Brink Server Fatal Error

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 5:05 am

I just finished doing an AMD to Intel CPU switch replacing all the necessary parts and I have been having a few issues with errors. So far I have had two BSODs; one PFN_LIST_CORRUPT and one MEMORY_MANAGEMENT but both have only happened once. Having said that I just now had a "Fatal Error" with the Brink server and I'm starting to think my RAM is bad or is Brink in need of some patching?

This is what the error displayed if it is of any help -

Asus P8P67 Rev. 3
G.Skill Ripjaws X Series DDR3 F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL
ATI 5870 11.5a drivers
Samsung Spinpoint F3

PS: I already had the 5870 and the PSU (Corsair 750tx) but all else is brand new. All parts are stock settings with no overclocking at the moment.

UPDATE:
It seems every time I go in to customize my character it crashes with the "Fatal Error: could not decompress data"

UPDATE2:
I have successfully changed my character's looks except for one slot, the jacket slot. Every time I select jacket then mouse over a new one it crashes. The current jacket my guy is wearing is "The Jesse" and if I try to change that jacket to tank or any of the others it will crash with the "fatal error unable to decompress" tag.

UPDATE3:
After further attempts I was able to mouse over other jackets but as soon as my cursor mouses over the "Tank" jacket the game crashes every time and so far i'm stuck wearing "the jesse" jacket.

sounds like you got some probs, is it happeneing in any other games as well? I wouldnt try to keep messing with it if it keeps crashing like that. There is an obvious conflict some where, besides the fact that your machine looks custom built if its not hardware that is malfunctioning and it would be this if its happening in any other games which I doubt is the case here, I would think there is some software drivers or maybe a virus or trojan you have stumbled onto, these things can cause fatal errors like this or registry errors.

Basiclly you need to reinstall windows and start fresh I would assume. I was told by a old friend, and I kinda agree, that if your an avid gamer, you should delete and reinstall and start anew every 6 months to keep things fresh and problem free. Seems were not in the days of windows xp any more where you can keep one OS running for years at a time, win 7 requires things to be kept clean otherwise you will have problems.

Thanks for the reply and tip. I did build this pc myself and I had all drivers / applications I needed on my psp and just used it via usb connect to swap the installers from one pc to another to avoid unsafe web browsing.

So far only Brink keeps giving me the fatal error "could not decompress data." I do have FFXIV installed and so far it has yet to crash although I do not play it much; I also have Flatout Ultimate Carnage from Steam that I tried playing but kept getting some kind of data error saying data did not match but Flatout is not unknown to have problems and it's not exactly a new game (made in 2008).

I've been playing Brink today and it crashed once while loading the 5th day map for Security side but other than that it runs good. I might just have to bite the bullet and reinstall windows and download, rather than use the psp, to get my installers / apps.

Other thoughts:

I was also thinking if my HDD or RAM is busted would I not suffer BSOD and constant fatal errors on everything? PFN_LIST_CORRUPT happened one time at random I believe and the MEMORY_MANAGEMENT BSOD was actually a shutdown attempt so the PC was not doing anything, other than shutting down; but nothing has happened for days now other than game related stuff such as the Brink crashes.
