Brink SDK?

Post » Thu Aug 13, 2009 12:31 pm

I was just wonder if there will be a "Brink SDK" because I think it will be a BIG improvement to the game if we can make are own maps, gamemodes and more.
Also if there where to be a "Brink SDK" would you use it?

i can't get along with stuff like that.
it might be nice to have but i'm not so sure if it'd be very easy to make maps for brink...

It wouldn't be that hard to makes maps for Brink, I see your point how it would be hard because of the small details, but you only need to make blockes and give them textures, not hard.

Ah the bit where the level designers designed the map so everything could be interacted with, so they made every object, wall etc to be used with SMART, so a user will be very hard at work to do the same. I dont levels is a good idea, but for skins and other small mods it would awesome.

Even thoguh im not on PC so it dont matter

It may be more difficult to make maps for Brink than say, Counter Strike, but more impressive feats in modding have been accomplished.

based on Splash Damage's previous games a SDK is likely, but not till after release and possibly after first patch (if one is neccessary)

Mapping and modding will be difficult for all but the dedicated, It can take weeks/months just to get a playable map, it can take years to get a usable conversion/mod, but there are hundreds of dedicated people, you have to try it and figure out if you want to invest the time and energy

The same can be said for making a map for almost any game though, the custom TF2 maps that valve accepts had almost their own formal development cycle including prodigious amounts of testing by the creators who had to enlist the help of friends in the community to play through their maps.

I hope SD does release one, I'm not a mapper myself but I can imagine the possibilities if the SMART system can be implemented well on custom maps. There could be challenge and speed maps, racing mods and all kinds of interesting stuff not to mention quality maps for fighting in.

This is the deciding factor for me, whether or not I'm going to buy the game.

Not that I would map myself a lot, but I know there are many modders out there who would. Also I would love to see classic gametypes in game like ctf or tdm.

I think they should make a FULL editor for the ones who want it, when i say full I mean like gamemodes, stories, skins, maps and guns.
But I really don't think it would be hard to get a simple map to work with the SMART system, you just have to think about what the player will do so you can judge what you want extra SMART features on your map.
And it wouldn't be hard to make a little extra ledg for example, but it might take long to think aout EVERY single thing possale they might do to get around with SMART.
My point being as I said at the start, only for them who want it.

There is many people who will spend months on a map just to make it :P
With the SMART system I would love to see people making jump maps to put our skills to the test :D

+1 for racing. Actually I think Splash Damage could make race gametype themselves: it's relatively easy and there is always huge appeal for racing/climbing maps.
