Bringing Ancient Egypt To Morrowind!

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 5:46 pm

A lot of the ancient site place names seem much more based on Babylonian/Assyrian culture than Egyptian. The Dwemer even have the Assyrian style beards, judging from the statues, and the evil reputation to go with that connection. All we need to go with it is a full-sized Zigguraut (the Vivec cantons don't count).....

I was toying for a while with the idea of making a Dwemer lamellar armor medium cuirass similar to the ancient Assyrian ones, but my artwork skills are pretty basic compared to some of the talent here, so I've been sticking to scripting.

New Model near completion:

Anubis Lower body statue

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee122/silver_fox_rival/Blender%20Stuff/Screenie2.jpg

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee122/silver_fox_rival/Blender%20Stuff/Screenie4.jpg

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee122/silver_fox_rival/Blender%20Stuff/Screenie3.jpg

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee122/silver_fox_rival/Blender%20Stuff/Screenie5.jpg

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee122/silver_fox_rival/Blender%20Stuff/Screenie6.jpg

All I need to do is to play with the gold texture settings, apply the right textures for the rest of the model, place a really sweet-looking Anubis helm I found as a resource, and presto! We have our first statue! :twirl:

Hi,

I am new to this forum. I joined because I found while checking my Flickr statistics tah I am getting a lot of hits on a couple of my Egypt photos. From what I gather, you are developing a game or something and using photos of Egyptian temples, etc as a template or something. It is all very interesting. I don't mind you using my photos, but would be interested in the intent. If in fact they are used for something like a new video game, I would be honored that mine were used. Can you fill me in?

Thanks,

Butch O.

A group of enthusiasts are making a game based on ancient Egypt using the Morrowind engine to run it. It is a non commercial project which anyone will be able to download for free in due course and play providing they own a copy of Morrowind.

Photo's are being utilised either for inspiration / reference purposes or some may be applied to 3d models used in the game to give an authentic feel, here is an example of photo's being used to give http://s70.photobucket.com/albums/i109/Slartibartfast_2006/?action=view¤t=ScreenShot127.jpg.

Yes Butch, we are creating a game mod that is called a total conversion to the original game called The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. What a total conversion is that everything but the beginning script of the original version of the game where you choose your character, class, and so on. We will be making new 3D models, using new textures that myself or any of the other team members that create them, all of the landmass (Exterior Cells) will be shaped much like ancient egypt itself. We will also be making the cities to look similar to the way how they looked back in those times. The inside of the buildings (Interior Cells) of this game modification will have a lot of egyptian background and lore. Some direct wall structures of the inside of the pyramids will be used but only touched up so they can look like they were freshly done. There will be parts of this mod where you can warp through the use of Stargates to other parallel worlds that will have a bunch of main and side quests for those who will be playing this mod to complete as well as the main part of this mod. In The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind there are books that give extra knowledge on the main story of the game. In this mod we will be including a lot of the ancient egyptian lore that happened back in those times as well. So basically we are taking the original game of Morrowind and using what the original game creators have provided us to use (an editor named The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Construction Set) and making our game modification. How people are going to play this game mod is that they have to have the original game disk and then from there loading up our game mod which is called a plug-in. So therefore when the game starts, they will be playing our mod instead of the original game that is on this disk. It's kind of complicated to explain in full detail of how that works, but the original game developers should be able to fill you in on that. lol :banghead:

Thanks for the information. This is very interesting. I have a lot of photos that I took in Egypt that are not posted in my Flickr account. I have shots of most of the major temples throughout the country, photos of the tombs in the Valley of the Kings and some shots of the walls in a few of the tombs. I also have shots of some temple walls that still show color in the murals. In addition I have many shots of the deeply carved hyroglyphics (not sure of the spelling here) on columns at the Karnak temple that are amazing. I would be happy to share any of them for your use if you so desire. Best regards,

Butch

...revive some of it's lost magic again...

Are you going to make new effect icons then?
Something with hieroglyphs perhaps?
If not I'll do it, I won't get to involved but this is a nice opportunity to make some again. (pm me)

Well, good luck :goodjob:

I'm not into icons that much, but silver_fox_rival has already done a bunch of new spell icons. Go back pages and have a look at. Best pm her and ask if and how you can help!!!

If you can come up with some unique Summon Spells then I'll finish off the icons. I want them all to be 3D. In fact can you test the ones that I already did to see if they can be seen really good in game? That would save me the trouble of trying to do that and finish up making the models for this mod. I got all of the glyphs and hieroglyphics that's how I made those so far.

lol, scripting summoning spells is a MUCH easier spell to script. Extremely basic rather than the many scripted spells out there I'm no doubt going to experiment with...

Still, we'll likely be using this with the aid of MWSE, so even more advanced scripts shouldn't be a problem...

I made these and as you can see the last one is a scarab (summon shalk?) So that's one idea.
And summon mummy? Summon God (insert Horus, Anubis, etc. in god)

And if you mail me your icons I'll test them, that is what you wanted right?, Uvirith@Live.nl (I know, I know, but it was available and I don't want spam on my other ones. :P )

@Evil Eye:

Nice work, but silver should show you how to make those icons 3D, so that they become some real eycandy!!! :)

And here's another animated thingy, a mean froggy. In the final version it will snatch a small creature like in that awesome star wars scene in episode 6, in front of jabba's palace, muhahahaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrr!!!

Here are 3 Versions of my new evil companion, which one do you like best? Or have some other ideas for the texture? Sadly I'm not that used to working with different layers in Photoshop yet, but I'm trying to figure it out now, so that I can add some further details to the face in future! :D

@Evil Eye: If you want to do it the way silver_fox_rival did it, you will have to do it in a 3D software like 3dsmax or blender. Those icons are all meshed egypt fonts. I know there is a way to do some 3D-stuff in Photoshop or Gimp too, but I'm not the right person to show you how. Maybe someone around here can tell you how it works!!!
