I would also like to point out that it shows that pressing "X" maps it to the D-pad, making this the first of the Active Abilities we've seen in these previews. All the previous Abilities, it would seem, are passive. Also, as many of us already know, since up on the D-pad is reserved for the Objective Wheel, only three Active Abilities are able to be employed each game.

Since we knew about this one more or less, I'm going to respond with something slightly OT I suppose.


So if I'm looking at that correctly that confirms that the engineer has 11 abilities to choose from, yes?

That includes 2 Gun Upgrades, a CP Upgrade, and 3 turrets, as well as five that I can't identify on only the image.

There are also 11 for the soldier, 10 for the medic, 10 for the Op, and 10 UAs, totalling 52.

Perhaps we should start a thread to list and identify all the abilities similar to the "weapons" thread that used to be floating about.

It's been estimates as far as I know. They said something in one interview about scrapping 38 of them because they didn't work right for what they wanted. So maybe they started with 90 and just kept knocking some off. They also said they ended up giving some originally intended for one class to another class for thematic purposes.

There's 52 abilities now, and they said the abilities they got rid of were mostly modifiers, such as "heavy weapons do 1.25 damage now" or "run speed is 1.1 faster." Just mathematics, not actual abilities.

But you're probably right, one or two here or there probably got cut.

I thought I heard that there were 16 Universal abilities, making the total 58, as previously stated. Could be wrong, but I did hear it.

Anyway, yay, Turret info. Already knew about this one from the trailer though. Oh well, still good. :disguise:

Ah, thanks. I'd forgotten where exactly I'd read that, but I did think it was recent. Weird, though, because all the screenshots (including recent ones), don't show twelve abilities in any class. As Mathonn said, and as I have counted myself, it looks like there are 11 Soldier abilities, 10 Operative abilities, 11 Engineer abilities, and 10 Medic abilities. So we'd need 16 Universal abilities to total 58. I thought I read somewhere that there were only ten. Maybe there were only ten known ones and I got confused, who knows.

Thanks. I knew there was some basis for the belief that there were ten universals, but I couldn't remember exactly what.

So, yeah, that adds up to 52, not 58. As I said, I find that odd, considering they flat out said there would be 58. Still, maybe they hid some intentionally to keep a bit of mystery, or something, who knows. When you get right down to it I don't really care. 52 or 58, there's not all that much difference. Why it caught my attention is just because they said there would be one number, then it looks like it might be another from everything we've seen. Why give an exact number if it's not the right number, basically? :P

Could have dropped some since they said 58. I hope not, but they might have. I can't find where I heard 16 Universals either. (mind you I didn't try too hard...) Guess we'll have to wait and see.

So far I think we've seen one new ability since they started this. I realize not everyone is like us A.K.A people that know far to much about Brink already but. If anyone is spending everyday looking at the new abilities they release chances are their semi fanatical about the game at least.Between here and release day they now have 23 abilities to announce. Hopefully most of the rest are ones we haven't already known for ages.

Hmm, I just thought of something. Maybe the 'missing' abilities aren't compatible with the player's bodytype in those videos. I'm not sure if there are bodytype-specific abilities or not, but there could be, for example, Light SMART-boosting abilities, or enhanced/double jumping. Or Heavy-only health boost, or something. Just speculation, and wild ones at that.
