Brink flopped

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 8:40 pm

Watch them wait for the DLC to fix one of the worse things about Brink besides not being able to play online lag free and everything else... The [censored] texture/graphics problem.
I hope Brink didn't flop. I'm starting to think it did. No game ever gets changed to this extreme after release. Brink has too many problems and needs too many stupid little things added.
I just wanted something different from COD, BF, and Halo. I guess all Brink turned out to be was a disappointment. Change my mind. Fix the damn game.

All we can do now is hope they fix everything and add all that we want.

The textures and graphics are not really a big problem. And certanly not a major one. They need to fix everything else before they fix the looks.

The piority is gameplay. Not looks.

On consoles it sort of did. It will bounce back IF they can fix the problems soon. I guess it's doing well on PC though. It's sad really, i was looking forward to brink for a long time too.. Now I barely play it anymore... after only a couple weeks ...

If the "looks" burn your eyes then they are a major problem.

Seeing that there are at least 30 people on my PSN friends list who still actively play Brink, and we often join up every couple days to play together...no. I don't think by any means Brink was is a flop. A flop by what standards? Because it hasn't moved the same amount of units as the high profile FPS games? Not a chance. Brink is a "specialty" FPS game that isn't for everyone, whereas CoD, BF and Halo are "mass market" FPS games that anyone can pick up and generally have success in. That proves to be a blessing for Brink, because it means those of us who have stuck around are the TRUE fans of the game, and we get to have a community who appreciate the game even with it's flaws. We know they'll be fixed in time, and as the game is now, we have fun playing it.

The lag is a touch and go subject, because not everyone experiences it. As has been said numerous times, it's usually because the host has a crap connection. If you have a strong connection, host your own game and let people join in and they...as well as you...will never experience lag. The only times I've ever experienced lag on PS3 is joining games where the host has a yellow to red connection bar, of which I back out, and join another game. But like I said, most of the time I host my own, and I have no problems.

In summary, Brink is only a flop in the eyes of the people not looking at the big picture. Is the game perfect? Not at the least. But it's far from being bad as well. And with a few patches and DLC updates, those who stay with it (like myself and many of my Brink buds) will reap the benefits of an awesome game free of n00bism, because the people who will be left are the people who "get" Brink.

I have been playing Brink exclusively since I got it (except for a lil Dragons Age 2 time but thats cause it just came from my gamefly account). Even in its current state I still find it to be way more fun than CODBO. BO still has lag and that game has been out for a minute.

The lag is a problem but I simply quit any game where its rubber banding and join a new one. I also almost exclusively play against real people not real ppl and AI. I wish the Big Game and Old Skool modes would be more full of people but I can easily hop into competition games any time (PS3).

SD is releasing a patch that will hopefully adress the lag issues and are also releasing FREE DLC that includes more clothing and 3 new levels. This game hasnt even had one real patch yet so I figure that when they do release it its going to fix alot of issues.

Does no one read the posts from Gstaff? Very top of the forum, "An update on Brink". They have fixed the problem. Depending on the platform you're using to play BRINK on, you may not have the update yet. I play on the 360, they've fixed the problem over a week ago, but MS is still holding onto the update for some reason. It hasn't hit XBL yet, but should any day now. Read the post...they are working on it. People keep complaining about the same thing over and over and splash has already addressed this more than a week ago. They hear our concerns, they know our concerns and they are working hard to do something about it. Just chill. I know this game has issues and was far from a perfect release, but SD is doing their best to fix it.

the game can defiantly be improved, however, i think its too late for the game to ever be considered a success. the community will continue to dwindle. Brink will be remembered as a flop

i 100% agree with OP's complaints. The lag and texture rendering have ruined this game for me thus far, putting a lot of faith in this patch or Im gonna go try and get 20 bux at best buy. shoulda just kept playing bfbc2 and saved my money for BF3

Although I agree with what you are saying the console market is about as fickle as possible. The damage alreayd done there with Brink and will never be fixed. You might get a cult following if the game gets cheap enough and friends encourage others to pick it up but it will never be a true success. Brink suffered the same fate as Shadowrun but I recall fidning more matches on Shadowrun for a lot longer. Last night I played Brink and never went up against a team of more than 2-3 other players. The way the matchmaking system works means that Brink is already a failure on the consoles as who wants to continue to play against bots all of the time? You can't force the game to find only matches with actual players in it and the quick match only option is ridiculous for a retail game released in 2011. Brink is a fun game but it seriously missed the FPS mark.

Sadly, Brink has way more than just one problem, especially for the consoles. The matchmaking system is in dire need of an overhaul as you can only use a quick match option currently. If you leave a game with excessive lag there is a strong chance you will be thrown back into it the same game on your next attempt. You cannot get a group of friends together and then search for other teams of an equal size looking for a game. You cannot even search for games without any bots and as a result most games end up with a few players and mostly bots. I'm sorry but playing against bots is not what a competetive FPS is about. Even Monday Night Combat has more active players. The damage is done with Brink and no amount of fixing the problems will reverse the public's opinion of it.

Competitive and Old Skool playlists are bot-free.

Sorry to spoil your fun, but you're wrong.

I'll admit that it's hard to coordinate with friends though, that's a pretty annoying problem for me.

Yeah, I just found that out on the other boards. I would have never considered 'Old Skool' to be the playlist that I was looking for. Now to just try and find an easy way to assemble a group of friends into a single game.

meh, its a bit early to even speculate on "flopping" yet, yes brink has some issues but EVERY single multiplayer game that comes out anymore has about a 3-6 month patching period to fix there issues, no need to mention names here but some big games have had worse launches , the issue is this is a new IP so people are quick to move on especially on consoles, as long as SD responds to consoles in the same manner as pc than it will thrive eventually.......some games dont just burst out of the gate with success

You've been pampered with modern day graphics... Go play some original Mario.

Honestly, I don't see anything wrong with it graphical wise, sure the textures mess up every now and then, but it shouldn't bother anyone.
And yes, the AI and lag SHOULD be fix ASAP :P

Every game has problems at launch. Especially the innovative ones.
Brink has met my expectations, and then some.
I play on the PC, and aside from some lag and a wonky server list, Brink has delivered everything it promised.

Be patient.

Brink isnt bad. But when I run up to a wall and it's "Long range texture" loading loading "Mid to long range texture" loading loading "Mid to short range texture" loading loading "short range texture" there is a problem.

I don't believe they will overhaul the weapon system, and since I think that, and that I believe it is one of the more significant factors in this game's current state of popularity, the game will not ever be brought up to par with what the FPS market wants.

I personally think it's awesome, and it can only get better. I just hope it isn't abandoned by SD like how Rebellion abandoned the new Aliens vs. Predator.

I couldn't even happily vote "No, just give SD sometime" because as it stands, the PS3 version is [censored] flawless other than the AI. They don't need "sometime" because the game is great and well worth the purchase in my eyes, and the best part is that it's only getting BETTER.
