Brink to be rated T For Teenagers?

Post » Mon Aug 30, 2010 12:05 pm

Only argument I see good is the language for campaign. Anything else not really, brink isn't type of game where fountains of blood would be good, and don't think we need cursing in multiplayer considering it'd be annoying hearing characters cursing 24/7 for no reason.

There was a topic nearly half a year ago about this so I made a fresh topic that had a poll and such.

I personally feel T is the best choice, bigger community, and even if you do M, younger players will still play. Just look at CoD and Halo, rated M yet full of younger players still. Also, I don't really care for six, nudity, intense blood and gore, torture, and etc that makes games rated M.

I'll do a pros and cons list as well, will add what I feel are good arguments.

Pros
  • Bigger Community

Cons
  • Younger players
  • No six, nudity, intense blood, and torture.

People underage will still get it.

But think of it from a business pov

Compare how many who haven't played a game because it was rated M and people who haven't played a game because it didn't have cursing in it for a FPS.

SOME People underage will still get it.

Fix'd

Yes, underage players will still be in games with an M rating, but not as many as there would be without that rating.

I was still underage when checking for ID became common practice for buying M games. When I asked my parents to buy an M game for me (with my money), they would ask why it was rated M. That is what all parents should do. It is then up to them if they want their child to play that game. This is also why I don't understand how parents can get up an arms about mature games that they bought for their kids.

Parents shouldn't even ask the chikd why it is M rated. They should find out for themselves. Besides, it says why it's rated M or w.e. on the back of the box.

For me personally my mom asked me why, and I would tell her. Only games she was skeptic about was saints row, GTA, and resident evil. Saints Row took a lot of persuading, but GTA and RE were easy, since all they really have in them is language and blood, but that's a typical middle schoo/high school language wise but not as bad. You've see blood since you were born.

GTA has way more than just blood and language. How about drug/alcohol use, partial nudity, and prostitution?

GTA's violence added to its succes in the first place. A nephew of me got vice city when he was 6 years old. At that age I didn't even had a gameboy nor did I ever hear about it.

Correct. Vice City at 6 years old? Wow...I'm sure he didn't even understand half of the story.

I'd like it to be free of 15 year olds. That's wishful thinking, but whatever. Rating a game M definitely does cut down on kids that age though.

It's all about the player's maturity and self control. I've been playing GTA since I was I was in elementry school and I always knew difference between a game and real life.

Yea, but some people get obsessed by the violence. I'm not saying that they will be violent in real life, but they will start playing even more violent games. I heard stories about children of 8 years old who stay up the whole night to play games where it's all about dismembering people.

Unfortunately that hasn't been the case with all children.

Ah GTA that takes me back, theres nothing quite like beating a hoker to death with a purple six toy, while shouting 'oh the irony!!!'

Anyway in the UK it will be a 15 or 12, (games in the uk use the same classifications as films)

Most young people wouldn't know what it is, they could easily think it's pixy sticks and apple juice. Partial nudity, look at any public place, especially beach, and you don't actually see prostitution.

No, actually it usually increases it.
To most 15 year olds, playing a T game is like an insult to their manliness.
