ow i broke my hotkeys :[

Post » Wed May 25, 2011 4:51 pm

hiya! so long story short i have a bajillion mods, mainly for vanity/animation/UI, and i made the dire mistake of messing with the enhanced hotkeys mod. worse, i messed with another hotkeys mod, called "hotkey casting", right after. so after deleting the enhanced hotkeys INI file and installing the uninstall file (yes i read the readme, i promise) um.. i have no hotkeys. none whatsoever. i figured oblivion would create a new INI file for it once all the mods were uninstalled, but.. yeah, no dice.

i wasnt able to get enhanced hotkeys to work for me in the first place, hence the uninstall. but ONE hotkey is better than none, i think. can anyone think of how to restore to the default hotkey situation without reinstalling? help this nice lady out!! :D http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/9639/prettylady.jpg

btw, if anyone is around from like.. 5 years ago.. this is morrowench. any brash, canadianice, pseron, etc? maybe? :D

edit - um.. if this isnt a troubleshooting forum, or if i wasnt supposed to ask about this mod here, please forgive me. i didnt see any other likely place for it. :(

You need to use a special uninstall file in order to get your hotkeys working again. You'll find it in the same place you got the mod from.

Sorry, it's just that I ran into the same situation myself and jumped to conclusions. The uninstall file fixed my problem though. Have you tried deleting your ini file and letting the game generate a new one?

I think Belanos is talking about the Oblivion.ini - not the Enhanced Hotkeys one. Anyway, you say you were "installing the uninstall file" and that you followed the readme, but you don't mention using the console so just want to double check that you followed the entire uninstallation process:

If un-installing Enhanced Hotkeys, one special step must be taken afterwards: The keyboard buttons bound to the 8 standard hotkeys must be re-assigned to keyboard buttons 1-8. To do so, download the EH Uninstallation zip file and unzip the contents (one txt file without any .txt tag, named EHuninstall) to your Oblivion (not Oblivion/data) folder.

Then, after having disabled Enhanced Hotkeys.esp, start up your game, open the console and type RunBatchScript EHuninstall. This will re-adjust your hotkeys back to 1-8, and you can delete the EHuninstall file afterwards.

Exactly, the one that's in the Documents folder as well. Not the one in the install directory.

sorry, i shouldve been more specific. yeah, i just mean to say i followed the readme. ive posted this in a few other places and i guess i forgot to say that this time. i didnt realize he meant the oblivion.ini.. kind of terrified to delete that one since i have eleventybillion mods going on. im not sure what horrors deleting it would produce. honestly tho, i really can live without hotkeys. im not playing a mage this time around, so.. i really do appreciate everybody's help though. <3

Now, you could have posted this in Enhanced Hotkeys thread here, instead of posting it in several places where I don't see it...

You can manually edit your Oblivion.ini file back to normal hotkeys, instead of deleting all of it: Look for the section starting with "Quick1=..." in the ini, and make sure it says:
Quick1=0002FFFFQuick2=0003FFFFQuick3=0004FFFFQuick4=0005FFFFQuick5=0006FFFFQuick6=0007FFFFQuick7=0008FFFFQuick8=0009FFFF

Then save. Oblivion tends to be a bit picky about when to actually save the ini file, which is probably why the uninstall script sometimes fail to stick.

I'm inside the troubleshooting, etc. forums on TESNexus probably less than once a week, though I check all my own mods for comments there most days.

Yes, what I listed, are for the 1-9 keys. :)
