Brink, in a competition/league enviorment?

Post » Thu Oct 14, 2010 11:59 pm

My question/s to the developers is/are...

I understand (and am excited) Brink has structured an online environment which supports competitive game play, through a critical thinking atmosphere and style of playing. But I have been curious what developers have done to support league play.

As a past Counter-Strike 1.6 player in leagues like CAL (Cyber Athlete League) and CEVO (Cyberevolution), I have not seen too much emphasized on this yet. Not to say I don't commend Brink on its current efforts in providing a public atmosphere to support smart play (no pun intended). I think there is great value in the connection between the competition environment, and the growth in skill / longevity of the game. Much like what sports titles are building into their interface's, I would like to see FPS's take the same approach in keeping up that aspect of the replay value.

Is there a built in interface which supports match or scrimmage based play? (as opposed to sifting through posts on mIRC :P )

If so, what can we expect from it?

Thanks.

An in-game "scrim" system would be great, not only for current competitive players but for any team looking for organized matches or "clan wars". Some sort of ranking system similar to the Quake Live matchmaking system would be a good way to insure you are playing team of similar skill level (or know when you are about to play a higher skilled team based on rank because you want the challenge). This would be a great feature :tops:

Also, if or when mods are available, hopefully they allow them to be used on "ranked" servers. in Quake Wars servers running mods were not ranked and there was a sort of separation of public and comp players (maybe have "approved" mods that can run a ranked server).

A scrim system would be nice, basically a game mode that expects all players to start and finish any given round. Possibly tie a stat to the player's account showing how often they stay/leave, and if they are dependable this new gameplay option. You can set thresholds saying only players with 90+% stay rate can join a game for play. Filter out the rage quitters.

The Comp community will set their own rules regardless, and have their own mods to go along with them.

I think they will do like in their previous launches and allow heavy server modding and make it real easy to join your opponents server. It would be ultra cool if an online shooter had a battle.net style chat rooms to find scrims and not just be flamewars.

Yeah, Battle.net is setup really nicely. Something else Blizzard got right.

I do agree that the Comp community will have a great influence on what a format may look like. I was more so looking to see if the developer will be implementing a system to help aid the Comp community/environment. While at the same time hopefully not restricting the possibilities too much.

Thanks for the look! Both threads seem very interested in the progression of league play! Although they may be tackling different issue, they both have a common goal!

Since Counterstrike 1.6 alot of the more major gaming leagues have pulled back due to the rise of the consul-kids. Aside from CEVO, has anyone heard about any other league who may be interested in BRINK?

The same posts have now been crossing over, so I'm going to close this thread and like to direct everyone to http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1157740-competitive-brink/ for discussion on playing Brink competitively. :)
