Brink Publicity

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 8:57 am

Given Bethesda's past games and release "style" (if you will) how do you think they will go about releasing Brink?

Will we see commercials, will it be word of mouth from the dedicated fan base, or a plethora of online videos?

From what I gather Bethesda is pretty excited about working with Splash Damage, and is uber proud of Brink (and rightly so).

With release creeping ever closer, what do you think we'll see regarding this amazing game?

I voted other, because I think most publicity will come from both the second and the third.

When the first gameplay vid's are going to be on youtube (I hope through machinima, because they reach a huge audience even though I don't like most of their content) a lot of people will think: Hey, look! You have parkourstyle movement and fast paced action and a storyline in MP! Let's buy it (Okay, a little exaggeration :P)

Besides that, fans will scream all over the internet to persuade their friends. Or at least a lot of people will talk about it.

Last but not least, I think websites like IGN will also have a big amount impact on publicity.

I think they'll do what's effective.

How's that for a non-answer?

Marketing a game is a tough call. I've been telling every person I know about it, and I would rather see them put the millions from T.V. marketing into development. I hope everyone on this forum is telling their friends about it. The game will sell itself once people actually see it(I mean im drooling just from the videos).

I don't expect to see commercials, its spending a lot of money and not necessarily to your target audience, maybe if it were on a channel like G4. I just expect pretty much any type of game press to be running stories about it. Its 4-5 months from release, and most magazines and blogs have already said something about it. By the time the release date comes around i have a feeling that most people that frequent gamer websites or magazines to hear about it.

I don't exactly want publicity for Brink. I think the community we have here is great, and would much rather try to avoid campers and ninjas and griefers and ect, ect, ect.

I for one am definitely telling every one of my friends about it. Unfortunately my claims usually fall on deaf ears since they are all obsessed with Black Ops. But oh well their loss.

But I do believe that Brink will be advertised through commercials in 2011. Bethesda advertised F:NV with a lot of commercials and I think Brink has the potential to be the Fallout of it's genre (lets hope not as buggy). One of my friends who just got New Vegas said that he got a flier in his copy advertising Brink. I do love our little community here but I still think SD deserves the recognition for this revolutionary game.

Ya New Vegas does come with a flier in it for Brink, smart move on Bethesda's part there.

Splash Damage does deserve something, if Brink takes off they will get a lot of recognition in the gaming industry.

I like what ubisoft did with assassins creed brotherhood. Release millions of videos and make one for t.v because you only need one or two for television, after all more gamers go on youtube by the looks of it.

It's all about knowing the consumer. That was a brilliant move on Ubisoft's part, and the UPlay is an excellent example of an innovative marketing tool. It encourages you to buy more Ubisoft games since one can earn unlockables through the achievements.

I personally am planning to do some commentary-stuff on BRINK gameplay. That is, if I get into that whole commentary thing sooner or later. After all, people will decide if they like average gameplay, or only hunger for super-duper KDRs.

The http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0lVqF_hxBs for the very first Assassin's Creed was soooo good!

Lol im in the same boat as you when it comes to my friends and Black Ops. but, as much as it pains me to say it, the story line was... pretty damn good, not gonna play multiplayer thou. And yes lets hope its not as buggy as :fallout::NV. I personally think that they are gonna give commercials a couple of weeks before the release of Brink. That or its just gonna be spread through fans and Brink seems to have a lot of fans. I mean a two hour waiting line has to say something right?

That TV spot was amazing, and I definitely think that some commentary work could help showcase the game in a positive light.

Like I said I would rather the reviews speak for themselfs when the game releases, and Brink saves the millions on air time around the globe for developing more content. Most gamers subscribe to a magazine, at the least read a web page, and if Brink can really do what I've seen and read, its going to get 5/5, 10/10, Editors choice picks across the board. That will bring the sales, and save lots of $$.

I boo all of my CoD friends, and fans out there. I cannot support a game that has a yearly target release date, and 2-3 "map packs", betweem each release. To me that shows a money leech, not gamers making games. People keep buying it though, so they keep pumping that crap out. They have the #1 and #2 entertainment(movies, video games, anything) release of all time, and still refuses to budge from a yearly release date to do something really innovative. Its just more of the same, little different format. I highly doubt they have started with fresh programming since MW1, if not before that(each game has had the same glitches on release, you notice that?).

If all of our hopes are right and Brink gets amazing reviews you don't know how great it will feel to tell all the COD freaks that Brink is better than their beloved Black Ops. And you know what Bethesda won't be paying for good reviews either like a certain publisher, *Cough* Activision *Cough*. Black Ops they said was better in many ways than MW2 but it got a lower grade by IGN is that a little weird.

But from what I've heard from people who has played Brink at expos it's basically what SD said it would be. SD isn't going to pull a Fable on us, I hope.

I lost trust in Peter Molyneux after Fable 1. Splash still has my support after the gem that was Quake Wars, and I'm sure they will just continue to improve.

A game that literally has a targeted yearly release date (Nov 9th, 2009, MWF2. Nov 10th, 2010, Black Ops), I just cannot support. The lead designer and a LOT of the studio had a legal battle with Activision over royalties, and they left the company to create their own. I believe all CoD games now have to be before the 1960's? It was in Game Informer 6 months or so ago, not sure the speicifc time era, but they are limited to what they can publish in CoD because the creators own the rights to the rest(they had some sort of deal, and that is what came out of the lawsuit).
Another frightening thing is the Blizzard-Activision merger. That creeps me out big time.
I also lost faith after the super hype of Fable 1. It would of been a good game, if I wasnt expecting what they said it was going to do. It maybe had half of what they said. It is one thing to be over ambitious on design, but don't publicly state it and then not deliver. "Bad form Peter, bad form"

SD had an ambitious design, but chose to keep extending the deadline (twice) instead of releasing half of the game they wanted to, like what happened with Fable. While having to wait an extra year obviously svcks, I would much prefer this route. There are always other games to play while you wait.

I agree, I would much rather wait and have some amazing game than have a sub-par offering.

I want to see saturation publicity for Brink, , push the free run capability, shooting while sliding, climbing obstacles, all of it. Make it the "must have" game of the year. Only then will there be enough money and publisher interest to keep the game patched and the players happy

I'm actually curious about what Yahtzee from The Escapist is going to say about Brink, because I fully expect most reviews to be full of compliments. Yahtzee tried complimenting a game once, but his fans find it boring, so he now makes a habit of finding everything to complain about even when he thinks a game is amazing.

I always thought the point of those was just to point out what was wrong with a game...I've never thought of them as real reviews as much as comedy pieces.

lulz at myself.

Never checked them out, for reviews I always do Game Informer (for the article) and IGN (for the video review).
