Is Brink 2011's Shadowrun?

Post » Thu May 12, 2011 6:30 pm

Before we begin I realise the topic title was probably troll bait but, in all matureness, I played and enjoyed Shadowrun a lot. It bought something different to the console world and presented a purely multi-player world. Brink is somewhat similar in this respect (while radically different in execution). I'm not trying to flame fans of the game (as I am one) but having experienced the aforementioned Shadowrun I wonder if Brink will escape the same unlucky fate?

It looks like BRINK might take the fate of APB sadly. If it does, then I will quit gaming entirely.

I think youve got it exactly. Really this game will end uo exactly like Shadowrun. I doubt itll crash and burn completely like APB, but it still might if they seriously dont fix the lag in under a week. I think itll end up just a pinch more popular than Shadowrun in the end even once they do fix it though

You defend a game like this? In your other thread you posted in you SOUNDED as if it is fine. Now you say it has a serious issue......hhhmmmmm. Interesting.

Because it has multiple levels and multiple game modes. The game might look like it's from 1999.....it just plain svcks. But in the end its a military FPS. Which will make it last longer than this POS that is said to be "gamebreaking".

Honestly, BF2 had issues. Even has a poor lobby system. Those things were fixed. But it had a lengthy SP and a great MP that DOES support team play with classes and leveling. And it does have a more simulator feel than ARCADE. That is why BF3 should blow things out of the water.

In the end.......Brink is a PC game. Overpriced and not fit for console mindset. Console players play and expect different things. Like re-playability and content per $. Plain and simple.

I was one of the few people that played Shadowrun on Vista and i loved it.
People just always wanted to be in the opposing team to get the Vista player kill achievement *sigh

Anyhow, i do not think that Brink will end like Shadowrun, it will be hugely more popular. The ESL has taken interest, there are already tournaments, the game plays smoothly on dedicated servers etc.
APB was really only ruined by the incredible amount of cheaters and some balancing problems that could have been resolved. Besides, Reloaded is soon out and a lot of people are playing already.

They're both bloody brilliant, and most people don't understand them. They could be twins.

What they do understand is that a company touted a game as REVOLUTIONARY and FLUID and CONTENT rich......what they got was a slick mechanic on an Arcade DL game.
Which is a crippling factor. You can have a brilliant game mechanic and that a VAST majority doesn't relate with it will soon die out to the $9.99 pre-owned rack.

That is very much their issue. I'm enjoying the hell out of Brink. It might not get a sequel, but I'm far from bothered by that. Fasa was disbanded right after Shadowrun was released, it didn't even get DLC, but that never stopped me from enjoying it.

I'll say "No".

But that's mainly because Shadowrun was a vile, wrong thing that urinated all over the IP and crapped out a goddamned CTF game.
