I broke it! :(

Post » Tue Apr 27, 2010 12:07 am

I guess I should first point out that I'm using the Steam version of Morrowind, so my file path is different (it's C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\morrowind). That could make a difference.

Anyway, I managed to break Morrowind again after just having done a clean install yesterday. It was working pretty well (although some mods that didn't use ESPs just weren't doing anything) until I started moving things around with Wrye Mash, and now it's not working at all.

Also, the load order I have setup in Wrye Mash hasn't carried over to my Morrowind config file and I don't know why (which could be the problem?). So when I post the mod list my load order's going to look scrambled and just nonsensical, but I assure you it doesn't look that bad in Wrye.

So apparently there's some problem with Better Clothes that I wasn't having before, and I'm not sure what the other error is from.
My save file just stopped working altogether, so I tried starting a new game and Jiub's head is missing. Guess there's something wrong there too.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, because this is getting frustrating.

Foot/ankle errors for Better Clothes are normal (my warnings text file keeps disappearing, so I can't compare the two to see if those are typical errors, but I think they are), but I don't recall getting any about Soti meshes. I just checked my mesh folder and didn't see Soti meshes anywhere, so I don't think that one's better clothes. Judging by the Dre part of the name, that may mean Dreamers (Soti's Better Dreamers, http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=5056 )

I know its not in your mod list, but did you run it before?

I haven't used it, though it's possible one of the face packs I downloaded is using Soti's Dreamer meshes.

That might be it. It may be looking for the mesh in the wrong place (I only have a vague idea of how to fix that, being new to modding as it is) or missing from your face pack?

Possibly. It could have something to do with me downloading multiple face packs. Some literally just weren't doing anything (some NPCs would have new faces, but most were using defaults), although I know I installed them properly. Same with Visual Pack XT and a few other texture replacers.

Maybe I'll just reinstall and try yet again.

I'd try reinstalling and maybe creating a new char to see if you still experience crashes on it (if it does, then its not just your save trying to find something that doesn't exist).

@mollygos
Since you're using the Steam version of Morrowind, did you remember to backdate the base bsa files to year 2002? It's needed so that replacer mods will be recognized otherwise the base files get priority due to the fact that they inherit the datestamp of the bsa, and that datestamp will be when you installed the steam version.

You can get the correct load order in Wrye Mash by doing the following:
* Open the 'Saves' tab
* Select the current save
* Right click on the lower right frame that lists that save's plugins
* Select 'Copy List' then paste to your post

I guess I could try that. I think I'll just mess around with some of the face pack mods and see if that fixes the problem, since it seems to be the source.

Question though: If Wrye Mash says the load order goes a certain way, and Morrowind.INI has it all scrambled...is that bad? What can I do about that?

@tetchy
Ohh, no I didn't. That's actually really helpful, thanks!

No worries there, the INI file does not list the plugin files by load order, they get listed alphabetically there. There is no way to change that, so don't worry yourself on it :)

Ohhh. Wow, I probably should've noticed that. haha
Thanks.

edit:
I'm silly. I didn't install The Facepack Compilation to go along with The Morrowind NPC Makeover, and therein lies my missing-heads problem.

Still, I backdated the Morrowind, Tribunal and Bloodmoon BSAs to 2002 and I'm still not seeing the effects of some texture packs.

Couple of things:

018 Book Rotate - Morrowind v1.1.esp
You don't need this as you have Tribunal and Bloodmoon. Check the readme

026 Key Replacer MW.esp
027 Key Replacer Trib & BM.esp
You only need #027, check the readme

Where do all those "MN_*_Vampires_*.esp" plugins come from?

Oh, thanks. I probably should check readmes more often.

The Vampire esps are from Vampire Visages. It just came with a [censored]ton of ESPs for each race-- to be honest, I probably didn't load those properly either. I'll check the readme.
