In Brink's defense...

Post » Thu Apr 21, 2011 5:18 pm

First of all, its obvious that everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I suppose that is a majority of the purpose of forum boards in the first place. That being said, unsatisfied people tend to be the most outspoken, and like others have said, most of the people who are stoked about the game are probably too busy playing it to be arguing back and forth on here.
Brink is an awesome game. Does it need a little work? Yes. Does that mean its a bad game? No. Minus the lag issues, it is a completely functional and totally fun game. To all the people incessantly flaming the game and the developers: this is not Battlefield. This is not Call of Duty. This is not Team Fortress. And this sure as hell isnt Halo. Just because this game has a learning curve and isnt all about sprinting and shooting and dying and spawning and sprinting and jumping and shooting and dying etc etc etc doesnt mean its bad. If you cant embrace the game for what it is, then dont play it. If you dont have anything constructive to post for the developers to read, do everyone a favor and leave the forums. Your e-rage matters for nothing, and no one cares what your K/D ratio on Halo is. Its a VIDEOGAME. This game is awesome, and for every one person crying about how they dont like it theres several more enjoying it. Finally, no one stole your $60. You spent it.

i think its funny you say 'minus the lag issues' when they are the primary reason that the game is currently 100% UNPLAYABLE.

I'd like to add that it's all a matter of opinion.

if it were 100% UNPLAYABLE, you wouldn't even know what was wrong with it...

Quit your [censored]ing, chances are I'm never going to play MP anyway. THERE IS A [censored] SINGLE-PLAYER MEANS OF PLAYING, believe it or not, a shooter doesn't have to be MP to be good.

But.....the not-so-smart AI teammates (and much more smarter, relentless enemy AI), lol! :D

You know, most of the people complaining about Brink are xbox owners. I have NO problem with Brink on the PC.

They can change all that with the flip of a switch, apparently. It's so that they don't steal your thunder.

Two things.

1. who would buy this for the single player experience of running with bots?

2. this is a multiplayer based game, which is great it's what I wanted except I want to easily be able to take my group of friends, go into an online game and play instead of us sneaking in one by one until 30 minutes later we've all made it, maybe.

how any multi-player focused game can not have a lobby and party system by now is beyond me

I will agree that I wish I could party up with my buds before joining a game, but I still like what they're doing with the seamless, behind the scenes matchmaking during cinematics. The status quo is stale and boring, and I welcome good, creative, fresh, against the grain ideas.

I think one of the main points of the Single-Player is that your AI team force you to complete the objectives instead of rushing ahead and winning the game for you, which would be very boring.

I would. In fact, that's what I based my preorder off: if the game was focused purely on multiplayer with no regard for SP I wasn't going to buy it. Not every country in the world can have flashy American connections, I download at [censored] 35Kbps.

And hey, after months and months of following the game with eagle eyes, reading every hands-on preview & interview and watching hours of official & leaked footage, I'm more excited now for my SINGLE PLAYER EXPERIENCE than I've been in the past 9 months.

Except stale and boring is exactly what the cut scenes become after you watch them over and over. Give me a lobby and easy access to group joining anyday.

that is a total cop out.

there is nothing creative or fresh about not allowing a group of players to get together and going online and playing if they really wanted to do the secret matchmaking they could have allowed you to party up search and then when it found a game launch the cutscene then.

Yeah, but do I have to do EVERYTHING for them, lol? :D I mean, they sometimes don't even COVER me when I'm trying my best to do the objectives.....
Well, sometimes they TRY. But there were several times they often rush in towards the enemy bots and ALL of them need my Medic powers in the first few minutes of a mission.....

Still, I am enjoying the game. It could just use some patches and DLC and it would be a much better game. It is already a good game---just needs tweaking. (For PS3, anyway).

I just need to put it in Easy mode so I can actually finish a story mission with these weird AI teammates.... ^_^

What makes you sad? My internet, my adamancy that the PS3 version is fine, my enthusiasm to play SP, what?

Tbh, I'm perfectly fine with buying a game that lets me customize a character's appearance in-depth and their loadout/skillset, then lets me loose on unwitting bots. Especially when it LOOKS as downright sixy as Brink does. The aesthetics are a total selling point for me.

I'm in the same country as Super Pangolin, but fortunate enough to be somewhere that allows me a decent internet connection. If I'm willing to spend some money on a new modem, I'll be able to get ADSL2+ (my current one is ADSL2+ compatible, but has a compatibility issue with the network), and even now I'm getting a solid 5 - 6 Mbps download speed, with 700Kbps upload. Ping's reasonable, rarely getting above 200 when connecting overseas (and I usually get 30 - 50 locally), and the highest I've seen without a fault is still under 400ms connecting to a US server.

That said, I'm more looking forward to playing offline than online, because I still have to deal with stupidly restrictive bandwidth caps (although a few companies are moving to higher limits - but they're REALLY expensive).

Then just skip them? That's what I've been doing. I'll look at what the class spread is for my team, then skip the cutscene. For the record, I do think there should be an easier way to start a fireteam before joining a match. I'm just saying that I also like the way they're doing it OTHERWISE.

I should rephrase. I mean that I like their creative approach to matchmaking and I think it could be made to work better than it is while not getting rid of it entirely.
