Brotherhood of Steel Jack-o-Lantern

Long-time lurker, first time poster (in this part of the forum, anyway).

For fun, I decided to take on a Fallout theme with my Halloween stuff this year. Unfortunately, my costume's kind of... not working. I'll get it figured out by next year... or next week.

Anyway, I thought it would be fun to do a theme Jack-O-Lantern, so I decided to take on the Brotherhood of Steel's iconic sign. If you feel like skipping the clumsy and rambling description of the series, you can see the finished product at the end.

Looks Cool! Are you experienced in making these lanterns?

Actually, no. I've seen the stuff by real experts, and this comes nowhere close. (Look up Indian Chief Pumpkin - now THAT'S experienced carving!)

I've been playing around with the small silver knife you see me pre-carving the gears with for years. My preferred medium has always been paper, but at the pumpkin patch up the street they were trying to sell patterns in a book with witches, haunted houses, etc. I kinda shook my head for a second, and said "I can make a better pattern than that".

Even though I ended up chosing to use a printout online, part of it was knowing how to use the negative space. (What to carve out and what not to.) That's what I like to think I've been working with for a long time.

I do have another pumpkin left to carve. I was thinking about a power armor helmet, but I haven't decided which one.
