Brink at PAX

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 6:23 am

So we had a bunch of folks at the Brink Community event last night and as you can see in our pictures the line was incredible. Thankfully we had VIP Access.
We got a couple of pics from the party but unfortunately no video of the game was allowed.
We will have a write up and updates to our compendium but suffice to say the game is well polished and is going to be great. We have some interviews lined up with some SD folks today as well.

Are there 16 missions per faction? (meaning 16 maps total)

And.. There will be no footage? ._.

But new snapshots, yes?

Well, perhaps Bethesda or SplashDamage will deliver some themself?

Reads more like 8 maps with one mission per faction each.

This is the consensus on the SD forums.

if you're being spawn camped, doen't that mean the enemy team are already at your end and therefor winning by a mile?

Generally yes, but sometimes the enemy does it because your team are the guys winning by a mile and they're pulling every dirty trick in the book to turn the match around.

Or just because they have one light engineer who lays down a turret and a couple mines (aka what I will do)

I don't know what the status of mine-laying is, whether those take away half your health or just a quarter of it. Either way I have bad news for you: One light engineer and his turret will be no match for an entire team of disgruntled players. Your turret will be gone in 10 seconds under the combined assault of 2 or 3 accurate players. I will also have a grenade launcher, so the moment someone spots you, you're screwed!

Spawncamping is only a temporary setback. I'd rush them with a prepped grenade, They might get me, but they're also taking enough damage to be at a serious disadvantage from my unhappy teammates. Sometimes teamwork means taking one for the team.

Haha you'd blow yourself up before you ever got to him, friend. That's the reason he'd go light engineer, so he could plant his turret to watch his back, drop down in front of the spawn, lay a minefield, then swoop back up to the containers.

True what you said about it only being a temporary setback though.

^ This. This is why I'm looking forward to this game; look at this, we've come up with three good strategies that could be implemented in-game in a matter of seconds on an off-hand discussion of whether turrets will have different aesthetics

Where said discussion should've taken place in a different thread :whistling:

Well if the other three are just standing there and he gets 3 head-shots in a row then it's possible. But you're taking that statement as literal, because unless he had a drum magazine on his SMG there's no way he could have killed all of them as soon as he entered the room. He probably killed one guy coming in through the door, slid behind cover and took out another guy, then threw a grenade and killed the last guy. Or maybe he threw the grenade as he entered, who knows?

Also, who's to say he didn't just incapacitate all of them, then move around and melee? Unless you have the downed fire perk (which I seriously doubt anyone had at PAX) you're basically dead as soon as you drop.

Also "spray" doesn't exactly suggest instantaneous death for the victim. For all we know he may have used most of his ammunition reserves on those 3 players, and at the time they might have been disoriented, or just incompetent.

If you're good you can easily take out 3 enemies with a single mag. Even in W:ET this was possible. Just do massive amounts of headshots.

From what I heard the lag was just at the community event there wasn't lag on the actual floor at PAX. If so that is very good news and means it wasn't because of the game or netcode.

Thanks! :)
It's nice to hear people's comments at these events.
From what I hear, the game is shaping up to be really good.

I'm going to assume the spawn situation is a temporary setback as well. I don't think you can really get rid of spawncamping entirely in any game (but then again, I never played online). There will always be people doing annoying things in multiplayer. But I like that the Brink devs are trying to reduce that as much as (humanly) possible. ^_^

^Ooh, I like this Stern comment, " Hell, you could play the entire game without firing a single shot, and spend it buffing and healing your teammates." I really, really want to try that, lol! :D I love to roleplay healers in many games.

yea its only readable at 1920 ..we have a variable resolution template that will fix that problem soon.

We did a splash damage interview yesterday in 1080p in a private room but ther eis so much background noise you can't hear anything so we may have to just transcribe if we can;t clean it up.
We have a ton of vids up but not really for brink. We aren't allow to take video. Our writeups and interviews we will put up this week and hopefully the resoluton problem will be fixed by then. There are some pics of the community event in the gallery and more will be up.

I guess you used the camera-microphone?

Afaik you can always shoot. Well, not while reloading or being incapacitated (without an ability, that is), but in every other situation.
