Brink zombies

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 11:01 pm

I agree, zombies would be good DLC but saying it has no room in Brink is straight up [censored].

Dude, I'm surprised they even included control schemes from other FPS games, much less naming them as hints to what game they're based on. Actually incorporating a mode, the name of which goes hand-in-hand with what the Call of Duty franchise has become, is ludicrous. You might as well ask that the "bad guys" be call the Covenant and for a mysterious G-Man to haunt every other cut-scene.

I'm serious, talk about "that shooter game with the zombie mode", and ten out of ten times, the only responses you'll get are "Call of Duty" and "I don't play video games".

Just because CoD is the most well-known game with a zombie mode doesn't make it good and if I'm understanding your point correctly (which isn't very clear to begin with) just because CoD has a zombie mode nothing else can? Is that right? Cuz' that goes back to my point about disliking something because it's "mainstream" makes you look like an arrogant hipster. I've yet to see one person argue the actual gameplay mechanics of why it wouldn't work as opposed to openly bashing the concept because "its been done before" or because "it doesn't fit the Brink universe." I'd be happy with people arguing about the effect on teamplay or balancing or some other major issue but so far its been 3 pages of "lol no."

Really? We're still discussing this?
(Four pages long too...)

Fine, How about I re-hash some quotes to show how the Veterans of the Brink forums feel...

No, zombies are overdone.

Because many of the new people come up with ideas that don't really integrate well with the idea of Brink. Brink is trying to stray from the norm of other FPSs and a mode like zombies won't help.

OMG we shuld add JETPACKS. There soo epic. :slap:

As awesome as zombie's may be, I completely agree with you - they don't need to show up in every game. Especially not when they've only been thrown in as a gimmick

Zombies? Really? How about we take away all the customization, parkour, classes, body types, and everything else that makes Brink a much needed breath of fresh air in the FPS genre and just rename it Call of Duty: Brink.

Just no. Seriously can't come up with a decent thread?

Please take all these negative comments into consideration..

"We" do not want Brink zombies. However, you are entitled to your opinion and are allowed to want Brink zombies.

End of discussion.

To be fair, somebody did make the point that your average zombies might have trouble with the SMART system.

I don't get the interest in a zombie mode, or the hate for the mode either. It's a shooter and I'd rather have my enemies packing. I don't mind wave modes, but as my friend often points out when discussing CoD, if there's no end there's no point. Give me a mode to fight through with my team and I'll do it, but let it be something more legit than what CoD offers in the way of zombie mode.

What I'm saying is that anything like a zombie mode is not what Splash Damage is trying to accomplish with Brink. Brink is huge. It's a dark horse. It's a genre-killer. The little "for poops and giggles" modes are a waste of disc space that's being used to make Brink: huge, a dark horse, and a genre-killer.

Don't say my point isn't clear. I really can't speak any lower than kindergarten. Because you don't accept it as a viable explanation doesn't mean that it's some cryptic means of acting like a hipster or pretending whatever I say goes.

Read more about Brink. Watch more videos and interviews. When you understand what Splash Damage is accomplishing, you'll see that adding anything that just wastes time, not even specifically zombies, is only working against what makes Brink so incredible.

I don't accept your "viable explanation" because its not anything that could be considered viable. Your major point against zombies in Brink is that it's been done before as if that's some be all end all. And I've read quite a bit about Brink and what SD is trying to accomplish. Why would a zombie mode be a "[censored] and giggles" kind of addon if its done correctly? Its a completely new mechanic in terms of gameplay and strategy but apparently people are too fixated on the abortion that is CoD zombies as if its the only game with a zombie mode. I'm not asking for this mode to be packaged with release because that would be a waste of time. At least with DLC the people interested could purchase at their leisure. So my question to you is, what is your view of Brink that it would be totally smashed by a zombie mode? I understand the desire to make a game that's new and unique but when you limit yourself to such adjectives you end up with a game that's narrow-minded and bland.

Edit: Drop_Dead please don't label the majority as the voice of the forum. "We" do not all agree.

Zombies don't do objectives, and there are no shovels or chainsaws (preferred methods of Zombie dispatch) in Brink, so I say nope, no Zombies

At no point in this thread did I stress that as a reason. Yes, I have noted that zombies has been done before, and that it's almost entirely associated with the Call of Duty games. That's not my reason why.

I really don't know how else to phrase the point I've made at least four times. It's late, I'm drained of creativity, and I'm feeling a movie right about now. So, forget about zombies. The only thing Brink needs that it doesn't have is female characters. Sure, Splamage's own take on some "fight waves of ____ until you die" mode might be fun and interesting. I don't doubt they have the creativity to suture it into the storyline flawlessly. But it's pointless. It does nothing to push Brink closer to what Splash Damage wants it to be. It would be a waste at this point. If we were anticipating a sequel that's building off the foundation Brink is laying down, I might love a "fight waves of ____ until you die" mode. I might beg for a Brink 2: Chess Mode. Some Brink 2 spin on Frogger might just make me wet myself. My point remains: it does nothing to push Brink closer to what Splash Damage wants it to be.

I'm spent. I sincerely don't care whether I've made my opinion clear yet. It's movie time. Peace.

Then perhaps I'm not understanding what you're saying and perhaps you're in the same boat with my point. My idea for a zombie mode would not be "fight waves of ____ until you die" because that would just be CoD zombies which as I've said is.. well frankly.. CoD zombies is [censored]. I have no doubt SD could come up with a creative, objective-based zombie mode on lieu with the current Brink design. And as for what SD want's Brink to be, unless you work for them I can't imagine you have any closer of an idea of what they want than the rest of us. I've said my fill so I'm going off to play some Split Second. Evening 'gents.

P.S. (As for female characters... do you really wanna see what a female heavy would look like?) :cryvaultboy:

Well borderlands had a zombie DLC, which added a entirely new story and new maps for that story, it was not a mode, Red dead redemption has a zombie DLC named "Undead nightmare" which added a whole new storyline, items, weapons, etc. and online it added a zombie survival mode which was unlike nazi zombies and any other zombie survival mode im aware of.

So yeah zombie stuff did fit in those games, but its how it was done, im not saying we should have an entirely new zombie storyline for Brink, or a "what if" series of missions, and im not saying to add a zombie survival mode, it just does not fit in Brink, and this is coming from me, a huge zombie killing fan, and one of the best players on nazi zombies :gun: .

I've been on the forums for awhile (or awal) and I think, if done correctly (Not a rip-off of CoD zombies), that it could be a cool feature. Almost positive that it's not going to happen, but if they spent their time with it it could be fun.

when it comes to features, I almost always say yes, because there's no point not including something. I wouldn't use it, but others will sort of mentality, but zombies just doesn't seem right for Brink. If you can use acrobatic skills to get to places they could never reach, then the zombies lose any sense of being a threat, so what's the point?

IMPORTENT:the way you could make a zombie objective is something like save the 5 sitisens from the zombies and get them to the safezone while trying to keep the zombies from the safezone

I'm pretty dumbfounded cause of the arguments for both sides. Let's take a look a t some that don't have to do with "Cause it doesn't fit the game" excuse.

- Zombies aren't suppose to do Parkour.
- I don't want an endless survival round mode.
- Other shooters (COD mainly) have done it before.

I'm not going to continue, since those reasons are the main ones that bother me.

A. Zombies can do whatever they want, there aren't concrete rules that define zombies aside from being moving carcasses with a desire for living flesh. So let's not get all "I think zombies are these and that, and anything outside my definition is wrong and it ain't a zombie" cause it's dumb, and proves that you lack any form of imagination.

B. Why does it have to be an endless round of zombies until you die? I mean is it hard to come up with some objectives like say;
Main Objective: Discover the reason behind the violent outburst within the refugees/ Defend yourselves from the inhumane Security forces assault
Secondary Main Objective: Reach the extraction zone/ Find a way to escape
Roles objectives: find a survivor and get information, reconstruct(or remove) debris from a door, etc, etc.

It isn't hard coming up with ways include plausible objectives in a such a mode. Make it like a What if story with it's own twist. SD has already said that some of the maps for SP/MP are already "What If...." scenarios. So why deny an entire alternate story with new possible objectives, and themes?

C. Other games have done Zombies, but most shooters just boil it down to shoot till ya can no more, or reach the end (No strings attached aside from surviving hordes of zombies like L4D). That doesn't
mean that Brink can't come out with their own zombies without being generic or something like that. Zombies ain't something that belongs to a specific game franchise.

So now that it is pointed out... I'll say this. I too love zombies, but I'm not here asking SD to put zombies or anything, I just wish to point out such a thing as a Zombie mode that works great on Brink can work fine if SD desires to do so, and make it as unique as the main game.

Well I guess those are my two cents for this topic.
