Bring back the cloth map!

Post » Sun Oct 24, 2010 5:01 pm

You are lucky these days to just get a manual with the game instead of those damned in-game ones.

Saying that, I would love to have a cloth map. I don't see it happening though because I'm sure it would hike the price of the collectors edition up to a point that it wouldn't sell nearly as good as if we go something more simpler like a sculpture of a a dragon or something.

For the cost of a cloth map they could hire a small company to make an interactive iPad and Android honeycomb tablet Map-App. Such a 'app' would actully be useful tool and would give people we should all want to have jobs (developers) a small project.

Great idea!

I would quite seriously pay $100 ore more JUST for a cloth map the size of the one Todd has on the BGS hallway that we saw in one of his interviews (I think it was at least 4 feet square).

Maybe this is a screen-printing opportunity, I'm gonna bug my wife and see if she can cook one up this year... (more dreaming, when will it end?)

That's the thing, most people would not pay $100 for it. Any collectors edition should be no more than $80. Any more than that and the incentive to buy it just isn't there. Also, to get a 4 foot cloth map will cost WELL OVER $100 if they did that.

As far as screen-printing one, that would be a cool idea. However, you need very good art for screen printing purposes and so far we don't have that and I'm not sure you would get the kind of art needed for that.

My wife is a professional artist, that's why I mentioned it. :)

A short while ago (haven't checked of late) the Aussie dollar was roughly equal to the US dollar, and we still have to pay over $100 for a new game! So count yourselves lucky.

I would have to cut back on what I buy if that was the case. I've only bought 2 collectors editions of game, Morrowing and Oblivion. Skyrim will be my 3rd.

I love maps i've got the OB map then theres the GOTY edition one with the Shivering Isle in the corner and then Ive got the Morrowind map. Far Cry 2, Red Dead Redemption, Ever Quest II (Freeport and Qeynos) and the Desert of flames expansion Map (after that I ended up downloading expansion which i kinda regret now.) Oh and then there the A1 sized map of Middle Earth thats in the loft though because it was backed onto Hardboard and was just getting damaged behind the sofas and what not.

How about one step further than Cloth... Pig SKIN!
Sorry too far I know :P

Man, you're sick. I'd swap one for the ready game right now, but the cloth map? Nah :shakehead:

If I'm honest, and between you and me, :whisper: I'd swap my first - born for a copy of Two Worlds. I really don't like the boy. :nope:

A cloth map? I'd rather have one etched in raw ebony that arrives in sections via the post prior to the game's release. Hang that on yer wall.

I had some pirate game from the late 80's (maybe early 90's) that had a cloth map.

What I miss though is the paper TSR Greyhawk map I had.

My last cloth map was from the CE for DA:O. However, my favorite game prize was my pewter-like Ordinator figurine from Morrowind. It resides on my computer desk to this day.

I don't buy this 'cost' thing. You can buy a fairly decent T-shirt for £5 these days with hard wearing print on it, so a cloth map should cost Bethesda no more than £3 if they buy a job lot in bulk. This should then add no more than, say £5 to £10 to the final price of the collectors edition (which, let's be honest, most of us in here will be getting).

I had that Ultima cloth map and loved it !!! had that svcker pinned up on the wall next to my Apple //e monitor.

Hey here's a neat marketing idea. They should sell T-shirts with the map on it. That way I'd buy two, one to wear and one to pin up next to my monster quad core mean gaming machine.

A cloth Map would be awesome! I'm buying the CE no matter what, but a cloth map would make it so much more worthwhile! :D

But my favorite Game Map got to be the map that followed in the Age of Conan CE; A leather map! :)

I like the paper map better. You can burn the edges of the paper map more easily than you can the cloth one, like the Redguard map.
