Bringing back the dwemer?

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 6:03 pm

I saw someone that asked something interesting the other day, don't remember who though. Is it possible to someway reverse whatever happened to the dwemer? If so, how and why? And if not, why? Could it be done if the heart of Lorkhan wasn't destroyed?

Theoretically possible; Practically infeasible.

And narratively unlikely.

Sure, it is unlikely. But is it possible? And if it is possible, then why and how?

I think that it probably is possible. But you'd need a Dwemer to work it out. The tonal calculus and metaphysical chemistry necessary would mystify any other mortal, and most of the gods.

The Heart of Lorkhan was not destroyed: the enchantments that Kagrenac had laid on it were broken and it disappeared.

The Dwemer are gone. They are not being brought back, nor should they be.

Of course it's possible. Anything is possible in the Elder Scrolls universe. Some method could be done to extract the souls of the Dwemer from the skin of Numidium and to recreate their vessels and all that jazz, but as has been said, it's a bad idea for many reasons. Speaking as one of the biggest fan of all Dwemer academia on the forums, I can safely say the Dwemer are better kept shrouded in mystery. Give us bits and pieces of information here and there, maybe another encounter with a lucid spectre, maybe a return of Yagrum Bagarn and/or Numidium, and the interest in Dwemer will only grow stronger. Have a full scale return of the Dwemer race and the intrigue will die in minutes.

The dwemer coming back is never going to happen, why should it? Let the dead races be dead.

i didnt think there were even proof they died out, i thought they just disappeared, it could just mean they had gone into hiding or just decided to up an leave to sumwhere better ot maybe another race or themselves made them disappear. i wouldnt mind it if they come back or we at least found out what happened to them an in a way itd be good if they didnt die out an had just moved away or something else more random happened. there could be many thousands of possible explanations/reasons as to why an what. id like to see more of them or if not them in person then certainly more of their story an just wot happened to them thats for sure.
i dunno wot i think tho, after readin about wot the they did to the falmer it wouldnt suprise if it was the falmer that made them disappear by some strange magic spell or sumthing. sum1 else said they were turned to ash an that there are ash piles near dwemer items that support this ( in another forum that is)

Sure.

All you need is

The Heart of lorkhan
Sunder
Keening
A keen understanding of Tonal Architecture
And the inverse tone of whatever Kagrenac did.

Of course that could just obliterate them entirely.

It's been all but explicitly stated in-game that the Dwemer became the golden skin of Numidium. Devs and ex-devs back this claim up.

We already know what happened to them. Strong evidence indicates that they attempted to transcend mortality by using Lorkhan's heart to bind their collective racial soul to the Numidium, their artificial god.

For some reason that remains unknown, they failed, and only succeeded in becoming the 'skin' of their metal construct. Now, I think it is entirely possible that if someone with the necessary knowledge, skill and power were to put his or her mind to the task, the Dwemer could be brought back. However, the only being ever to fit those qualifications was Kagrenac, and he's kind of indisposed at the moment.

I'm not saying that I would like them to come back, I agree that they should remain a mystery, but I just wondered if it was theoretically possible and how. Threads like these where people discuss the dwemer are usually great places for people like me who are relatively new here on the lore forums, so I kinda hoped for some debate where I could learn something useful or rethink some old idea.

Nothing comes to mind. As of now, the Numidium is all of the dwemer that absorbicided into a time ignoring machine god. The only way I can think of is Alduin restarting the Kalpa, or a giant Deus Ex Machina.

Given enough time, I have faith that Kagrenac could figure out a way.

If Yagrum Bagarn survived Red Mountain's eruption, he could theoretically do it with the right materials.

They turned themselves into pork rinds and had Yagrum Bagarn put them on Numidium. But instead he used brass and ate the Dwemer-rinds so now he's a fat slob with an MSG addiction.

I kind of like that TES is the only fantasy series without Dwarves. Most fantasy seems to paint them as a race on the decline, but with TES, they declined a long time ago.

Bringing them back would take away that uniqueness.

That said, I'm always open to a Dwemer ghost or two.

Even if the Dwemer would come back they would hold a uniqueness, Dwarves is actually a horrible name for them.
