Broken Steel Strategy!

Post » Sun Aug 07, 2011 12:47 pm

I find that these three enemies in the Broken Steel DLC are very difficult to kill; Super Mutant Overlord, Feral Ghoul Reaver, and the Albino Radscorpions.

I have about 110+ hours into Fallout 3 with my main character, and I thought it would be fun to show my way of killing these bastards. Keep in mind you don't always have to play by these rules, I am just showing you my strategy. Since this is not direct and I am just sharing, it belongs in the general section.

EQUIPMENT: Gauss Rifle(Knocks the baddies down with a critical or shot to the leg about 90% of the time), Dart Gun(Cripples the legs in any shot to the body), Nuka Grenades(Best grenades in the game, requires a Nuka Cola Quantum, Turpentine, Abraxo Cleaner, and a Tin Can), Gatling Laser(Preferably Vengeance, my personal favorite), The Terrible Shotgun(Battering ram to just about anything close range), Fatman/MIRV(Blows anything up, simple as that), Bottlecap Mine(Super strong mine, requires 10 Bottlecaps, Lunchbox, Cherry Bomb, Sensor Module*)

ARMOR:
The best armor to use is just about any Power Armor. I use the Tribal Power Armor (Found in The Pitt by aquiring 100 Steel Ingots). Seriously, anything with a good resistence to damage is helpful.

MEDS/AID: The best thing to use is generally Psycho or Med-X. I like to use both of these, and pop some Buffout if I have serious trouble. All up to you.

ENEMY LOCATIONS: The following locations are from what I remember and have seen. Albino Radscorpions are mostly seen in the northern areas and around girdershade, plus a few other southern locations. It seems like they resort to sticking around the edges of the wasteland, less than the middle.
Super Mutant Overlords are in DC, and a few other Super Mutant hideouts(these usually have captives and other Super Mutants to aid them).
Feral Ghoul Reavers are in Point Lookout especially, in underground Metro Tunnels, Dunwich Building, Red Racer Factory, etc.

STRATEGIES:Super Mutant Overlord: These guys are equipped with either a Gatling Laser, Super Sledge, Tri-Beam Laser Rifle, and I've seen a couple with a Missle Launcher. What I do is first try to snipe them from a distance. Either this, or knock them down with a Gauss Rifle. If they have a super sledge, use the Dart Gun to cripple their legs. After they are knocked down/crippled switch to something like a Gatling Laser and spray them down. If you have a companion (such as Dogmeat :goodjob:) then run up to the distracted mutie and blast him with your Combat Shotgun. If you encounter groups, use the Nuka Grenades or the Fatman/MIRV. *Note - You should shoot the weapon out of their hands with the Gauss Rifle if they give you too much trouble!

Feral Ghoul Reaver: Cripple the legs! First thing you should do is whip out the Dart Gun and tag them. The best thing you can do is stay decently close with a shotgun in hand(to make sure he does not throw Radioactive Gore at you) and keep a distance where he will not hit you. Stay between these attacks! Focus on this, and you will do fine.

Albino Radscorpion: These things are sponges. First, cripple the legs with the Dart Gun and knock them down with a Gauss Rifle. The best thing you can do is soften them up with a Nuka Grenade or Mini Nuke(If that doesn't kill them!). After it's softened up a bit, spray them down with either the Combat Shotgun or Gatling Laser. Make sure to use that Gauss Rifle to knock them down!

Hope you enjoyed the way I take care of bidniz. Thanks.

Help! So many bright colors in the text. :shocking:

But serious: Some good tactics there, but the best way to deal with a Reaver is the Ghoul Mask.
For the Overlord I take cover and spam Plasma Bolts with my A3-21 Rifle.
And for the scorpion --> :bolt:

Huebi, your avatar confuses me.

On topic, I just make sure I got power armor and a powerful automatic weapon in my inventory. Because I've capped my own level at 20, I rarely encounter BS enemies, but when I do they go down rather easily.

It's my roleplay idea. I tried to find a good reason, that made it possible to like the Enclave and the Brotherhood at the same time. :teehee: It might take some deeper thoughts, but I'm proud of it.

I was almost ready to smash you down, but it actually sounds like a good RP idea. Maybe a bit exaggerating (y'know, not only captains and generals are heroes - usually the greatest deeds are found lowest of the ranks), but sounds like a good theory.

All 3 are pretty dangerous in certain areas.

Albino- Though it has the most hp it is usually seen from very far away. What I did with these was snipe them with a telsa canon, then when they started getting into range, I switched to a gattling laser canon.

Reavers- Outide they can be easily delt with useing a gattling laser canon. Inside they are much harder, and many times I found myself busting out the alien blaster.

Overloards- They are the hardest IMO, because the use ranged weapons most of the time. The tri beam is especially deadly. With them I would work on them until I had half life left, then go to cover and use health boosters. Then work on them some more. If you use "normal" weapons againt one with a tri beam you will die if you don t use health boosters. You can not win a pure hp battle vs one 90% of the time.

The Feral is the toughest for me. Most of the time they are found in underground cramped areas with lots of other ferals. They are very fast, hit hard, have a rad ranged attack, and take lots of damage. As written before, the ghoul mask is the best defense, but if you don't have it, have something that deals lots of damage and fast. I'm running FWE (amongst some other mods) and have the HK CAW. It works very well for such situations. For Vanilla, it is the Alien Blaster or Combat Shotgun after I have thrown a nuka grenade or two.

Over lords are next, as they like to hang back and shoot they aren't as bad. You can hide from them and have time to lead them into traps.

Albinos you can see coming from a long distance most of the time.
