Brink is full of unfulfilled wishes.

Post » Sat May 14, 2011 3:49 am

I was so hyped for the release of this game. But..

Brink in previews was presented , or wanted to be something more than just a average cooperative game.
Brink does not work at 100% , sometimes even at fifty, and postapocalyptic Quake WARS is 2 grades better game.

Why?
What im completely missing in Brink is the atmosphere. Tales from the Ark as the last bastion of humanity in a flooded world are unfinished. In Brink you don’t feel you belong to some team. neither be entertained. You only listen boring voice from the intercom about what turned or was captured by "bad guys"
Brink has zero atmosphere because it was unable to entice the gaming environment. On the city island surrounded by the endless ocean, one would be expecting maps with apocalypse , shorelines and underwater world, but in Brink you will get only six variations of "futuristic railway station and two other maps.

General confusion
You can do objectives from different perspectives, its not only a good thing, but the problem too. Trouble is, it is hard to find arguments, why perform some tasks. Why, for example to escort NPC technique away from me 150 meters who is able to fix one turret, but because of this NPS detail I will die many times, I even don’t know where the NPS is going, so I always have to guess, it will go left or right, figure obviously cannot hit the right direction, or its lost in the crawl.

SMART
You can take full advantage of the SMART in one challegne map only. Gameplay is not affected if you use or not use SMART. Game is sometimes incorrectly evaluate the terrain, so somewhere you can jump, and elsewhere cannot? Maps in Brink were not build for SMART.
Oh no, jumping, this was a scam.

Brink therefore remains a mixture of ideas that work together to operate either little or none. Brink is like talented sportman who does not practice.
Its just a lot of ideas flushed in the toilet.

Brink's does not have to enter the legend chamber of a cooperative multiplayer. Brink is plenty of unfulfilled wishes.

Maybe i just need more time. Maybe i need to grow on Brink. Maybe...

i dont know

WHY: Go listen to the freaking Audio Logs. They actually explain a lot about what's really going on in the world.

GENERAL CONFUSION: I know what you mean, but once you play the map a couple of times you'll at least figure out the general path the NPC takes.

SMART: Um...actually all the maps are built around the use of SMART you just have to keep your eyes open for alternate routes. The best example of this is Container Town, the Resort, and Security Tower.

I never actually got the whole thing about the audio logs, I think it would have been better if they just incorporated all of that information into the story it would have made the SP campaign more interesting rather than you beating the SP and having to listen to audio logs for answers which imo give you much more insight into the story than playing the whole SP.

Time Restraint and Money. That's why. Sure they could have made these cool CG movies that explain everything, but then that would take a lot out of the actual game. They might do something like this for the DLCs or even the sequel.

Did TF2 need an epic story line? No. RED vs. BLU, thats all you need to know. You have an objective, a team, and what you created for your character. That is ALL you need. Sure the "plot" is not riveting, and driving the "atmosphere", but if that is why you play a Tact FPS, or an FPS of any sub genre, then you need to go back to Fallout, RE, and Doom (all single player I think, I stopped RE a while back), drop your copy off at GameStop, and let some one who can enjoy the team based play (that is not really driven by factions given your ability to switch factions and let you use one character for both) so we can progress as a Brink community.

Really? You expected that? I mean Brink does come pretty close but you're never going to get exactly that. Do you know how insane exactly that would be to program?

you are taking a game trailer which is CG and expecting it to go round for round with the real game? your gaming life must be full of disappointment

not to mention the fact that in the short time that the game has been out (or online for that matter as a ps3 user) i have had some experiences that closely resemble what this video makes hints at.

Personally I find myself using SMART almost constantly, to get around enemies and flank them, as well as escaping near death and getting to objectives. Brink isn't meant to play like a normal fps so just don't play it that way, run around up walls, over barriers while shooting and being generally crazy and its good times :intergalactic:

SD realizes that they have shorted us on material thats why the first DLC is going to be FREE in June. I too was disappointed but the free DLC makes up for that somewhat. I just hope its more then a couple of maps. Go play the game and have fun until then.

That's all well and fine for TF2 but the promised us a detailed story which they failed to deliver, and to all of you people who keep saying the audio logs give more to the story I have listened to all of them and they don't tell me anything that I didn't already get from the campain unless you wanna count the stuff from the people who aren't mentioned which isn't important to what's going on anyway.

I'm not bashing the game either I actually quite like it.

Really? Cause the audio logs tell me how bad it is on the main lands before the floods overtook them, the tell me the hardship people faced, the motivations of the two characters, and the sorrow that developed into hatred that Founders experience.

What do you mean you hope the DLC is more than just a couple maps? What more can you want? You are getting it free and are expecting a free DLC sequel or something?

Thats where you are wrong. I paid $60 for it. I am simply getting what I was shorted on when I bought the game. Save the "but its free" comments for someone who cares. Oh, and read my posts, you can thank ME and some others on here for YOUR "free" content. I fought for it since release day. They announced it Friday. It wasnt of their own accord. If they werent in the wrong, and know it, it wouldnt be free.

Hey, now. I think some of us are getting a little heated here, and that can't be good. Please don't post in anger - it comes across as snippy and we'd like to keep our wars off the forums and inside the servers, please!

As for Brink, it is a little different to what I anticipated, but there's still a lot to enjoy there.
