Brink aren't selection

Post » Wed Apr 06, 2011 7:34 am

P.S. Wow, I'm an idiot...aren't is suppose to be ART...its been a long day. Sorry, just go with it.

So, we all know that the art selection is overpronounced features and the color is a bright yet grim, rusty pick.

My question is this, would Brink be more appealing or less appealing with this selection?

Basically, would a more realistic look be more appealing or less appealing to the general public? Admittedly, I was kind of turned off by the giant chins and the massive "Heavies" but soon realized its just the style and all the over pronouced features seamingly disappeared like they were never even there.

The Hyperrealistic Artstyle of BRINK was eventually the one thing which pulled me in.

Also your title makes little sense to me. EDIT: I see you saw that.

It would be more appealing to the general public, just not to me.

i like the whole art spectrum they are going with, granted i am usually the one that wants hyper realism, but when a game has stated they are not going for realism, i can live with that, but once they start trying to be military Sim, i am not going to give them any slack for being more arcade-like.

I actually prefer the art style, because everything now a days is trying to look hyper-real and its like, i have to look at real-looking things all day (Its called life) and this art style really appeals to me because its something different and not mainstream.

I love how both Dark Prophit and OddWorld refer to other games as "hyper realistic" looking, while BRINK's style is named "hyperrealistic" by SplashDamage.

More appealing to the general public, but when I personally was linked to the website by somebody on another forum for the first time, it was the crazy art style (especially with the packaging/website, I'm a svcker for nice design) that grabbed my attention by the you-know-whats.

Don't care. I play a game for the gameplay not the graphics/art. However, I like the artstyle they've chosen and it only increases my will to play.

So if a game looks TERRIBLE it wouldn't put you off?

I really enjoy the art-style in terms of the character design, level design, and the Ark in general, but for some reason, I don't really like what they did with the color.

It's as if they drained color from everything. Mirror's Edge had a bright, vivid palette which I really liked -- Brink seems to have taken this palette and watered everything down.

But that's pretty minor in the grand scheme of things. I'm still phenomenally excited to buy and play.

I actually think minecraft looks pretty good considering its a 3D eight-bit game. As for Brink, I like the functionality of the art style a lot. Because it's so exaggerated you can easily discern between a light, medium, and heavy. Aside from that, I'm more into the environment art than the character.

I personally believe the ART style was perfect, and it was the smartest idea to go with a cartoony look.

Saying minecraft has bad graphics is like telling Picasso he had anatomy wrong. Its 8-bit graphics, and it looks good for what it is.
