Brink Music

Post » Sun Jul 04, 2010 1:29 pm

I've heard some pretty interesting background music for menus and trailers. What is the music in Brink going to look like? Will the international theme play into the music like it plays into the writing on the walls? Will Resistance and Security have different music to listen to like they have different sound effects? Will it include pirate metal because it takes place on a huge ship?

Exactly, it is floating, ergo it is an aquatic vessel :P

As far as weapons go to my understanding the Resistant's weapons look old and rusty and sound like they have been used quite a bit because they are stolen or have been tampered with, while the Security weapons look and sound new as they are supplied by The Ark. Keep in mind the weapons as far as stats are exactly the same and no faction gets better or worse weapons in order to keep balance in the game.

I knew the weapons were the same just not in looks and sound. I was wondering if this idea carries into the music as well.

A huge ship is close enough to an artifical island.

look, a plastic bottle floats, it's an aquatic vessel! ":P"

it has some serious differences, and if you can't figure them out, refrain from ever doubting what i say.

but anyway, I can see where someone could argue that a "floating island" is technically just a large seagoing vessel, but the two terms imply completely different scales. At the very least, "floating island" is better at communicating the concept.

Very off topic here, wonder if the ARK is mobile?
Back on topic i'd like to see a good selection of music, some electro, metal, classical and RnB although i would like to listen to my own playlist.

well, the original intention of the floating island concept was to have it roam the oceans so that no one would know where it was. The refugees literally just went into the ocean randomly to try to find the last bastion of society. Obviously the large majority never found it. Whether its able to control the drifting wasn't really mentioned, but if it was just wandering on the tides i have to imagine it would eventually beach itself.

when i saw that it said "From February to July" i had though that the spring deadline was sunk, then i realized your link was posted February last year.

But anyway, nice find, anyone know what kind of music those guys specialize in?

Wrong. A ship has a way to move itself. The ark could only be moved by "ships" that towed it way out into the middle of the ocean. That's like saying the tug pulled behind a Tug BOAT is a SHIP or that a train CAR is a LOCOMOTIVE. So wrong.

Barges are considered a ship, yet some of them have to be pulled

Anyway... *rolls eyes*, from that interview it sound's like Brinks' music will be amazing and multi-cultural.

I would expect a multi-cultural feel to be a no brainier, since it takes place on the Ark.

Back then, BRINK was set to launch in Sept. 2010.

EDIT: On http://www.bobandbarn.com/downloads/index.php?page=ambient you can listen to some sound-samples btw.

EDIT: I recommend you listen to the following samples:

http://www.bobandbarn.com/downloads/force-download.php?file=ambient_human_experiments.mp3 Human Experimentation (ambient)
- I can imagine something like this for a cutscene in the sewer-area (Aquarium).

http://www.bobandbarn.com/downloads/force-download.php?file=kfc_dojo.mp3 Kung Fu Chaos: Dojo (funk)
- WIth a little less asian, but more western orchestral elements, something similar could be the campaign-opener for either faction, showing you the ARK from a great birdview.

http://www.bobandbarn.com/downloads/force-download.php?file=fusion_hillfort.mp3 Hillfort Fusion (fusion)
- this just generally fits the description of what they're working on for BRINK, imo. Also something like it could come with the finale of either faction's campaign.

http://www.bobandbarn.com/downloads/force-download.php?file=orch_primal_arella_weakening.mp3 Primal: Arella Weakening (orchestral)
- again a campaign-opening stylised theme.

http://www.bobandbarn.com/downloads/force-download.php?file=Misc%20-%20VFF.mp3 Virtual Freedom Fighters (other)
- this is not really anything specific, but I think the style would fit BRINK the most.

I like that they have a range of music that they can work on. The first clip shows that they have skill using music to effect the emotions of the listener, even without any visual elements it was quite eerie. I also like the last clip (Virtual freedom fighters). I agree that it fits Brink, but i cant imagine having anything like that during gameplay, the bass would make it hard to listen for anything in-game. So that kind of music would have to stay in cutscenes, or I would just mute the music entirely.

SD previous titles (and many other shooters) had no music during gameplay.

yep

mostly so you can hear things like footsteps, made that argument in another music thread and was told that casual players prefer to have music on anyway. Appearantly listening is for hardcoe players
