Broken Steel's installation somehow messed up, probably has

Wasn't sure if this belonged in the PC issues forum or here, but...

Alright, I recently have been playing a very heavily modified Fallout 3. I’m using both the Fallout Script Extender and Fallout Mod Manger. However, I’ve found that after my character falls unconscious from starting the Purifier, and the ending cutscence plays, the game starts playing “Base” music and begins loading (as it should, given I have Broken Steel). However, when it finishes loading, it crashes. So, Broken Steel isn’t working. But what’s stranger is that even if I uncheck Broken Steel in my list of mods, the same thing still happens (it still plays “Base” music and tries to load, only to crash, instead of showing the credits like the game should absent of Broken Steel). Any ideas?

Post a list of your mods (a load order report), and let us know if you had Broken Steel installed from the beginning of the game or added it at some point.

On reproducable crashes I
--uncheck ALL MODS except for the Bethesda 5.
If it STILL crashes, problems are indeed extreme, try an earlier save.

--If No crash then add half the mods (bear in mind relationships between the mods),
-- Add half of remaining mods, then half of that and keep going until the crash appears.

If it crashes after a mod batch add, uncheck half of the just added mods.
Keep unchecking mods until the game no longer crashes

Process of elimination usually finds the problem mod...

Bear in mind this is brute force approach and may or may not work for you.

Thanks guys.

Steamfax, I tried unchecking all the non-Bethesda mods. The same thing happened, though. I also tried loading from a slightly earlier save. It didn't work.

Have you tried taking out the BSMovieskip.esp? It seems suspicious given your issue.

Also, when you tried it without BS installed, did you use a save game from far enough back? BS alters more of the ending than the ending sequence itself, I believe.

I recall having similar issue with freeplay after MQ mod, at the end it was issue with some cinematic that weren't copied right. As BS changes the ending cinematic. I'll second what Showler is saying, try getting there with out that ESP. As well your BrokenSteel.esm and Anchorage.esm are in wrong order, it is very minor issue, but you never know...

Yeah, I tried unchecking BSMovieskip.esp.

Also, I never tried is with Broken Steel UNINSTALLED, merely unchecked. But the savegame I used wasn't that far back. It was the auto-save upon entering the rotunda of the Purifier. I guess I could try further back but...ugh...I'm feeling kind of sick of this game right now.

Also, I tried switching Anchorage and Broken Steel, but no luck.
