Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 6:14 pm

Every day I check out the twitter brinkgame and found today a small ERSB logo on the left side -> http://twitter.com/brinkgame
It seems Brink is finally rated by ESRB as "Teen" for Blood, Violence and Language.

lol, chances are, even MOE little kids will play BF3, because of it's gameplay, it's more well-known name and because it is rated M.

This might or might not have any effect on what I think of the game depending on why it is rated Teen exactly.

If its the developers attempt to reach a wider audience of younger fans for the game to make more money, then I am disappointed to see they pulled back some great stuff to make it T.

However, If the game was developed from the beginning with Teen in mind, then I don't have much to be angered at.

Don't get upset all of sudden as well, a game does not have to be rated M to be great, and if you have a problem with little kids, mute them then.

Thats what I plan to do, anyways.

lol, define "great stuff?"

Blood and Gore?
Language?
six?
Drug and alcohol use?

Could any of those have such an impact on Brink that the absence of them makes the game as a whole a lesser experience?

Well, great stuff, as in actions sequences which result in devastating effects, certain uses of gameplay that would cause the game to need a higher rating, such and such.

If I am playing an action game, I would enjoy hardcoe action, things a younger auidience might find a little harsh and disturbing.

I'm not saying the game would be a greatly reduced in experience, but if the developers had some great ideas they can't use because they were going for a T rating, then I would be a little disappointed, wouldn't you?

As I said, I will not care as long as the game is great, and well created in the Teen genre.

You do realise that most kids would rather play the games WITH the gory scenes and bloody action, right?

I've seen quite a few stores that didn't seem to bother verifying the age of the buyers, and when they do, most parents don't seem to give a rat's ass what the rating on a computer game is either... A few years ago, I was a scouts leader and introduced my kids (boys 9-11) to Warhammer. A parent came to me afterwards complaining that the box said the game was not intended for kids <11 years old, until I reminded her that her son's favorite game was Starcraft, rated Teen (thus 13+), which was alot more graphic in its violence than Warhammer could ever be...

Careful. I've already been warned once that accusing someone of trolling (even if it's blatantly true) is considered "flaming" on this forum.

Also I'm glad it's Teen. When I was gonna pre-order the game, I thought I would just walk in to Gamestop, pre-order, done. I couldn't though, I had to wait for my parent, the dude there said that it looked like it would be rated M, so yeah I waited there for a while. <_<

Now I can just walk in on realease day after school and get it without waiting an hour for my father to get there.

I actually think it makes it more respectable as a piece of art if it doesn't include those things. Games have been immature and juvenile for long enough. I think it's time for the medium to grow up.
