@Nate: Doesn't need to be realistic. It just needs to be balanced, and fun. If pistols svck then nobody will use them. They need to be a viable choice in combat, or the devs will have wasted creating 7 different sidearms. Although you are right, on the other hand. They probably have crap range, for the most part.

I wonder how well a person could snipe with a properly pimped-out revolver...

I kind of have a problem with that. It just isn't realistic being able to hit people with a pistol from 30+ yards away. In games, the weapon with the most open sights is usually the most advantageous, while in real life, it makes things a hell of a lot harder to hit anything at range. As a Canadian Mounty once said after their MP5s were taken away "It's hard as hell to hit anything with a handgun".

I know a woman who has 100% accuracy at around 20 yards, and about 80-90 at 50. Mind you all she ever does is spend time at the range.
A Mountie is more trained in all aspects of ass kicking, so I suppose most soldiers or forces similar would probably less accurate (especially ordinary citizens like the Resistance), however I doubt ranges will go much further then 30 yards in most scenario's anyways.

So make damage drop off at range, although I suspect many weapons are going to have difficulty hitting after a certain range anyways. I have no problem with limitations to weapons as long as they aren't excessive (i.e. a pistol can kill somebody just as easily as an SMG if I hit you with the first few rounds). Some of the limitations, however, need to be on the player.

Pocket M16, what what?

Pocket M16 that can also be dual-wielded with decent hip fire accuracy before steady aim. If that isn't balanced, I don't know what is.

That, and the damn thing is quick to switch to.

I think it's good to note that some revolvers can use some fairly beast rounds, so it would be cool to see some high damage dealing revolvers, but I doubt there will be many.

as far as i know. there are only two revolvers in the game. the caesar revolver from the psycho pack. and another, larger revolver that comes with the game.

ok so these pistols maybe better or just exclusive skinned or looks

Me too. But I have a hunch that the Caesar Revolver is just a reskinned Sea Eagle.

This is what I was thinking. Basically the same pistol, because of stats. But the model/texture is replaced.

I doubt that is the case. The other bonus packs specifically specify that they offer SMG "skins," while the Psycho and Spec-Ops packs say "weapons."

he could mean a different model, same specs excluding mag size. though that doesn't make sense to me, the revolver should do more dmg per bullet than the semi due to lower round count.

If the Caesar and Hockler were just reskins, then there would be no reason to make them available to both sides.

Besides, if the Caesar is a reskin, it would be of the unnamed revolver, not the Sea Eagle.

Anyway, back to the original topic, SD has made pistols effective in past games. A skilled engineer in W:ET could own with pistols.

Pistols work well in CoD, like any weapon it needs to be used at the right range.

I'd like to see Pistols get better treatment in videogames.

Pistols in Brink should work great because of all the free running. They would be the perfect weapon for the light classes.

Yeah, your'e right. My mistake. I still don't think it will be as much of a difference as CoD for example however.
The pistol properly named the 'Commando' (Magnum in game) when it was used here in the U.S. primarily by police and MP, is a lot more powerful in CoD than the others.

So hopefully they don't make that mistake.

IIRC, the weapons weren't exclusive... just early grabs. Don't quote me on that though :x

I like the look of the Ceasers revolver, the snub nose look just gives it a ridiculous look that makes me want to run around with it.

SD have said (On Twitter, I believe) that the pre-order weapons have unique stats, but that they won't unbalance the game in any way.

I can trust them easily enough on the first point, and we'll just have to wait and see on the balance side of things. If they get the stats right, it should be fine.

and if not im sure they can just swap some values on the fly with the necvar system so that any unbalance is quickly corrected.
God im excited for this game
