I'm gonna look at the positives of this. hopefully by the time I (and everyone else) get it working, all the other issues people seem to be having with the game will have been resolved so that it just seems amazing

Gentlemen, I heard a bunch of different things people tried to get their copy of Brink working, including updating drivers for video cards and the like. There is some discussion about updating to CCC 11.5 and then rolling back to 11.3. I have no idea how all these seem to work on some machines. There was a lot of suspicion about the 11.5a hotfix. LOTS of folks said they were faced with the BSOD and had to use system restore. Using the hotfix appears to be a dangerous alternative of some folks and I didn't use it all day yesterday. I just couldn't get the damn game to load. It would crash the minute the slash damage/bethesda logo came onscreen. I finally ran the hotfix in desperation .... and it worked. I could finally launch Brink. It is, however as so many ATI Radeon users say it is... choppy as hell and the FPS can be deterrent to playing. Lowering the resolution, disabling motion blur and enabling vsync all seem to improve things just a little bit. I did the r_shawdows 0 thing in my console, now there are gridlines on everything. Still, the games playable, infact the lag kinda slows everything down (i'm guessing lots of laggy players out there) and you can get in some pretty good shooting.

To sum up: Try the hotfix 11.5a, it seems to work, at least for me. Make sure you create a restore point before you do though (just in case).

I tried this but am still getting the same crash. 3 different machines now, and none of them can even start the game.

I also read somewhere, if you have Triple Buffering forced on in the Catalyst/NVidia Tray, the game will CTD. Try setting that option to either Force Off or Allow Application to Decide (or whatever lol)

Force disabled this, still crashes to desktop directly from Steam.

I was afraid to install the 11.5a hotfix, because some people said it made their PCs get BSODs and they had to use system restore. I didn't want to lose data from my PC. But I got desperate and installed the hotfix anyway. It didn't BSOD my vaio and Brinks now working. I couldn't get it to load no matter what, updated damn near everything on my PC. Game's still very laggy, but playable to an extent. Its good fun too. Oh, and I have those gridlines folks are talking about, but I think its because of the r_shadow 0 command in my console, now I can't get it to go away.

I joined the forums just to ask the same thing.

I can't play this and I been trying for a couple days now. Does anyone know whats going on or what?

This is making me so mad, I paid for this game and now I can't even get to a menu? Not fair at all.

Well, posting in hope of someone finding a way

If pissing and moaning were patches, this game would be uncrashable by now.

I managed to solve Brink crashing on startup for my system; the card was a Radeon HD Mobility 3650 on a Dell laptop running Windows 7 64bit. The symptom was the game starting, the initial loading splash would appear then the screen would flash and I would be returned to the desktop with brink shown to be running on the start bar. After a short time windows would report that "brink has stopped working" and after a valiant attempt to solve the problem Windows would inform me that Brink had to be closed.

I first noticed the game failed to run the normal steam first time setup, I navigated into the brink folder within steam and ran the dx setup and whatever vcredist is.

I don't think this first step hurt, but it didn't solve the problem.

My next step was to attempt to disable triple buffering as suggested by some other users. I found I was unable to launch the Catalyst Control Center that would accomplish this.

POSSIBLE SOLUTION
What did end up working was downloading a http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Secure-cleaning/Driver-Sweeper.shtml and following the instructions http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/ (I tried to download the program here as well, but was unable to) in order to get a completely fresh install of the ATI drivers. Then did a fresh install of 11.5. This also fixed the ATI catalyst Catalyst Control Center being unable to launch.

The game doesn't run terrific but it starts and plays, I have yet to try any frame rate optimization or the 11.5a hot fix

I hope this helps.

lol im loving this i get passed the rendering game context just to be told thaty brink has stopped working this game is a real piece of work if u ask me i think half of the devs just sat there and colored pretty pics on there comps and then just sold the game to the public im finding it kinda funny cuz this is the biggest fail launch in history and they were worried about losing sales from it comin out on the same day as l.a.noire they shuld have been worried about making sure crap like this wuldn t happen

I'm starting to wonder when/if this issue will be addressed. I need to hear an update from the devs addressing this specific concern, or else I'm going to have to cause a stink about this with Steam support and get a refund.

And before you say Steam doesn't give refunds; they do. I've received them before.

Same problems,I click Brink to start, notice a white box flash up(with nothing visible for a split second),no idea what it is or says, then the game starts up.It then goes through all the adverts etc etc, gets to a loading screen then nothing.....Straight to desktop with no message nothing.......Hope it gets sorted soon.I did update my graphics card using the steam tool but still the same problem.......Is it just me or is it only happening to ATI cards? or has some Nvidia users had the same issue?........................Please get this sorted ASAP ,My friends are all in game with no issues and im alone on the sideline :((((........Pre-ordered aswell which was kinda the point to play on release day,not one week later........................Maybe I should of waited and paid less cash for it :P

EDIT* I have tried the updates for the catalyst thing that people suggested, the 11.5a hotifx etc, still the same thing happening.......
