that awesome music... those awesome loading screens (They're amazing! I want 'em to look like that again!)... Jiubs voice... amazing... I enjoyed it so much... I felt as if I was a part of the game... then an assassin attacked me, I was told to seek Ebonheart... then a lady... and then I heard the most amazing, awesome, and cool line ever... spoken with the most amazing, awesome, and cool voice ever... "Mournhold! City of light, city of magic!"... alot of people think like that 'bout ordinators... but whenever I hear that line spoken by that voice... behind that helmet... I nearly cry.

I'd say find a middle ground between the two. They sounded like pansies in oblivion but in morrowind it sounded like they had a stoma. The first voices that come to mind that I think would work well would be ocelot's and snake's voices from MGS 4.

Yes, and while you are at it, bring back the male Orc voice too. Nothing against the guy who did the Nord and Orc voices for Oblivion, but he seemed more Nord than Orc :)

Yes, bring us Jeff Baker! First time I heard that voice was actually in Redguard, where he voiced the dunmer assassin Dram, and several others. He was also Haskill in Shivering Isles if I remember correctly.
